EXCLUSIVE: Smoke DZA Talks Undertaker Losing At Wrestlemania, Favorite Knicks Moment + More (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Last night (May 7th), Smoke DZA and clouds of marijuana commandeered SOBs for the album release party of Smoke DZA’s Dream.Zone.Achieve. In an EXCLUSIVE interview with DZA following the show, the Kushed God himself spoke on the Undertaker’s undefeated streak, the one Knicks moment that had him, his father and others in his neighborhood sad and more.

DZA has been releasing free projects online since 2009’s Substance Abuse mixtape. While he released 2011’s Rolling Stoned and 2012’s Rugby Thompson for sale, the R.F.C. Music Group-released Dream.Zone.Achieve is a different landmark in his independent rap career:

This is actually my first I put out for sale on my own. Others I had help by other independent companies. But, this is the first time actually putting an album out under my own independent company.

Prior to releasing his debut album Dream.Zone.Achieve, DZA released the wrestling-inspired Ringside 2 EP. As an avid wrestling fan, DZA explains how the Undertaker’s undefeated streak at Wrestlemania ending last month was pretty emotionally devastating:

I was hurt. It was like watching your childhood pet get put to sleep. That’s the only best way I can put it. There were people crying.

DZA, a long time New York Knicks fan, claims that the controversial Larry Johnson four-point play in the 1999 NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs was his favorite Knicks moment. However, in his song “Ghost of Dipset”, DZA remarks he “broke hearts like when Ewing missed the finger roll”. According to DZA, Patrick Ewing missing the game-tying layup at the end of Game 7 for the 1995 Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Indiana Pacers was the most heart breaking Knicks moment and had a deep emotional affect on more people other than just himself in his family:

The most disappointing moment was Ewing missing the finger roll. I remember that as a child. It was painful for me, my dad and every Knicks fan in my neighborhood.

Hip Hop Rumors: Mariah Ready To Call It Quits?

Reports are starting to surface that Mariah Carey and husband Nick Cannon’s marriage is a little rocky, so rocky that Carey is looking to possibly call it quits.

Huffington Post is reporting:

“It is claimed Mariah, 44, is seriously considering divorcing from Nick, 33. “Mariah’d cut him loose right now. But she’s worried about him making a grab for a huge chunk of her $515 million fortune,” one source told America’s OK! magazine, with another insider noting her other half is also in misery.

“Nick feels burned that Mariah is ready to pull the plug. They have a pre-nup, but after Nick tells his side of the story Mariah will most likely settle with him financially and realize her once beautiful marriage has evaporated.” “Nick loves to goof on Mariah, but she hates it,” a source revealed. “She has spent decades cultivating an image of an iconic glamour-p###.”

It is claimed Mariah and Nick, who are parents to three-year-old fraternal twins Moroccan and Monroe, are so upset with each other, they didn’t even celebrate their sixth wedding anniversary last week. “Mariah threw a diva ft and started browbeating Nick about being an absentee, no-good husband. She gave him hell for being immature and accused him of fooling around with other chicks,” an insider said. “She told him to cancel whatever anniversary plans he’d made.” ”

Hmmmm we’ll have to keep an eye on this one…

Hip Hop Rumors: KimYe's Wedding Plans Held Up Due To Prenup

Kimmy Cakes and Ye are ready to head down the aisle in to marital bliss, but there’s one little issue holding the couple up, the prenup negotiations.

Sources tell TMZ, “the prenup won’t be signed until next week — probably Wednesday at the earliest. We’re told the marriage will NOT take place until both sign on the dotted line.”

TMZ also reports, “unlike Kim’s prenup with Kris Humphries, the current negotiations are friendly, there’s no fighting. We’re told there’s just a lot to work out, and it got complicated by the fact that Kanye recently changed management.”

These two have both been in some messy relationships, can’t blame them for wanting to protect themselves.

Richard Sherman: Donald Sterling Would Not Have Been Banned For Life If He Was In The NFL

(AllHipHop News) Yesterday (May 7th), Richard Sherman signed a four year contract extension with the Seattle Seahawks for $57 million with $40 million guaranteed.

During a recent interview with TIME magazine, the verbose Seahawks cornerback stated that the racist comments from Los Angeles Clippers’ owner Donald Sterling did not surprise him. According to Sherman, the racist comments about his post-game interview after the 2014 NFC Championship game helped him understand that “that America still had some progress to make. “

Sherman also stated that given the NFL’s acceptance of a team with name Redskins (derogatory term for Native Americans), he did not believe Sterling would be banned for life if he was an owner in the NFL:

No I don’t. Because we have an NFL team called the Redskins. I don’t think the NFL really is as concerned as they show. The NFL is more of a bottom line league. If it doesn’t affect their bottom line, they’re not as concerned.

Rich Homie Quan Denies Being Addicted To Lean And Drinking It Prior To Seizure Attacks

(AllHipHop News) Rich Homie Quan is not adverse to “turning up”, but that does not mean that aspect of his lifestyle is what contributed to his recent seizure attacks. Today (May 8th), Quan responds to allegations that he was on a “lean binge” prior to his recent seizure attacks.

A day after Quan was hospitalized and released for seizure attacks he sustained on a music video shoot with Problem, rumors circulated that Quan had consumed an immense amount of Lean prior to the attacks. In a recently released statement to AllHipHop.com, Quan categorically denies the allegations and reiterates his original stance that his excessive work schedule is the primary reason for his recent hospitalization:

I want to clear up two things, after being in 3 states in 3 days, up early having to shoot my video for “Walk Thru” and even sleeping in between scenes on top of filming in this humid Atlanta heat, I fainted and hit my head. It’s no secret that I do turn up, I don’t deny that but I’m not addicted to anything including drugs nor was I leaning at the shoot.

Rich Homie Quan is scheduled to perform with the rest of the XXL Freshman Class of 2014 on June 9th at Best Buy Theatre in New York City.

Check out the full statement below:

I just want to thank my fans and everyone who has called concerned about me,” he said. “I want to clear up two things, after being in 3 states in 3 days, up early having to shoot my video for ‘Walk Thru’ and even sleeping in between scenes on top of filming in this humid Atlanta heat, I fainted and hit my head. It’s no secret that I do turn up, I don’t deny that but I’m not addicted to anything including drugs nor was I leaning at the shoot. The media is gonna put fake stories out there but I just want to let my fans know that I’m good and recovering. The second thing is, I promised I will never stop going in and I mean that.

August Alsina Says He's An "Idiot" For Negative Trey Songz Comments, Speaks On 106 & Park Incident + More (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Last month, Def Jam artist August Alsina berated 106 & Park host Keisha Chante  after she asked him about his rumored beef with Trey Songz. In a recent interview, August explains why he reacted the way he did, how he was an idiot for his initial Trey Songz comments and more.

During his interview on Hot 97’s The Morning Show, Alsina explained why he had such a strong reaction to the host’s seemingly tame question:

If you put me in a position…that’s how I felt. I went back to BET yesterday and that’s exactly what I said. [Keisha] was like, ‘I didn’t mean to disrespect you’ and I was like, ‘Well it wasn’t my intention to disrespect you.’ Before this conversation, I felt how I felt and I spoke on how I felt and I spoke don’t take back nothing that I said.

During an interview with RAP-UP this past March, Alsina remarked that he was not cool with Trey Songz after the two were supposed to do a show together that was cancelled. At the time Alsina attributed his feud with Songz to him not being able to “deal with ni**as’ egos and attitudes ’cause I’m just a real ni**a.” However, less than two months later, Alsina regrets the comments:

I’m the idiot, because it’s like I said what I said thinking ‘maybe if I say this, these n*ggas won’t ask me about this no more’. But, in return it’s like ‘oh, everybody beefing.’ I never said that. With these interviews, they put up what they want to put up and not put up everything I said.

REVIEW: Iggy Azalea: The New Classic

Ever since she signed to Grand Hustle in 2012, Iggy Azalea has been a name to look out for in hip hop, but with songs like her singles “Fancy” and “Work”, Iggy is slowly moving away from hip hop, and crossing into pop culture a bit more. Does Iggy have the rap skills to be respected? Her album The New Classic answers this question. The New Classic is Iggy Azalea’s debut album, and like with many debuts, there are a few  faults. Iggy’s album is not a terrible album, however there are some aspects that seem to throw listeners off when listening to the album as a whole.

Production: The production is what shines bright on The New Classic. Most of the album was produced by The Invisible Men and The Arcade, but this small number of producers do a good job of providing a diverse array of sound ranging from southern hip hop to EDM. “Fancy” even comes off as a beat made from star producer, DJ Mustard. The New Classic’s beat selection stands on the line between hip hop and pop music, and doesn’t tries to hard to step over any of these boundaries.

Lyrics: Iggy doesn’t have the best lyrical talent, meaning that she What makes this possible is Iggy Azalea’s flow. Azalea specializes in fitting her rhymes perfectly with the beats, and this detail is small, yet makes a huge impact when listening to The New Classic. One of the best songs to illustrate this is “Don’t Need Ya’ll”, Azalea switches up between a quickly flying through her rhymes, and slowing down at the drop of dime. Iggy Azalea is a solid rapper with a good flow.

Content: This is where The New Classic is flawed. Even though the album is listenable, it lacks an identity for Iggy Azalea. Azalea has the production and the flow skills to make a solid product, but there wasn’t any depth. Azalea does provide a serious track on The New Classic, however, instead of feeling like her heart was truly being heard through the microphone, it felt more like an inspirational song you would hear off of Never Back Down. The New Classic is an album that you could bump for maybe a month or so, but there are only a few tracks that would keep a strong impression.

All in All, The New Classic has some positive factors to make it a solid debut album from Iggy Azalea, but there wasn’t anything that made her album a complete standout. Sometimes greatness develops from an artists growth, instead of greatness right off the back. Iggy has the tools to become a dope artist, but she needs to find the depth to expand in the future.

Donald Sterling: "It Breaks My Heart" That Magic Johnson Did Not Defend Me [AUDIO]

(AllHipHop News) Donald Sterling might need to either discontinue his phone plan or pick new friends. Today (May 8th),  the Los Angeles Clippers’ owner Donald Sterling exclaims that he is not a racist and is shocked at Magic Johnson’s treatment of him during this ordeal in a privately recorded phone conversation.

In the phone conversation obtained by TMZ, Sterling remarks that he is not a racist. Using his history as class president of Theodore Roosevelt High School back in 1950’s as  evidence of his admiration from Black and Hispanic people:

I grew up in East L.A. East L.A., you die to get out of there. I got out of East L.A., I was the president of the High School there. I’m a Jew. 50% of the people there were Black and 40% were Hispanic. You ever been to Boyle Heights? So, I mean, people must have a good feeling for me.

One of the people Sterling singled out in his phone conversation with his ex-girlfriend V. Stiviano was Magic Johnson. According to Sterling, he was heartbroken that Johnson did not, at the very least, encourage the public to give Sterling due process in the court of public opinion:

It breaks my heart that Magic Johnson, a guy that I respect so much, wouldn’t stand up and say ‘well, let’s get the facts.

Beyoncé Pays Homage to Aaliyah + Releases What Is Pretty Campaign Video

Beyoncé paid homage to the late R&B icon Aaliyah on her Instagram recently. Beyonce rocked a pair of chic black shades and a Revolution Riche sweater with the “One in a Million” singer’s face on it. The retro ‘90s photo featured on the sweater was taken from Aaliyah’s Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number era. The Aaliyah sweatshirts were made earlier this year on Aaliyah’s birthday; only 50 of them were made. Aaliyah and Beyonce have both been credited as two of the most successful female R&B artists of the past 25 years and in R&B history.

To celebrate her “Pretty Hurts” single, Beyoncé also released a video for her What Is Pretty campaign, that features fan submissions explaining their definition of pretty. Check it out below!
