(AllHipHop News) MMG and Philly artist Meek Mill is giving back to his local community after recently being informed that his alma mater is set for closure this year.
While Meek won’t be hitting the road, he is putting up $10,000 for his alma mater high school, Strawberry Mansion High School, in addition to giving the high school basketball team his sponsored Puma basketball shoes.
Meek’s move to donate to the local schools comes after Superintendent William R. Hite Jr. announced that the school district was looking to close over 37 schools in the Philadelphia area, forcing kids to commute further distances and learn in larger classrooms.
While Hite Jr. expects the move to make Philly schools more competitive, safer and better run, Meek thinks the move will be bad for his local community, including his own school Strawberry Mansion set for closure.
“They about to close down 37 schools in Philly…. They gone have kids from different hoods going 2 schools in different hoods # problems,” Meek Mill said via his Twitter account @MeekMill. “37 schools being closed in Philly ….gone be the worst thing 2 happen 2. Philly!”
In whole 44 schools will undergo changes as approximately a dozen of them with be faced with grade changes, affecting roughly 17,000 kids.
This year the school district was forced to borrow $300 million to operate and is expect to face 1.1 billion dollar deficit if it does not make changes according to the
