Meek Mill Donating $10,000 to High School Alma Mater in Lieu of Philadelphia School Closures

(AllHipHop News) MMG and Philly artist Meek Mill is giving back to his local community after recently being informed that his alma mater is set for closure this year.

While Meek won’t be hitting the road, he is putting up $10,000 for his alma mater high school, Strawberry Mansion High School, in addition to giving the high school basketball team his sponsored Puma basketball shoes.

Meek’s move to donate to the local schools comes after Superintendent William R. Hite Jr. announced that the school district was looking to close over 37 schools in the Philadelphia area, forcing kids to commute further distances and learn in larger classrooms.

While Hite Jr. expects the move to make Philly schools more competitive, safer and better run, Meek thinks the move will be bad for his local community, including his own school Strawberry Mansion set for closure.

This year the school district was forced to borrow $300 million to operate and is expect to face 1.1 billion dollar deficit if it does not make changes according to the

[…] Seems like we love to hear and promoting bad and negative energy. Well with the little voice I have I’d rather change that. After the announcement of  37 school closures in philly. Meek agreed to battle him for 100k with the proceeds going to local. I applaud this as we all should. I think this is a genuine gesture coming from his heart. I’m not Meek’s biggest fan but I can respect him for this. via AHH […]
