Saweetie has revealed why she has yet to drop an album. The 30-year-old rapper/singer has opened up about why she is still waiting to release her debut.
“I just feel like nobody was caring about my music,” Saweetie told Allure in a new interview. “To me, music is sacred. It’s coming from your spirit. You can’t just go finish an album in a week. That’s why it’s taking me so long. That’s why I haven’t dropped an album yet.”
Saweetie’s debut album, which was previously titled Pretty B**ch Music, has been delayed yearly since 2021 because she felt it needed more time to be ready.
The “My Type” hitmaker then explained that when she released music in the past, she felt like she was “constantly” being watched and criticized.
“I don’t mean to dampen the mood,” she told the publication. “But this is, realistically, how my career has been. We were constantly criticized for every drop. I was just very insecure. I’m a confident woman, but I was a very insecure artist.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Saweetie admitted that she is also critical of her own music.
“As an artist, the frequency changes. The music I created up until now, in three months I could listen to it and I could be like, ‘I’m not that girl anymore,'” she said.
Saweetie released her first major label debut EP, titled “High Maintenance,” in March 2018. Her latest EP “The Single Life” only sold 3,000 copies in its first week.
