RECAP: Nas, Wale, and Q-Tip Bring the Heineken Bring Red Star Soul to Philly

The Heineken Red Star Soul Event hit Philadelphia with the bang of a Hip-Hop meteor by bringing some of the genre’s finest artists to the Electric Factory this past weekend.

Artists such as Wale, Nas, and Freeway were in the building. Not to mention, the legendary Q-Tip the Abstract was on the turntables, while comedian/actor Affion Crockett played host for the evening.

Leading the performances was MMG’s own Wale with his single “Lotus Flower Bomb”. Wale shocked the crowd bringing Philly’s own Freeway out for a impromptu performance of “What We Do”. Before exiting the stage, Wale had to perform his verse on “No Hands”.

Nas rocked the crowd with a set including songs “One Mic” and “NY State of Mind”, as well as some new cuts from his latest disc, Life Is Good. Along with his DJ Green Lantern, the rapper/actor/father/ connected with the crowd giving a mini concert in preparation of his return with Lauryn Hill on November 7.

The Heineken Red Star Access is an annual showcase of music’s hottest and freshest experiences nationwide. The tour kicked off in Chicago with performances by Nas and Pusha T, followed by stops in Atlanta with Trey Songz and Kendrick Lamar, D.C. with B.o.B., and New York City with Wiz Khalifa and French Montana.

Stay tuned for performances coming to your area, and watch some video of the Philly show below:

Jay-Z Gets Down With President Obama In New Presidential Advertising Campaign

(AllHipHop News) Jay-Z is officially campaigning on behalf of President Barack Obama, in a new advertising campaign.

The rapper offers up his opinion on President Obama in the “Power of Our Voice” campaign and what he represents to millions of Americans around the country.

“When the president got in office initially, what he represented to a nation of kids was hope,” Jay-Z said. “The hope of people all across the country who would look and see themselves, and know the possibilities.”

The “Power of Our Voice” advertisement also features Jay-Z expanding on the importance of voting.

“For so long, there was this voice that was silenced out there as far as exercising your right to vote,” the mogul said. “I think it was a voice that was silent because people had lost hope. They didn’t believe that their voice mattered or counted.”

The “Power of Our Voice” spot also features clips of Jay-Z’s Made in America festival performance, which included a special message from the POTUS.

“Jay-Z didn’t come from power or privilege,” President Barack Obama said of Jay-Z during the clip. “He got a head because he worked hard, learned from his mistakes and just plain refused to quit. That’s the promise of this country and all of us have the obligation to keep that promise alive.”

The 1:49 spot debuted on Barack Obama’s official YouTube channel yesterday (October 15).
