Irv Gotti snagged BMI’s Pop Songwriter of the
Year award at BMI’s 51st Annual BMI Pop Awards.
Gotti placed five titles on BMI’s Most Performed
List of the 50, which garnered him the award.
"Always On Time (Ja Rule featuring Ashanti),
"I’m Real" (Ja Rule with Jennifer Lopez) "Livin it Up" (Ja
Rule featuring Case) and "What’s Luv?" (Fat Joe featuring Ashanti)
did the trick for the executive, who shared the Songwriter of the Year title
last year at the 2002 BMI Urban Awards.
Meanwhile, Murder Inc. is staying busy. The company’s
R&B diva Ashanti, will grace the cover of the Source magazine’s next issue,
marking the second time a female R&B singer made the cover. The only other
artist to pull of such a feat was Mary J. Blige.
"This is really so big," Gotti told
AllHipHop.com. "The first time any R&B artist did this was Mary J.
Blige. Ten years later we got the reigning princess of R&B up on that sh*t!"
Gotti was equally excited about the radio airplay
Ashanti’s single, "Rock Wit U," the lead off single from her sophomore
set, Chapter 2.
"This song is getting the most love from
radio than any other single I have produced," Gotti continued. "The
remix is already done. Cadillac Tah is featured on that."
Ashanti’s Chapter 2 is scheduled for a
July 1st release date, while Cadillac Tah’s album Pov City Hustler hits
stores June 3.
