The New York Chapter
of One Hundred Black Men Inc. is planning their 27th Annual Benefit Gala on Feb.
22, which will honor rapper Kanye West, NFL player Curtis Martin, The Hon. Charles
Rangel, gospel singer Kirk Franklin and others. One
Hundred Black Men, which was founded in 1963, has over 106 chapters worldwide
with more than 10,000 members. The
organization provides opportunities for educational and economic empowerment,
while improving prospects for healthy living, strong families and communities
amongst African-Americans.The
evening will be hosted by journalists/news anchors Lori Stokes and Maurice Dubois.
The night will be highlighted with a performance by renowned R&B vocalist
Howard Hewitt. Rapper
West will be honored as an Advocate for Social Change, while Martin, of the New
York Jets will receive the Sportsmanship Award. Rangel,
who is the Ranking Member of the Committee on Ways and Means, will be honored
with the Distinguished Service Award. Franklin will receive the Artistic Achievement
Award.Others
being honored during the evening include the Rev. Calvin O. Butts III (Religious
Leader Award), Newark, NJ Mayor Cory Booker (Trailblazer Award) and executive
Ian Moore (Corporate Appreciation Award).For
