The Beverly Hills plastic surgeon that performed surgery on the mother of superstar rapper Kanye West, is under investigation by the State Medical Board of California and may lose his license due to DUI convictions.

Dr. Jan Adams performed a tummy tuck and breast reduction on Dr. Donda West, who died a short time later at Centinela Freeman Regional Medical Center in Marina Del Ray, where attempts to resuscitate her failed.

Dr. Adams is a “celebrity surgeon” and hosts a TV show titled Plastic Surgery: Before and After on the Discovery Channel.

He also authored the book Everything Women of Color Should Know About Cosmetic Surgery.

“I want to first express my deepest condolences to the West family at a very difficult time,” Dr. Adams told AccessHollywood. “As a medical doctor practicing in this field, I hold sacred the bond of confidentiality that exists between the patient and doctor. Out of respect of the West family and the absence of verifiable information, any comment without having first discussing that information with the family would be unprofessional.”

While the plastic surgeon has denied any wrong doing in Dr. West’s tragic death, a number of lawsuits against Dr. Adams surfaced on the Internet yesterday (November 13).

A woman claims that she received a tummy tuck and liposuction from Dr. Adams on June 27, resulting in her being rendered “sick, sore, lame and disabled.”

Another woman recently filed a malpractice lawsuit against Dr. Adams, claiming that she was not told of the lawsuits against him, which may have changed her decision to use Dr. Adams.

She claims that Dr. Adams botched a left breast capulectomy in August of 2005, causing her to have her implants removed.

Another woman claimed that Dr. Adams and other doctors botched a tummy tuck and that Dr. Adams made a “false assertion that he was a board certified plastic surgeon.

The Medical Board of California filed legal documents against Dr. Adams last April, seeking to have his medical license revoked, because he has been convicted of three DUI’s since 1994.

Dr. Adams has also over paid over $460,000 dollars in malpractice settlements since 2001.

Dr. Adams has also appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show as did Kanye and Dr. Donda West.

Winfrey has denied reports that she introduced Dr. West to Dr. Adams.

“Absolutely untrue. Oprah did not introduce Dr. West to Dr. Adams,” a representative for Winfrey said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the head of the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) issued a statement as well, reminding those considering cosmetic surgery to carefully select their surgeon.

Dr. Richard D’Amico heads up the ABPS, the world’s largest organization of board-certified plastic surgeons in the world, with over 6,000 members.

“It’s one thing to have training, but it’s another to have your competency tested. This is why board-certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) is so crucial,” said Dr. D’Amico. “As a patient, you should ask yourself, ‘Why wouldn’t this surgeon be board-certified in plastic surgery?’”
