Storied Howard University announced today (September 19) that Academy Award-nominated actor Terrance Howard will serve as ambassador and Grand Marshal of their 2008 Homecoming ceremony.
The October 18 Homecoming Parade is slated to be the largest in the school’s history, featuring 20 national bands for the 10th annual “Showcase of Bands” and prominent alumni such as Olympic bronze medalist David Oliver, and actors Brandon T. Jackson (“Tropic Thunder”) and Lance Gross (“House of Payne”).
AllHipHop.com representatives will also be on hand as sponsors of the parade.
Howard, who recently starred in the summer blockbuster Iron Man, is known in the Hip-Hop community for his roles in Crash, Four Brothers, Ray, Lackawanna Blues, and Get Rich or Die Tryin’.
He received an Oscar nod in 2006 for his star-turning role as Memphis pimp turned rapper DJay in Hustle & Flow.
The full Homecoming week spans from October 10-18, and will feature star-studded gospel and R&B concerts, a step show, and the school’s first celebrity basketball game focused on creating awareness of the nationwide AIDS epidemic inflicting minorities.
