Hip-Hop mogul Russell
Simmons and his wife Kimora are bringing some style to the Sony PSP portable gaming
system this Christmas.
Simmons’ venture with M. Fabrikant & Sons – The Simmons
Jewelry Company – is producing a $35,000 case for the popular
gaming system.
The Baby Phat by Kimora Lee Simmons is made out of a pound of
gold, alligator skin and yellow and black diamonds.
“Kimora and I are invested in jewelry with M. Fabrikant
& Sons, the #1 jeweler in America. We have made lots of interesting fun
stuff,” Simmons told AllHipHop.com. “Much of the profits will go
back to Africa.”
Simmons said he was also looking to advise the Debeers Company,
the largest supplier of rough diamonds in the world.
“I’m pushing for factories and schools in Africa
so people can make their own jewelry and learn how to export them,” Simmons
said.
The Simmons’ announced the formation of the jewelry company
in January of 2004 with
M. Fabrikant & Sons, one of the oldest and largest distributors of diamonds
and jewelry in the world.
"One of my main goals is to inspire African-Americans to
own equity in businesses that they influence around the world," Simmons
told AllHipHop.com in January of 2004.
Simmons said the
diamonds sold by The Simmons Jewelry Company are inspected to ensure they
are conflict free. A portion of the proceeds also benefit communities affected
by the diamond trade.
