(AllHipHop News) Jay-Z is reportedly sacrificing up to $1 million a week by refusing to allow his new album to stream on the Spotify music service.
The rap mogul released 4:44 exclusively on his Tidal streaming app last month, before making it available on other services, including Apple Music, but the album remains absent from Spotify.
Industry insiders tell Billboard.com the decision could be costing Jay-Z hundreds of thousands of dollars, based on payments collected by other top artists.
The hip-hop superstar, who pulled his back catalog from Spotify earlier this year, has yet to comment on the report, but other musicians, like Taylor Swift, have previously spoken out against the company in a disagreement over royalty fees.
Swift removed her music from the site in 2014, but recently allowed her tunes to be streamed online again last month.
It’s unlikely the new dad will be concerned about missing out on the Spotify funds – earlier this year, Beyonce’s husband placed second on Forbes magazine’s World’s Richest Rappers list with an estimated net worth of $810 million, $10 million behind pal Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs.
Jay-Z and Beyonce, who recently welcomed twins, were also declared a billion-dollar supercouple in May, with a combined wealth of $1.16 billion, according to Forbes experts.
