Nas’ troubles with the Internal Revenue Service have reached a
new level, with the Queensbridge rapper’s debt amounting to more than $3
million.
According to court documents, Nas owes $3,365,671.26, an
increase from the $2,584,206.31 lien IRS filed last week against him.
Nas isn’t the only rapper to encounter trouble with the IRS.
Just last week, the organization revealed Ruff Ryders affiliate Eve’s
tax delinquency with state and federal taxes, which amounted to more
than $357,000.
On Jan. 19, the organization filed a $598,309 lien
against fellow rhymesayer Snoop Dogg and his wife with the Los Angeles
County Recorder of Deeds, the Detroit News reports. Other entertainers
sought by the IRS include singer El DeBarge, who owes $354,000 in
delinquent federal taxes and Boyz N the Hood actor
Morris Chestnut, whose delinquent federal tax debt comes to more than
$215,800.
In addition to tax woes, Nas is working
to resurrect his relationship with singer Kelis. Sources
for TMZ.com state the rapper has voiced his
desire to reunite with ex-wife via a series of e-mails that detail where
the pair can meet face to face.
The revelation is the latest development in the continuing saga
surrounding the former couple. Last week, a judge ordered Nas to pay
$200,000 in back child and spousal support to Kelis. The couple, who has
one son, was married four years before Kelis filed for divorce in 2009.
TMZ sources state that Nas is unaware of the consequences for
not paying child support, which could result in jail time. The rapper
recently made $50,000 for a performance during the Sundance Film
Festival, but according to the sources, spent the money before leaving
the festival.
Despite Nas’ attempt at reconciliation, Kelis is reportedly
adamant about divorcing the rap star as she enters a relationship with a
new boyfriend.
