Birdman: Tha Carter V Will Be Released Before Nicki Minaj’s New Album

(AllHipHop News) Maybe this was the news that Lil Wayne’s manager Cortez Bryant was speaking on. A week after Bryant denied that Tha Carter V will be released on May 5th, the Cash Money Records head honcho Birdman gives a little more clarity.

While discussing Nicki Minaj’s career with Billboard, Birdman stated that some of Young Money will appear on Nicki Minaj’s new album that has no release date as-of-yet. While there is no firm release date for Nicki or Wayne’s album, Birdman assures that Tha Carter V will arrive before Minaj’s third album, The Pinkprint:

This album is going to have a little bit of everything but more rap. I am sure some of the team will be on it. She’s still doing her thing, then getting features on it. She’s definitely coming this year. She hasn’t picked a date yet. What she did for Young Money is totally different then what she’s doing for her album. She’s more girly-er. ‘Tha Carter V’ will definitely come before Nicki’s [album].

The release date for Nicki’s new album may never be released until the day the album comes out, according to the rap superstar. Back in February, Nicki Minaj informed Angie Martinez on The Angie Martinez Show that “The Pink Print is not going to have a release date. You’ll never know when it’s coming until it just comes.” However, Minaj did specify that her album release will not be identical to Beyonce’s, but similar:

Not all the way. I won’t set a release date until the album is really done and until I’ve lived with it for a long time… I’m not going to pull a B, I’m just going to chill for a second and see how it goes.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Could Shonda Rhimes Kill Columbus Short Off Scandal?

People don’t remember but Columbus Short kicks ASSSSSSSSS! This dude used to wreck shop, when he was a dancer or something. He used to stomp the yard. Well, now he stomps his enemies. On “Scandal,” he talks like Dark Knight and in real life he wrecks shop like Batman too.

The only thing is Shorty, so very good on the show, is allegedly so very bad in real life. He has spousal abuse incidents on deck and more recently he got in a fight at a bar.

Here is Columbus Short’s handiwork, according to TMZ:

0325_Columbus-Short-Victim_wm

ANYWAY, the latest is that his character might be killed off of “Scandal” if he’s not able to pull it together. Obviously, he is popular, but more obvious is that he’s got some anger issues. He allegedly knocked that dude out at an ENGAGEMENT PARTY!

When it comes to living that Gladiator Life in 2014….just saying….

Migos Speaks On The Highway Shooting For The First Time

(AllHipHop  News) Some people turn water into wine, others turn near death experiences into Twitter raps. Hours after it was reported that Migos were involved in a shooting on a Florida highway, the group responds.

Taking to their personal Twitter accounts, the group spoke on the shooting in rhyming fashion:

None of the tweets reveals who was injured in the altercation even though reports state that someone in the vehicle with them was struck by the gunman.

Collegiate Athlete Recieved A- For An Illiterate 10-Sentence Essay On Rosa Parks

(AllHipHop News) Rosa Parks did not get arrested for this. A tutor at the University of North Carolina spoke on athletes taking fake classes and having falsified grades in order to retain eligibility to play.

In an expose from ESPN, Mary Willingham spoke on the scam of “paper classes” which were classes labeled as “independent studies” and did not require athletes to attend the classes and were given grades based on one or a few papers. Willingham spoke on the literacy level of these athletes at the University of North Carolina, explaining why they were encouraged to take “paper classes”:

Athletes couldn’t write a paper. They couldn’t write a paragraph. They couldn’t write a sentence. Some of these students could read at maybe a second- or third-grade level. But for an adult that is considered illiterate

The African American department held a number of those “paper classes”. In one instance, a collegiate athlete was given an A- for a paper on Rosa Parks that was laden with grammatical and spelling errors, only ran 10 sentences/146 words and was incomplete. Deunta Williams, a former defensive back at UNC from 2007-2010 spoke on how players cavalierly spoke about “paper classes”:

Just that it was an easy paper class. It was a paper class, you know you can chill. You can get help writing it. [If] you wanted to get an easy B. If you had a reading level of third grade and you took a lot of these classes, you passed, you graduated. Couldn’t be too hard.

Back in May of 2012, UNC had an internal probe conducted and revealed that 54 classes in the African American Studies department were either “aberrant” or “irregularly” taught from summer 2007 to summer 2011. However, an independent probe by  North Carolina Governor Jim Martin in 2012 revealed improprieties in the African American department dating back to Fall of 1997.

No Malice: Be Very Clear, I Am NOT Doing Another Clipse Album (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Most of the times you have to decipher what rappers say in interviews like you breaking down Morse Code, not with No Malice. In an interview with Rapzilla at this year’s SXSW, No Malice definitely denounced any rumors of his involvement in a future Clipse album,

Rumors of a new Clipse album resurfaced earlier this year when a link to an article about Pusha T being in the studio with The Neptunes was posted on Pusha T’s Facebook account with a picture of The Clipse together and a caption that read “It’s Coming”. Less than a week after the announcement, Pusha T informed DJ Heat that he did not confirm a Clipse reunion album but did hint that the duo are “working”. No Malice does not state if him and Pusha T are actually working but does vehemently deny that they are working on an album together:

People keep asking me about this Clipse album.  I’ve been very clear. Ive’ been very consistent from the beginning. I don’t know why I have to keep answering this question, but I don’t do that music anymore. I don’t know if people want me to keep repeating my past life. What I would like to think is that my audience that grew up WITH me are still growing up. I can’t cater to every generation that comes under. It’s like repeating the third grade over and over and over again. No I’m somewhere else now. No, I am not doing another another Clipse album. Be very clear.

Dave Chappelle To Headline His 1st Ever Show At Radio City Music Hall In June

(AllHipHop News) Dave Chapelle is coming back to New York City. Last night (March 27th), LiveNation sent out a press release stating that Dave Chapelle will perform at Radio City Music Hall in June.

The show will be Chapelle’s first ever headlining show at Radio City Music Hall. Tickets go on sale to the general public next Friday (April 4th) at 10 A.M. on ticketmaster.com. Prices for the tickets will range between $59-79.

American Express® Card Members can purchase tickets before the general public beginning Tuesday, April 1 at 10 a.m.through Thursday, April 3 at 10 p.m.

This may be Chapelle’s first headlining show at Radio City Music Hall but he has performed at the famed establishment. Back in May of 2006, he appeared as one of The Root’s surprise guests during Verizon Presents The Roots With Special Guests. The appearance occurred a month after telling Oprah on The Oprah Winfrey Show that he left The Chapelle Show due to fatigue, lack of creative control and illness as a reason for his decision. To the packed crowd at Radio City Music Hall back in May 2006, he told a different story:

I figured it out. This whole sh*t is run off a game. Nobody knows what the game is. I figured it out. I know the whole sh*t. You have to look for the clues when you dealing with Hollywood. You have to ask yourself the right question, because Hollywood thinks they’re slick. I’m serious, man. Ask yourself this: How many people live in India? 1.2 billion. So think about it: Do you think Hollywood, could’ve found an Indian to play Ghandi.

The film Chapelle may have been referencing was the 1982 film Ghandi which had British actor Ben Kingsley play the role of Mahatma Ghandi.

Authorities state the victim may be a Migos member or someone in their camp. The victim’s condition is unknown at the moment.

Russell Simmons Responds To Kid Cudi’s Comments About Hip Hop

(AllHipHop News) Cleveland artist Kid Cudi started a public conversation about the current state of Hip Hop after his recent appearance on the Arsenio Hall Show. The Satellite Flight creator suggested rap music focuses too much on materialism and misogyny.

“I think the braggadocio, money, cash, hoes thing needs to be deaded,” said Cudi. “I feel like that’s holding us back as a culture, as black people.”

One of Hip Hop’s original moguls shared his thoughts on Cudi’s statements. Russell Simmons stopped by Arsenio as well, and the Def Jam co-founder provided his take on where Hip Hop is at the moment.

“I think the artists are sharing with us some really inspiring things, some things about ourselves that we don’t want to face,” stated Simmons. “I’m not at all disturbed by where they’re going. In fact, I’m proud of what Hip Hop has become.”

Simmons also talks about the use of the word “n***a” and expresses his opinion about Kanye West.

“Kanye is so brilliant,” added Simmons. “Lots of what he says is truthful.”

50 Cent Talks About His Reebok Sneakers Outselling Jay Z’s

(AllHipHop News) The competition between Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Shawn “Jay Z” Carter goes all the way back to 50’s comedic jabs on “How To Rob” and Jay’s response on “It’s Hot.” Curtis addressed another point in the competitive history of the two New Yorkers during an interview with Revolt.

According to 50, his G-Unit Reebok sneakers outsold Jay Z’s S. Carter line by a large margin. The “Pilot” performer also claims that period created a nice windfall in profits for him as well.

“Some of the deals look alike, because you see more than one person doing a deal that seems similar, but the structure of the actual deal is more profitable for one guy than it is for the other guy,” said 50. “In reality, the G-Unit shoe outsold the Shawn Carter shoe 6 to 1. I made over $80 million during the RBK time period.”

50 goes on to borrow a line Jay made famous.

“If I’m lying. I’m flying,” said 50. “You know how they say ‘men lie, women lie, numbers don’t.'”

Chris Brown’s Lawyer Requests DC Assault Case Be Dropped

(AllHipHop News) Lawyers for Chris Brown have asked the judge in his pending assault trial in Washington, DC for the case to be dismissed.

TMZ reports Brown’s legal team filed a motion to the court accusing the prosecution of improperly using witnesses to get an unfair advantage.

Mark Geragos, Brown’s attorney, claims that prosecutors got an unfair trial run at witnesses during a grand jury proceeding. According to the website, Geragos believes that a grand jury was unnecessary because the charges had been reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor, and the only reason the prosecution convened a grand jury was to get a chance to test their witnesses under oath.

Brown is currently be held at the L.A. County jail after another judge revoked his probation. He is to remain in custody until April 23rd.

Aaron McGruder Releases Statement On Departure From “The Boondocks”

(AllHipHop News) Fans of the animated program The Boondocks were excited to find out the show was returning for a fourth season this year, but they were also puzzled when word got out that the series’ creator Aaron McGruder was not involved in the making of the latest installment.

[ALSO READ: Trailer For Season 4 Of “The Boondocks” Hits The Net]

McGruder addressed his departure from The Boondocks in a statement posted on the show’s Facebook page. He wrote:

As the world now knows, The Boondocks will be returning for a fourth season, but I will not be returning with it. I’d like to extend my gratitude to Sony and Adult Swim for three great seasons.

I created The Boondocks two decades ago in college, did the daily comic for six years, and was showrunner on the animated series for the first three seasons. The Boondocks pretty much represents my life’s work to this point. Huey, Riley, and Granddad are not just property to me. They are my fictional blood relatives. Nothing is more painful than to leave them behind.

To quote a great white man, “Hollywood is a business”. And to quote another great white man, “Don’t hold grudges”.

What has never been lost on me is the enormous responsibility that came with The Boondocks – particularly the television show and it’s relatively young audience. It was important to offend, but equally important to offend for the right reasons. For three seasons I personally navigated this show through the minefields of controversy. It was not perfect. And it definitely was not quick. But it was always done with a keen sense of duty, history, culture, and love. Anything less would have been simply unacceptable.

As for me, I’m finally putting a life of controversy and troublemaking behind me with my upcoming Adult Swim show, BLACK JESUS.

The Boondocks season four begins April 21 on Adult Swim.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Will Mase Be Booted From His Church?

I am shocked that they didn’t do this already, but Ma$e is supposedly in the hot seat with his church. The guy seems to be playing from both sides of the fence. Dude is STILL preaching. Now, she he kept on popping up at the various Hip-Hop events and freestyles. The church is reportedly fed up.

TMZ broke the story where the people of MBM (Mason Betha Ministries) are basically saying he’s in the studio more than in the church! YA THINK?

Here is some of Ma$e wise words in the other side of his life.

I’m not so certain these folks are going to kick their leader out of the church he founded. All they have to do is go to another church. Also, the report came out that Ma$e secretly filed for divorce from his wife…but withdrew earlier this year.

I’d love to go to Mase church. I think I’d do just like this:

John Singleton Says He Left The Country For A Month After Tupac Died + More (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Tupac Shakur would have had a “limetime of films” with director John Singleton according to the acclaimed director. In an interview for The Hollywood Reporters’ Hollywood Masters, John Singleton spoke on the marginization of the Black culture in Black films as well as reveal that Tupac was meant to star in another legendary film of Singleton’s.

Singleton is set to direct the highly anticipated Tupac biopic and worked with the late rapper in the 1993 film Poetic Justice. According to the article, Tupac was meant to be in Singleton’s 2001 film Baby Boy as the director “planned to do a lifetime of films with him”. Tupac passed on September 13th, 1996, five years before the film was released and after Singleton found out of Shakur’s death he decided to make a drastic change:

The lady I was dating at the time told me that he had passed — he had been shot days before, but he [had] just passed. It set my life on a whole other trajectory. I went and left the country for about a month. I just couldn’t cope. … I felt, the danger ain’t sexy anymore. I got to change it up, not necessarily just as a filmmaker, but just as a person, and kind of grow up.

Singleton was also highly critical of how major movie studios are portraying the Black culture and the internal racism that exists:

[Studio executives say] ‘We’re going to take your stories but, you know what? You’re going to go starve over here and we’re not going to let you get a job.’ The so-called liberals that are in Hollywood now are not as good as their parents or ancestors. They feel that they’re not racist. They grew up with hip-hop, so [they] can’t be racist. ‘I like Jay Z, but that don’t mean I got to give you a job.’

Check out John Singleton’s full interview below:
