The 2012 BET Hip-Hop Awards weekend has returned to the ATL, and it promises to be one of the biggest yet. The star-studded event brings tons of celebrities to “Black Hollywood,” for a weekend packed full of parties, culminating in the actual taping of the awards on Saturday at the Atlanta Civic Center.
AllHipHop.com loves Atlanta; it’s a party town with great weather. ATL is the hometown of a bunch of our favorite rappers, and they never fail to roll out the red carpet. Check out this list of some of our favorite places to visit in The A that promise to be “Turnt Up” this weekend!
Favorite Place to Watch the “Ghetto Ballet”
Magic City
241 Forsyth St. SW. ATL, 30303 @MagicCityATL
“The City” is a legendary club named dropped in rap songs and the testing ground for the latest hits.
Magic City will be the host of a few events this weekend, including a screening of the new film, Birds of a Feather, featuring Gucci Mane, Zaytoven, and more this Friday.
Favorite Place to See Thick Girls Shopping
Twelve24 Boutique
228 E. Ponce de Leon, Decatur @1224Boutique
A specialty shop specializing in clothes for curvy girls, Twelve24 is full of fly ensembles for real women. The store carries one-of-a-kind dresses, jeans, and accessories at great prices, and after only three months in business, is growing in popularity. Hey, we also love ‘em because they laced our Atlanta correspondent for the weekend.
Favorite Hip-Hop Hometown Hosts
@YoungJeezy @Tip @WakaFlockaBSM @2Chainz
Young Jeezy, T.I., Waka Flocka Flame, and 2 Chainz are all having events in their hometown for the weekend. Jeezy and Tip are definitely representing the hardest because they are both also celebrating their birthdays. Jeezy hosted an invitation-only black tie gala for his 35th, and T.I. is having a super-secret 32nd. Flocka rolled out the red carpet at his red-tie event, and 2 Chainz is performing at Compound.
Favorite BET Hip-Hop Awards Party Spot
Compound Nightclub
1008 Brady Ave NW, ATL 30318 @CompoundATL
Our vote for the best spot to see some of your favorite celebs this weekend goes to Compound Nightclub. One of the flyest clubs in the city, Compound always promises a great party, but for the BET Hip-Hop Awards, expect them to be all the way turnt. 2Chainz is performing on Friday night, and Diddy, Chris Brown, and Young Jeezy are taking over on Saturday night after the filming of the awards.
Favorite Place to Shop and Baller-Watch
Lenox Mall
3393 Peachtree Road NE., ATL, 30326
This upscale mall will see a lot of business this weekend, whether it’s folks shopping or stalking for celebrities. Lenox is a must-see for first-time tourists, and the mall will host a couple of events during BET Hip-Hop Awards weekend, including a few special events at The Microsoft Store.
Favorite Place to Break Bread
Frank Ski’s Restaurant & Lounge
2110 Peachtree Road NW, ATL 30309 @FrankSkisATL
Atlanta Hip-Hop heads can be a fickle crowd, but what better way to the heart than through the stomach? Our pick for the best spot to grab a meal and a couple of drinks is, undoubtedly, Frank Ski’s Restaurant & Lounge. Try the fish tacos during happy hour and a glass of Frank’s famous “Frozen Peach Ciroc.”
The BET Hip Hop Awards will be filmed on Saturday, September 29 at The Atlanta Civic Center; admittance is by ticket-only. The awards will air on BET on October 9 at 8PM.
