Nelly
will debut has acting skills in a new flick, titled Snipes. He
will play a Hip-Hop artist who is kidnapped on the eve of his
debut album release. The movie, which has a budget of less than
$10 Million is the first release from Ruffnation Films, which
is headed by former Co-CEO of Ruffhouse Records, Chris Schwartz.
Ruffhouse had such
powerhouse acts as Cypress Hill, Kris Kross, The Fugee’s and Nas
at one point. Schwartz left the company after a falling out with
the other head of the label, Joe Nicolo who has since formed the
RCA distributed Judgement Records. Video director Rich Murray
will make his feature directing debut on the movie. Schwartz is
also behind the Warner Bros. distributed Ruffnation, with former
Contract Records CEO and long time lawyer Kevon Glickman, and
the Rufflife label, which was distributed by the now defunct Atomicpop
label.
Snipes is scheduled
to begin shooting October 2nd, and will include cameo appearances
from Schooly D, the first artists Schwartz Managed under his Schoolhouse
Management company, as well as Fat Joe and Kool Moe Dee. Ruffnation
is gearing up for the much anticpated release of Muggs: Soul Assassins
Volume 2, which will be in stores October 3, 2000.
