For brothers Ahmad and Kamal Givens, better known as “Real” and “Chance” respectively, their decision about what to do with their lives once their popular VH1 reality show comes to an end was far from difficult.
As the Real Chance of Love series finale approaches, the two have already returned to their first love: making music, they told AllHipHop.com during a recent interview.
Real, Chance and their younger brother Mickey, who appeared on the show’s second episode, have been developing their pop-rock infused rap style since they were children.
They are moving forward with their first major release as The Stallionaires.
“It will be [out] in 09, there’s no specific date yet,” oldest brother Real told AllHipHop.com about untitled album. “Right now we’re pushing two singles, ‘Summer Love Child’ and ‘Does She Love Me,’ [which] was the original single. But ‘Summer Love Child’ is getting a lot of attention and press, so we’re pushing both.”
Prior to joining the cast of the original Flavor of Love spin-off I Love New York, The Stallionaires had started production on a scripted-reality show similar to MTV’s The Hills, in hopes of expanding their reach as artists.
Their memorable appearance as suitors in season two of I Love New York helped open doors for the reality stars/rappers.
“It’s much easier because everyone who wants to do the music thing wants to do the TV thing now too,” Chance told AllHipHop.com.
“The problem was always that our music, even now, don’t sound like a lot of music out there,” Real elaborated. “And the problem was we did that kind of music way back then and the record companies didn’t know how to market that kind of music. [But] we said, ‘The hell with y’all. We’re gonna sound the way we want to sound.’”
Their tenacity seems to have paid off. The lead single “Does She Love Me,” which also doubles as the show’s theme song has garnered over 750,000 plays on MySpace.
The Cisco Adler-produced “Summer Love Child” has been heard close to 1.5 million times. Both songs are available on iTunes and have started to gain international radio play.
With the album nearly complete, Real and Chance are turning their attention to a new reality show which will feature the exploits of younger brother Mickey, expected to debut shortly after the release of the album.
They are also planning their first promotional tour, which will offer fans a much grander experience than the sample performance featured on Real Chance of Love.
The group will make an appearance in Philadelphia December 20 during The 1st Annual “Clash of the Arts” Gala in the Ormandy Ballroom at the Doubletree Hotel in Philadelphia.
The event showcases the latest fashions and also features appearances ranging from dance choreographer Darrin Henson (“Darrin’s Dance Grooves”) to “Phresh Select” and “Shhh” from MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew.
“We’re entertainers,” explained Real. “We’re gonna give you a doggone show, like how Miley Cyrus and Justin Timberlake and all these other [acts]. It’s not gonna be some little production.”
The Real Chance of Love series finale will air on January 5, with a reunion special to follow a week later.
