Heavy D's Mother Releases Statement On Rapper's Will And Daughter

(AllHipHop News) Eulahlee Myers, the mother of the late Heavy D, has responded to the speculation as to who will run the legendary rapper’s estate.

Floyd, Heavy’s brother, filed legal documents that would make him the admin for the estate, an assertion rooted in an old will document. The will does not include Heavy D’s daughter Xea in it.

Eulahlee Myers says that the two brothers worked together for many years and that that legal documents are not fully explanatory.

“This close relationship continued through Heavy’s career and through their adulthood,” Myers said in a statement from her representative Rachel Noerdlinger. “The petition filed in the LA Courts is to sell a condominium that they owned together since 1998. California law requires a probate for the sale of the Real Property to clear the title when someone passes. The probate process is a formality that is required by the State of California and nothing more.”

She also said that anything that Heavy does have, including royalty checks, will go to his daughter.

“All of Heavy’s assets are going to his 13-year-old daughter Xea, including his Social Security, Pension, and future royalties. All of Heavy’s personal belongings are in storage for his daughter until she gets a bit older,” Myers continued.

The decision for Floyd to manage the affairs is not a beef, as promoted in various media outlets, she said.

“The family all wanted Floyd as that person to represent Dwight’s estate. The family has a great relationship with Xea and her mother and are all working diligently to raise Xea the way Heavy intended,” the statement finishes. “The Myers family is a close knit family and always will be. Just the way Heavy liked it….”

Heavy D, real name Dwight Errington Myers, died November 11, 2011 of a pulmonary embolism.

Heavy D's Mom Addresses Reports Of Fight Over His Estate

(AllHipHop News) “The Myers family is a close-knit family and always will be. Just the way Heavy liked it,” says Eulahlee Myers, mother of Dwight Myers better known as legendary rapper Heavy D.

Earlier this week reports began to circulate that Heavy’s brother, Floyd Myers, was seeking to take control of the rapper’s entire estate, but according Eulahlee, all of Heavy’s assets are going to his surviving daughter Xea.

In a statement issued to AllHipHop.com, Ms. Meyer says that 13-year-old Xea will obtain all money collected from her father’s social security, pension, and future royalties. Xea will also get all of Heavy’s personal belongings that are currently being held in storage.

As far as Floyd’s involvement with the estate, Eulahlee explains that the petition filed in the Los Angeles court in his name was to sell a condominium that both Heavy and Floyd owned together. A California law requires that this action be taken by a probate when a property owner passes.

Ms. Myers goes on to say:

Heavy’s Estate needs to be managed. It cannot be self-managed or self-administered and it has to be Court approved. Open bills, unfinished business, taxes and day to day decisions including future plans for his daughter all need be done. This management needs someone who is capable, smart, honest and close to this family. The family all wanted Floyd as that person to represent Dwight’s estate. This decision was made by Heavy’s mother Eulahlee, Heavy’s father Cliff and Heavy’s sister Portia. The family has a great relationship with Xea and her mother and are “all” working diligently to raise Xea the way Heavy intended.

Heavy D passed away in November of 2011 at the age of 44.

Kanye West's Infatuation With Jesus

The views and opinions expressed herein are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of AllHipHop.com

We’re all made in the image of God. Kanye West wants to be God.

Hip Hop has always been about braggadocio antics and ego, but believe it or not there is a ceiling to what people will approve of. Kanye West has walked that fine line and is about to step over it.

But is this really anything new? Rappers have been referring to themselves as things that they aren’t since the beginning. When you lie, you have to continue to create new lies to support the original lie. In hip hop, the titles and bragging have escalated from the dopest emcee, ambassador of a region, gangster, baller, don, killer, king of a region, king of hip hop, best to ever do it, Makaveli (Tupac), Hov (Jay-Z), a God, Rakim (a Five Percenter) and now Yeezus.

I’m not really shocked. The infatuation with Jesus has been with Kanye since he hit the mainstream with “Jesus Walks.” In ’06 Kanye said that he should be in a revised version of the Bible. He didn’t just liken himself to Jesus on the 2006 Rolling Stone cover, he posed as him – crown of thorns and all. And most recently of course the rumor that his new album would be titled ‘I Am God’ and then ‘I Am A God’, to finally the recent rumor/leak the title will actually be Yeezus.

You can call it art or metaphorical and lie to yourself all you want but Kanye is no different than the countless men in the past that have worshipped and created idols, or lied to themselves by thinking that they are equal to God or God himself. He is the furthest progression in hip hop toward thinking and/or trying to get others to think that he is the greatest ever. That progression naturally moves to blasphemy by putting himself on the highest level possible – God.

I would wager that Kanye is just creating a buzz for his new album and testing the waters to see if the masses would accept it, and end up changing the album title.

DJs "Bend the Ten" On SMIRNOFF's MASTER OF THE MIX; JayCeeOh Creates Pre-Game Playlist

With only three episodes left, SMIRNOFF’s MASTER OF THE MIX is officially heating up as the remaining five DJs face their most demanding challenge yet: “bending the ten.”

After a brief meeting with MOTM judge Ben Maddahi at the top of the episode about long-term goals and branding, the “final five” were brought to Miami’s Club Frequency where show host Amanda Seales filled them in on their challenge for the week.

The “final five” DJs, which include Chris Karns, Incrediboi, JayCeeOh, Dynamix and Locszi, were tasked with incorporating ten songs, with varied BPM’s from multiple genres, into one cohesive set and play it for a packed house of club-goers and judges

After spending a few hours in the workshop crafting their sets, Kid Capri stopped by to help offer some wise words to the DJs. While the overall vibe of the DJs was uplifting, it was very clear that this would not be an easy challenge by any means.

DJ JayCeeOhDJ JayCeeOh, who has been one of the shows standout competitors this season, got things started during the showcase with Wilco’s “California Stars” that transitioned into Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust” and Method Man’s “Bring the Pain.” Throughout his transitions JayCeeOh showcased his scratching skills as he moved through records from Mister Magic, Dennis Ferrer and Jessie J.

Despite the judges mostly straight faces, JayCeeOh knew he had to go out with a bang and that’s just what he did. Over Muddy Waters’s “Hoochie Coochie Man” he belted out a few lines of his own: “My name is JayCeeOh and I got all the tricks, after this show, I’m going to be Master of the Mix!” The judges ate it up and even Kid Capri was on his feet. “That set deserves a round of applause,” said judge Mia Moretti. “I didn’t hear one mess up.” However Ben Maddahi felt a little differently. “Some of your best and worst work was in this set tonight,” he said. “But you saved your ass when you got on the mic with Muddy Waters” –ben

Chris Karns was up next and kicked things off with Melanie Fiona’s “4 a.m.” record which went into Cham’s “Ghetto Story” and Ciclon Cubano’s “Echale Salsa.” The highlight came when Karns broke down and chopped up the guitar from Wilco’s “California Stars” and re-created his own version of the Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling.” Moments after his set was complete Kid Capri exclaimed, “It’s not about feeling the music it’s about being a scientist with it and that’s what you did. It was dope!”

Master of the Mix JudgesDJ Locszi got right into the swing of things when he launched the iconic Hip-Hop record “Bring the Pain” and he continued to move seamlessly between the challenge’s other nine records. “You impressed me incredibly,” exclaimed judge Ben Maddahi. Kid Capri felt similarly when he said, “to be able to manipulate records and make them your own and get the crowd feeling you is what you did so congratulations.”

Up next was DJ Dynamix who began scratching through Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust” which he blended with Muddy Waters. Although the overall tone of his set began slow, he turned things up with some heavy drums once he got into tracks from Dennis Ferrer and Baby Cham. “I think some of the transitions were off and you lost the crowd at points in the set,” said Ben. ” But your scratches were clean and you made a great attempt.”

Incrediboi began his set with a blend of “Ghetto Story” and “Hoochie Coochie Man” and continued to scratch superbly through records from Queen, Grover Washington Jr. and Method Man. Incrediboi clearly met the challenge’s tasks better than any of the other DJs that night despite ending his set 12 seconds early yet his fate was ultimately in the hands of the judges. Luckily they felt a similar way. “You caught my attention off the top,” said Kid Capri. “That was a good set my G!”

Following the five sets the judges deliberated and discussed who they thought did the best and who did the worst. While there was no clear-cut loser there was certainly a unanimous winner in the form of DJ Locszi who prevailed at this week’s challenge and crafted a solid ten-song mix. Unfortunately for DJ Dynamix, his set just wasn’t up to par with that of his competition this week and he ultimately had his “record scratched.”

Next weeks challenge will find the “final four” battling it out with their own original remixes to a new single by Grammy Award-winning singer Estelle who will also be a guest judge.

Check back next week for another episode recap!

Hip-Hop Rumors: Chris Brown Crashes Car With Karrueche Tran In It!

Ahhhhh! Chris Brown. That dude keeps popping up in the rumors like he’s writing them. But this one is real, not even a rumor. Breezy crashed his car into somebody else’s car. I got to admit that when I first heard this and that he was with Karrueche Tran, Teddy Pendergrass popped up in my head. You have to be of a certain pedigree to understand that. Anyway, here are some of the pictures from the incident. It looks like Breezy was in the wrong. He doesn’t have a driver?

Open Letter From Chris Lighty's Mom Calling For Investigation Into Son's "Suicide" After New Info Surfaces

JESSICA BROOKS, Darrell “Chris” Lighty’s mother states:

Since my son’s death last August, my family and I have been searching for answers to what really happened to my son and to date, none of the explanations given make sense.

Our investigation has been stalled. Dr. Baden who was retained to do an independent autopsy has been unable to complete his task due to the lack of cooperation from the Medical Examiner’s office.
RIPChrislightyHe was brought in to help determine if Darrell’s death was homicide or suicide. It is almost a year later and we still don’t have the answer.

Today, I am begging, Mr. Johnson, the Bronx District Attorney,to make my son’s death a priority and work with our investigator to really look into the facts and circumstances leading up to his untimely death. We have uncovered real information that needs to be followed up on by those in authority.

I am attaching a link to an online petition that we will forward to the DA’s office asking them to start a formal investigation. I am asking everyone interested in justice to please sign it.

Thank you.

I implore the public as well as those who knew my son in the industry to please help us get justice for Chris Lighty. For additional information please contact Mr. Leemon at sc***@*******aw.com.

EXCLUSIVE UPDATE: Chris Lighty Death Investigation Continues; NYPD Accused Of Sloppy Investigating

(AllHipHop News) A private investigation into the death of music executive Chris Lighty has yielded several questionable results, according to representatives for rapper 50 Cent, who spearheaded the investigation.

According to the New York Medical Examiner, Chris Lighty committed suicide on August 30, 2012.

The mogul, who worked with artists like Sean “Diddy” Combs, Missy Elliott, Mariah Carey, Busta Rhymes, 50 Cent  and others, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head in his Bronx, New York apartment, after an alleged argument with his wife Veronica, whom he was in the process of divorcing.

But an investigation ensued, after 50 Cent , business associates and even Chris Lighty’s own mother, questioned the circumstances surrounding her son’s death.

In September of 2012, 50 Cent hired a private investigator to look into a variety of questionable circumstances relating to the powerful music executive’s death.

50 Cent eventually hired attorney Scott E Leemon of Leemon Law and private investigator Les Levine, to spearhead the investigation.

“After many months of investigation, led by Les Levine, I am in a position to provide the following update on the inquiry into Darrell ‘Chris’ Lighty’s death,” Scott Leemon Esq. told AllHipHop.com in a statement released today (May 21, 2013).

According to Scott Leemon, after hours of interviews and reviewing a number of documents, many questions are still unanswered.

“The main problem that we encountered was that the NYPD did not do a thorough investigation into Chris’ death,” Scott Leemon told AllHipHop.com. “In fact, what they did do was cursory, at best.”

According to the investigation, the gun recovered at the scene was part of a multi-gun purchase in North Carolina.

Chris lighty-veronica“The weapon was never reported stolen. Despite this fact, no follow was done with the information nor was the individual ever interviewed,” Scott Leemon revealed to AllHipHop.com. “More importantly, no DNA tests were done on the gun.”

According to the investigation, the Medical Examiner  never tested Chris Lighty’s hands or his clothes for gunshot residue.

“This is a simple test that can be done in hours. Luckily, records indicate that an actual sample was taken for this purpose, but it was never tested,” Leemon said.

According to Leemon, his team attempted to obtain the sample so it could be test, but the piece of evidence has sat dormant in the office of the Chief Medical Examiner .

“For months we have requested that the sample be tested and even offered to pay any costs relating to the testing, but our offer was ignored,” Scott Leemon told AllHipHop.com.

The investigation, which began in September 2012, is ongoing.

Scott Leemon said he is urging the Bronx County District Attorney to open a formal investigation into the death of Chris Lighty.

“I have met with a veteran prosecutor in the District Attorney’s Office to discuss this matter and hope for their continued cooperation in our search for the truth,” Scott Leemon told AllHipHop.com.

J. Cole: "I worked too hard to come a week later after Kanye West drops an amazing album."

(AllHipHop News)

Whether you view it as career suicide or an auspicious move by a precocious lyricist, you can not deny that J. Cole moving his sophomore album Born Sinner up to the same June 18th release date as Kanye West’s Yeezus album is an unexpected move.  Cole spoke with Billboard.com’s The Juice about the move and stated it was premeditated and that he knew about Kanye’s release date before the public:

I made one phone call to somebody that would know, just to make sure first. As soon as I got it confirmed, I was like, ‘Yo…’ The idea hit me instantly: ‘You got to go to that date,’

Cole is not oblivious to Kanye’s remarkable catalogue of music, deeming it “flawless” but attests that his competitive spirit (and matured understanding of promotion) fueled his desire to compete with the man who has released classic albums such as College Dropout and Late Registration:

“I’m not going to sit [here]… I worked too hard to come a week later after Kanye West drops an amazing album. It’d be like, ‘Oh and J.Cole dropped too, a week later.’ Nah. I’m going to go see him on that date. He’s the greatest. So it’s like, I’m a competitor by nature so it was instant, it wasn’t even a thought,”

In 2007, Kanye had a similar Soundscan battle with 50 Cent during the promotion of their albums Curtis and Graduation both releasing on September 11th 2007. Kanye won that battle quite handedly with Graduation’s 1st week sales clocking in at 957,000 and Curtis’ first week sales entering in at 691,000.

Check out J. Cole utterly completely outshine Kanye and Kanye’s only collaboration so far off his Friday Night Lights mixtape, entitled “Looking For Trouble” which also features Big Sean, Pusha T and Cyhi The Prince:

Eminem's Publishers Sue Facebook For Copyright Infringement, Ad Agency Responds By Attacking Dr. Dre

(AllHipHop News) Eminem has sold over 80 million records worldwide, his last album was the first album to attain a million digital downloads and he’s basically everywhere. That does not mean he is willing to let just anyone use his music. Eminem’s publishing company, Eight Mile Style LLC has filed a lawsuit against the social media giant Facebook for unlawfully using an Eminem song for its Facebook Home application advertisement.

[ALSO READ: Chris Rock and Eminem Pictured In The Studio, REWIND: Clip of 2002 Interview Together]

According to the suit, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg showcased an ad by  Portland, Oregon ad company Wieden + Kennedy entitled “Airplane” when he debuted the new Facebook Home app in April. In the advertisement was music uncannily similar to “Under The Influence”, Eminem’s collaboration with his D12 group from The Marshall Mathers LP.

The lawsuit claims that initial viewers of the unedited advertisement noticed the similarities and in perceived admission of guilt, Facebook released an altered version of the ad on their YouTube channel:

“The alteration of the Airplane advertisement was an admission that Facebook knew it had infringed on the Eminem/D12 Composition,” says the lawsuit.

Even  after Facebook altered the song for the ad, 8 Mile Style still released a cease and desist order because Facebook and Wieden + Kennedy did not have the “permission to alter the Eminem/D12 Composition” according to the lawsuit.

This is when things get heated.

The lawsuit alleges that Facebook and the ad agency’s response to the cease and desist order contained disparaging accusations aimed at someone virtually unrelated to the song, Dr. Dre:

Counsel falsely and wrongfully alleged that Andre Young, professionally known as Dr. Dre, composed ‘Under the Influence.’ Yet, a simple Internet search of the Eminem/D12 Composition would have revealed that “Under the Influence” was composed by Marshall Mathers, III, and members of D12, including Denaun Porter, Von Carlisle, Ondre Moore, R. Arthur Johnson, and DeShaun Holton. Dr. Dre likewise did not produce ‘Under the Influence.’

The suit continues to allege that the defendants made additional allegations regarding Dr. Dre, including accusing him of illegally sampling a Michael Jackson song for the Under The Influence beat he did not produce.

Eight Mile Style are suing for up to $150,000 per infringement.
