Magazine

, America’s leading voice of independent

hip-hop, electronic dance music and DJ culture, will celebrate

it’s 10-year anniversary with it’s upcoming January/February

2001 issue (Issue #81, on stands January 2, 2001).

To commemorate the

occasion URB is planning a three-cover issue, each featuring an

artist that has represented the different musical tastes that

have been chronicled in the magazine throughout the years. Also,

URB will host a major event in Los Angeles sometime in January

2001 with smaller issue release parties to be held around the

country. Plus, URB Music, URB Magazine’s music label will

release a compilation CD themed on music coinciding with the 10-year

anniversary of the magazine in March 2001.

Founded by publisher, Raymond Leon

Roker, URB Magazine made its debut in Los Angeles on December

21, 1990. It has grown from a 24-page Southern California regional

free newspaper to an internationally distributed 164-plus-page

full-glossy monthly. Circulation nears 100,000 per issue and boasts

the longest life among underground music publications. The URB

banner also encompasses a marketing agency, the Rebel Organization

Inc., record label, URB Music, and web site, URB.com.

URB recently entered the world

of radio with URB Presents Essential Mix, bringing Pete Tong’s

BBC radio show, Essential Mix, to college radio across the country

with Roker serving as the show’s host.
