Seasoned music executive Mark Pitts was named President of Urban Music of the Zomba Label Group, ZLG CEO Barry Weiss announced today (Feb. 26).
Pitts launched his career in 1992 with Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Bad Boy Records.
He managed Notorious B.I.G. and as an A&R executive, Pitts has worked with artists like Usher, Chris Brown, Ciara, Kelis, Anthony Hamilton and others.
Pitts will identify new talent for ZLG and develop the artistic direction for the label’s urban roster.
“As much as I’ve been blessed with success, I am still a student of the game, learning every day,” Pitts said. “This new position will truly allow me to grow and further bring my vision to Zomba’s urban acts in all areas.”
ZLG consists of labels like Jive, LaFace, So So Def, Verity, Volcano, Fo Yo Soul and Gospocentric.
Artists signed to the label group include Outkast, R. Kelly, Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, T-Pain, Youngbloodz, Britney Spears and others.
“I’ve had the pleasure of working closely with Mark for the past three years,” ZLG CEO Barry Weiss said. “His ear for talent combined with his business sense is a rare combination which puts ZLG at a great advantage. I look forward to his continuing contributions to Zomba’s success.”
Pitts is currently working on the follow up to Usher’s#### album Confessions, as well as Chris Brown’s sophomore album.
