Queens rapper YP DA YG was shot and killed in a Jamaica, Queens home during a late-night family argument that ended in a murder-suicide tied to a real estate dispute.
The 37-year-old rapper, born Prince McFarlane, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head inside a residence on 116th Road near 155th Street just before midnight on Friday, October 3, according to the NYPD.
McFarlane’s 41-year-old nephew reportedly turned the gun on himself after the fatal shooting. He was taken to Jamaica Hospital but died from his injuries. A firearm was recovered at the scene.
Relatives told the New York Daily News the deadly encounter stemmed from an argument over the sale of the family’s home, which had recently been put on the market for approximately $600,000.
The uncle, who wished to remain anonymous, said the shooter may have stayed in the home on 116th Road near 155th Street with his deceased cousin’s body for several hours before taking his own life in an upstairs hallway. The uncle, who lives in the basement, discovered the younger man’s body around 11:45 P.M. on Friday.
McFarlane had built a name in the local Queens trap music circuit under the moniker YP DA YG.
His presence on social media included photos alongside 50 Cent, Nicki Minaj and other New York rappers, and tributes poured in after news of his death spread.
