Mark Zuckerberg Donates $25 Million To Help Fight Ebola

Mark Zuckerberg has stepped up to provide monies to fight the Ebola epidemic. Def Jam Records Spotlighted For Fashion Influence

For Def Jam Record’s 30th anniversary, GQ has tipped their hat to the legendary hip hop label and recognized their role in converging hip hop with fashion. The men’s mag celebrated the founders of the label, Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons, and the artists who helped the label skyrocket to success, like Public Enemy and The Beastie Boys, for making fashion statements by simply being themselves.

The article reads:”Their cool came from their lack of anxiety about that fact. You could see it in how they presented themselves, how they dressed, in what was basically the detritus of New York City: big scruffed-up parkas, discarded military jackets, work boots, hooded sweatshirts. Worn in that unselfconscious way of people who have yet to see themselves in the mirror, let alone on the cover of a record. Like teenagers, which is what they were.”

Rubin was also featured in the piece as he gave his retrospective POV on Def Jam’s influence in fashion.

Rick Rubin On Russell Simmon’s Fashion:

“Russell’s uniform in those days was like what a substitute teacher wears—like, a tweed jacket with arm patches. He wore penny-loafer shoes. I think, at the time, he wanted to give off the air of, uh, professionalism.”

What Rick Rubin Run-DMC Did For Fashion:

“Run-DMC, I think, was the first group to establish what we called the B-boy style, more like what the kids in the audience were wearing than what the people onstage were wearing. The people onstage wanted to look more like Eddie Murphy, who wanted to look more like Michael Jackson.”

EXCLUSIVE: MICK Talks Curating “NBA Live 15” Soundtrack Featuring Jeezy, Bishop Nehru, Flatbush Zombies & More

(AllHipHop News) EA Sports tapped MICK to curate the soundtrack for the company’s NBA Live 15 video game. MICK and EA Sports spent the last year working closely together to select the songs for this year’s version.

“I’ve been friends with the EA team for a while now. We started off with parties, then mixtapes. It then progressed into music curating,” explains MICK. “Hip Hop culture and sports are cut from the same cloth. Every rapper wants to ball and every athlete wants to rap. This synergy has transcended from the actual art and sport into marketing, fashion and other lifestyle attributes, namely, gaming.”

The NBA Live 15 tracklist includes some of the buzzing Hip Hop artists on the cusp of major stardom. Fans will get to hear tracks by Bishop Nehru, Fashawn, Flatbush Zombies, G-Eazy, K Camp, and more “under the radar” performers. Veteran rappers Jeezy and Smif N Wessun made the final cut as well.

“It’s been something I have cared about my entire career. Lots of my early mixtapes – and now even in my live sets – I’ve been excited to expose new artists, producers and sounds,” says MICK about choosing underground performers for the project. “Every song was different. Some I just find. Some find me. Some people I trust have invited me to check out.  Sometimes, I’m just looking for a type of beat. A type of voice. They all happen different, but it’s all very organic.”

Besides organizing the tunes that will compliment the upcoming basketball game, MICK has also been investing in start-up tech companies. The entertainer/businessman is heavily involved in the lifestyle website localeur.com.

“We focus on cool things to do in various cities around the globe,” adds MICK.

NBA LIVE 15 is scheduled for release on October 28. Stream the MICK curated NBA Live 15 soundtrack below and check out the full tracklist at easports.com.

Charlamagne Tha God: Nas’ “Ether” Was Corny (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Radio personality Charlamagne Tha God is known for expressing his opinions no matter how much they may differ from the general consensus. An example of that variation from popular thought is his views on Nas’ classic song “Ether.”

[ALSO READ: Charlamagne Tha God Reveals Why Nicki Minaj Said She’s Never Coming On His Show Again]

Many Hip Hop fans and historians view the Stillmatic cut as the better diss track between the “Ether”/”Takeover” battle, and some people even refer to it as the greatest diss track of all time. According to Charlamagne, “Takeover” wins for him, because he feels Jay Z included true accounts in his song while Nas just used gay and camel jokes.

“Ether was a good record, don’t get me wrong, but it’s angry as f**k. He sounded so emotional, and it’s elementary bulls*t,” expressed Charlamagne during his Brilliant Idiots podcast with Andrew Schulz. “It’s the oldest jokes you use on somebody – being gay, having AIDS. It’s just corny to me. Jay Z’s ‘Takeover’ was actually facts.”

C Tha God is not the only high-profile person in the Hip Hop community that felt Jay was the victor in the lyrical match-up. Last year TDE emcee Schoolboy Q shared he believes the Roc Nation rapper won that round as well.

“Honestly, I think Jay Z won,” said Schoolboy. “I mean Nas is my favorite rapper, but Jay Z, he was pretty scandalous.”

While others are still debating the 2001 battle, Nas recently revealed that he has no interest to reflect back on those times when he and Jigga were going at it. He claims he does not even listen to “Ether” anymore, because the two New York legends have moved on from their issues.

“It’s just old,” Nas told Angie Martinez in a recent interview.
