Hip-Hop Rumors: Lord Jamar of Brand Nubian Calls Kanye West "Pioneer of Queer Rap"

Kanye West….oh boy. He’s just all up in the news these days. Well…here is the next one. Lord Jamar of the famed group Brand Nubian has released a scathing diss of Kanye, calling him the architect of QUEER RAP.

Well, what do we have here? The fact of the matter is, Kanye has pushed the envelope in fashion. But, more significantly, he’s influenced the kid rappers coming up in their decisions.

He spews with venom: “”Somebody mad at my hash tag/ Black man lookin’ half a f*g/With a blazer and vest, I’m just amazed at the mess/Pioneer of this queer sh*t is Kanye West/He introduced the skinny jeans to the rap scene/Then he wore a f***ing skirt on the video screen/Then he wore it again at a memorial/I can’t pretend that this s**t ain’t deplorable/I bet this n***a thinkin’ he lookingadorable/Your music’s good but your ego is horrible.”

Thoughts? Right or Wrong?

Before you diss/praise Lord Jamar…remember this?

Just be careful, LJ!

The og got to much time on his hands…..let me get on the internet and judge another man’s outfits……and write a rap and use some big words and call it a day……he looking for attention…the same way kanye does with his clothes…rappers are all attention whores…actors you know the type yall probably grew up with some

      • fabbidavisjr

Fashion wise yeah I rather dress like the old guy………as far as who’s music I prefer hands down Kanye

      • Bumpy Johnson

id prefer brand nubian music over Kanye passed 06 music right after gold digger joint he did.

      • fabbidavisjr

      • best_believe

OG Lord Jamar speaking the truth. I love it that he speaking the truth. And I don’t feel like he looking for the attention like to think he can start his career again. But he is a 5%er or something like that. So he ain’t like other people who let that queer shit slide like that. Speak ya mind. This Homo community force all that gay shit on us. If they want to be in the Boy Scouts open your own shit up. I don’t see black people upset cause they can’t join the kkk. Or white people mad cause they aren’t accepted in the congressional black caucus.

      • 20world_death2nikocity

So hip hop is for straight men as the KKK is for white people? lawd.

      • Shalove2

Yes. and I have grown tired of folks wanting to co opt African American culture. There really is a straight male culture and Hip Hop is it’s music.

    • That was BS, every one knows AJ from 106 & Park pioneered HomoThugging!

Nothing wrong with not being the ‘toughest guy in the room’ and just being a normal everyday Black man…part of the problem with Black youth today is that images push them to be either one thing or another..

      • 20world_death2nikocity

exactly…truth be told if u make it out the hood u wasnt a thug to begin with. real thugs aint lookin to move off the block..sounds crazy but thats the reality

      • By the way… Gunplay made bail, lol.

      • Did he do it without an “Arthur Hearing” as required?

    • RealMusic

      They call boypussies buttons now?

  • RatchetBlackWoman

    ill believe him..

  • Lord Saltsworth McGinty III

While I would not wear one personally, Kanye was performing in an ancient Egyptian kilt. A Kilt is not a dress. Ancient Egyptian men usually wore kilts made of linen. Once again, peoples ignorance of history and anything other than silly hood sh@t is maddening.

    • Celz

      He shoulda dressed Egyptian then

      • Lord Saltsworth McGinty III

He wore what is in essence a costume while performing the song “Power” while wearing a gold Horace piece…..get it? I immediately recognized the reference. Yet some would rather believe that its some gay shyt. Believe what you will, yet you wonder why black folks are in the state that they are.

      • Ok then explain walking down the street in a leather skirt..no performance involved…

      • Um…that ‘chet is gay!

      • RealMusic

        No its art!
What your boys do around the skunky weed bowl is gay.

      • Sounds like some one “TAMPERED” with you, but we don’t do the weed bowl thing, so your mistaken, that was your priest!

      • DJ7

        Bwwwahahahahaha….. I peeped that too

      • That profile is a “Raging Homosexual” aka : Flamer.

      • You make some of the gayest comments I have ever seen in my life. One time you replied back to me about lip gloss and swinging hips and it had nothing to do with anything what so ever.

      • Yes it did, I told you to get out my face while you were wearing lip gloss & swinging your hips.

      • Thanks for proving to me how your mind actually works, pretty gay comment. Oh well, the fruit don’t fall from the tree as they say. Usually the ones who make constant gay jokes are closet cases themselves. Hey, at least in most states you can legally get married. You have come so far.

      • I’m sure you have every one of them memorized, waiting for that special guy to elope with!

      • More gay comments from the flamer.. what else should I expect? Have fun with that lip gloss & swinging hips you love to talk about.

      • RealMusic

        Easy access.

      • Celz

I probably confused that performance with one of the many times he just plain wore a man skirt. At what point does an Egyptian influenced outfit with an added skirt become an skirt outfit with added Egyptian influence..

      • Q.

“Horace” …Almost. That would be Horus, rather HERU.

On the other hand, there are a number of entertainers using Kemetic (Ancient Egyptian) symbols, with the wrong energy behind them, so we can’t co-sign them just for displaying.

      • The ones that made it, flash the symbols, but we don’t understand it, any more than the 3 city states with an Obelisk, that control the world.

        London, Washington, DC, Vatican.

        The 3 City empire.
        London = Finacial
        Washington = Military
        Vatican = Religion

      • Q.

There are more obelisks than that placed in various cities, but yeah, those three capitals are the heads of the Western Empire… I would add NYC too, on the Finance tip.

      • churchboy2

He did actually; it was sort of a hood version of MJ in the “Remember the Time” video (except MJ wore pants too, LOL!)

      • RealMusic

He should have danced on one. Them Egyptian men are fineeeee.

    • Bumpy Johnson

In hip hop one shuold not wear ancient eqyptian stuff unless one is doin a video that is based on eqyptian times

      • RealMusic

Or flashing the pyramid, with your hands or otherwise.

  • Joseph Thomas

this is way of getting back into the limelight??!?!

    • Bumpy Johnson

well if the truth is spoken . thats more important.

  • JohnnyQuesst

More immature and naive people being immature and naive. Kanye West didn’t hold a single gun to anyones head saying, “wear skinny jeans and be like me or die.” Any guy who wears skinny/slim fit jeans did so willingly. I still don’t understand how you can date some of the sexiest women on the planet, yet still everyone will call you gay for not dressing how they think you should.

    • churchboy2

Agreed. Lord Jamar is/was a legend but he is far from the lane by rapping about other men’s fashion choices and who is and is not gay.
It is a shame when a legend sullies their legacy with pettiness.

      • RealMusic

        Its jealousy.

      • This that new age hip-hop fan..ya’ll act like jamar did something new..this is the way hip-hop has been and should be…he’s got every right to say what he wants to regardless of your opinion. I’m sure you’d bash krs-one for the bridge is over back in the days too..these dudes helped hip-hop become what its become so yeah as a parent you sometimes gotta spank that kid and put em in line..sorry this emo shhh today considers that bullying..I call that manning up.

      • churchboy2

Dog, I’m about the same age as KRS and Lord Jamar and am a parent – so you need to slow down with your ‘I’m old school and I know what I’m talking about’ stance.

You fail to recognize that LJ’s diss:
        a) had nothing to do with hip-hop,
        b) was attached to a terrible song, AND
        c) failed to address all the other rappers in his generation who wore skirts/kilts/kangas. I’m talking Afrika Bambaataa, Members of X-Clan and Speech from Arrested Development.

And let’s not forget the tight leather pants with frills that The Furious Five and other 80s rappers wore.

If LJ really wanted to go down the high-schoolish “that’s gay” route with his level of influence, then perhaps he should have started 20 years ago.

Kanye is a different dude and I’m not defending “his ways” by any stretch, but LJ is reaching with this one because Kanye is an easy/convenient target.

And lastly, if calling someone gay is your idea of being a man then you sir (and your video game friends), represent much of what is wrong with this generation.

My people need to hear about working a boring job for 20 years in order to feed their families as a way to “man up”. How about caring for our women instead of calling them things I care not to type? How about being present in their kids’ lives?

But no. You think that calling Kanye West “gay” is an adequate expression of manhood.

        Shame on you.

      • There is such a thing as freedom of speech..guess what I do anytime a drake song comes on? I change the station..or the channel..see how that works? If you don’t like the song don’t like it..plenty of others are saying it’s about damn time someone stand up..funny though nobody was whinning when pimp c was doing the same damn thing. I love that irony involved here. In terms of age I suppose you and I are about the same age then but let me ask you this..are you surprised as someone who lived through an era where rappers called each other out for bullshhh why are you so worked up jamar is following the tradition? My video game friends? It’s a business cuz..don’t hate or try to demean me for hustling out of the box…at the end of the day i’d rather push gaming news thanto stand on a corner poisoning my neighborhood. Speech, Afrika, Clan-x displayed an african tradition..I didn’t know people in africa are running around with leather skirts in NYC’s Soho. Shame on me? F-U plain and simple.

      • churchboy2

Clearly there is much that we agree on.

But I will say this to clarify my position:

There are too many important issues in our community that need addressing for Jamar to waste his influence pointing out “the gayness” of other people in our community.

I mean, really? Is “You’re gay because of the clothes you wear” the best a largely silent hip-hop legend could come up with?

Perhaps I am the only one around here disappointed at Jamar’s wasted opportunity…

Imagine a legend in another genre coming out of semi-retirement to address their awaiting public only to say: “I don’t like the way (insert name here) dresses and I think that they are gay.”

But then again, I should not be surprised that the rapper that went from “One For All” to “Punks Jump Up to Get Beat Down” would be struggling to stay on message.

      • I hear you bro, the thing is it has to start somewhere..I personally think right now Kanye is the hands down most influential of the bunch..so why waste your time dealing with the clones when you can kill it right at the source? Could he take on some other targets? Yeah but the reality is most of those people are already under fire from somewhere or someone..Kanye is the only rapper I know who gets a pass for everything he does..like literally a pass for everything he does regardless of how embarassing it is to minorities and that’s fine we don’t have to look at it as a black/hispanic/white thing..but more so as a culture..I have always been a follower of “The art of war” why bother with the body when you can kill the head?

      • cleva

        ^^^^THIS.

    • Luther Vandross was always seen at parties with some fly honeys..and we all know how gay luther was…having a chick doesn’t make you straight..much of Kanye’s actions and behaviors scream gay. Don’t believe it..ask anyone you know is gay what they believe his orientation is…

      • RealMusic

You was into Luther tho? wtf

      • What’s wrong with luther..if you grew up in the 80’s and 90’s in a proper household you would know luther..also go check his resume..he wrote a lot of gems for other ppl. Good music is good music..don’t care the genre…hell i listen to thelonious monk…how many hip-hop producers have jacked him? You can’t know who is brilliant in hip-hop if you don’t know where they stole their sound from. When you hear a song and go that’s dope and that’s a nice sample..I go “damn he really took that from a luther or sam cooke track”..see the difference…oh and go ask your mom’s about luther if you don’t know about him..she’ll put you on proper.

      • RealMusic

Oh thats what you mean. I thought you were into Luther below the waist.

      • JohnnyQuesst

What actions scream gay? Wearing a kilt? (which Irish soldiers and Egyptian men wore daily) Wearing skinny jeans? (Men wore fitted jeans back in the days. They weren’t called “skinny” and nobody made a fuss about it, however men wore pretty much the same fitted jeans that Kanye Wear. The jeans that Kanye wear and the Jeans that The New Boyz or Lil Wayne wear are two different styles. If anything, call Wayne gay. Kanye got inspired by European fashion designers. Most men fashion designers are gay men. You are wearing clothes made by gay men. Does that make you any less straight? No, your insecurity makes you less straight.

      • What actions scream gay?More like what action besides being a rent a hoe make him straight..from the hissy fit…you want the real kanye west go find the episode where he first appeared on the kardashians..him and kim are in a boutique..he’s not aware the camera’s are recording..you hear kanye’s real voice and see his real maneurisms..after watching that if you don’t think dude is hella gay I don’t know what to tell you fam. Ya’ll think this is limited to his fashion but it’s not..in terms of insecurity I actually have gay friends who aren’t closet gay like most mofo’s these day and if that’s the life you choose and you are happy more power to you..just like i will fight for freedom of speech i will fight for someone’s right to marry whoever the hell they want..so yeah i’m pretty damned secure.

    • SpaceAge2012

Truth is Kanye himself said that he copies his fashion styles from gay men & 1 of his bestfriends is designer Marc Jacob who started that trend of wearin skirts.

      • RealMusic

Doesnt mean he’s sucking him one, although I would like the footage *drools*

      • SpaceAge2012

*Riley Freeman’s Voice* “Nigga u gay!”

      • RealMusic

        Jealous?

    • best_believe

Don’t be mad cause you looked in the mirror and said,”What’s wrong with skinny jeans.” GTFOH.

      • JohnnyQuesst

Who said I was mad? I stated the obvious. Instead of worrying about what the next man doing, worry about yourself. I don’t wear skinny jeans. If I did however I wouldn’t be insecure about it. I know I’m not gay and the girls who flock me daily to tell me they like my style definitely know I’m not gay. Why would Kanye West worry about what a bunch of no named people like yourself have to say? What importance are you to him, his money and life?

  • nobody else laughed when Jamar raps (on Punks Jump Up..) “Did you want some more? I didn’t think so / Just got whipped, like a fagot in the clink / So I suggest you take your bloody mess / An’ find a piece of wire, fix your broken jaw then it’s time to retire” ?

    • how you “laugh” but you remember the rhyme? cmon man…

    • RealMusic

More about this fagot in the clink plz…..

      • I agree fam, and that’s my point..these kids sit at their computers talking about how someone is irrelevant..i find that hilarious.

      • RealMusic

He actually is a non-fckn factor. Who has he sucked off lately?

      • He’s a non factor? Really…you clearly have no idea wtf you speak of…trust me on that..Lord Jamar has been heavily involved and active in hip-hop his entire career even if sites like AHH don’t bother covering his doings.

    • lmao..you school me? hahahhahahaha. You will clown me? I was around when union square was the spot..I’ve forgotten more hip-hop than you will ever learn son..18? Kid you have no idea what real hip-hop is..sorry bro..you came way after the real music had died.

You ain’t know nothing about that b4 these homo thugs appeared!

        Wait…that’s not Hip Hop….that’s rap!

  • 2012Industry1

Love Kanye. One of the G.O.A.T.’s of the industry and extended the Hip Hop Branch of “being yourself” Hip Hop! However, Lord Jamar does speak SOME truth in what he’s spitting! He did make it ok to be yourself, and I think some people are gay, so that’s what they are! Y’all gotta remember, there’s more normal and special people in this world then gangsters and “keepin’ it real” posers! Even in the most ghetto deepest hoods are some regular minded people that weren’t being spoken for, and I think that’s who Kanye reached! Gayness outfits aside (and truthfully they are, KANYE’S EVEN SAID IT), he’s influenced a generation that hasn’t been spoken for at the time for at least 10 years! Lord Jamar is a legend and speak some truth, but he went a little far with the disrespect of people orientation.

    • Being yourself? If this is kanye being himself what was he all those years he didn’t have to have an image? He didn’t wear none of this bullshhh..this is kanye trying to be euro fashionable..which i’m sorry but that shhh does not work here. Posers? Isn’t Kanye the biggest one? Listen to the shh he said he didn’t want to be on college drop out and look at what he’s become..every single thing he used to detest.

      • 2012Industry1

Kanye was what he could afford to be at the time! Euro Fashion, true, but I think he was always that guy, just couldn’t afford it and didn’t have access to know all that. You say that shhh doesn’t work here, but it’s all over the place because of him. I am old school raised, but I do recognize influence when I see it, and it is influence. Never wore skinny jeans, pink, fur or anything else that cat has introduced to Hip Hop, but a lot of cats do, and that’s them! Same thing when T-Shirts/Khaki’s/Shades/Nike Cortez was the Gangsta look of the late 80’s early 90’s brought on by my L.A. people! I was in the middle of all that and never tagged on that trend either. The difference between that and Kanye is, I think a lot of these kids are being who they really are opposed to when Cube/Geto Boys/Ice-T was top dogs! I did say being themselves….not YOU exactly!

      • On the flipside….it’s paying the bills.

      • DJ7

At what cost tho E? who’s expense? I get where you coming from… brotha gotta eat but really…. like this tho son?

      • #IJS

We can’t say that we wouldn’t do the same, for the same $$$, until we have been offered the scrilla & turned it down.

Would I put on MC Hammer pants & dance for burgers?
I have put on the uniform & flipped them for less.

        >>In Kool G Rap’s Voice: “It’s a damn shame what I gotta do for the money!”

Flip side, it doesn’t take much to make me happy, due to what I’ve been through & going through, so maybe I could stick to my morals & not sell out, but MC Hammer pants & dancing for KFC for $10 Mil?

        “You can’t touch this!”
        >> Starts dancing to Rick James beat!

      • While I agree with you, he was eating just as good before he crossed over. Dude timbaland charges 250k a track…Kanye was up there too..plus royalties and neither produces for nobodies..Kanye made more money as a producer than he has as an artist…he wanted to become an artist and signed a shhht def jam deal..so he launched g.o.o.d to make up for it.

      • How much $$$ is enough?

        “Just a little bit more!”

        Timbaland?

When was the last time he was paid like that for a track?
Eitherway, be honest….do you buy music or bootleg it?

If you do buy it…is it because you don’t know how to bootleg…or you just have too much $$$?

I used to be bitter about what Hip Hop has become….until I realized Hip Hop never changed…I just confused it with RAP.

  • Naledge77

track is garbage but that Conan looped track is fire!!!!

  • To the youngin’s Brand Nubian (if the name of the group doesn’t give it away) was about the perception of black males..so it’s only natural they would speak up about one of the most popular entertainers in the world marring the image of black men..this really isn’t just about fashion..it’s about Kanye being a coon in their eyes..you don’t have to agree but lord jamar has been putting rappers on blast for bullshhh for a long time..call it hate,, call it a legend stepping out of line..the irony is had a current top rapper said this you’d probably be co-signing him..can’t nobody here deny all this started after his star power took a hit with the grammy situation..he dresses weird and get’s 100 articles about it…fact is Kanye would wear a breathing panda on his back if it got him the attention he craves..and of course idiots will wear anything they think is what’s goign to be hot next.

When you have self respect, your less apt to let people violate you.

( Newark, Watts riots, etc. )

So to prevent that, or rather, to counter the resurgence of consciousness reignited by Rakim, KRS, PE, etc., they gave us this!

        Deep post! Real Spill!

      • Q.

That’s trilla, mynilla. Though you left off BET (under Viacom)…Oh, we can’t forget Buffoonish Embarrassing Television! LOL
I been trying to hip cats to the colors/harmonics science. I’m sure you noticed the over-abundance of “Red” themes in music in recent years…that’s that lower chakra/lower nature programming at play.

It’s funny you said “white music” though…I look at music as either Soul-full or Soul-less. And most music we consider white was fathered by some form of soul-based harmonics (Blues, Jazz, Funk, etc). But I feel what you’re saying: I’ve done the knowledge on a lot of these new electro-synth rap beats lacking that soul element. Some of the ish is cool, but a lot of these rap beats be on some generic, extra dark, emo, borderline horror sh!t. Don’t get me started on the lyrics and videos.

      • Pierre Elliott

I did forget BET but I wrote them off so long ago.
You noticed how they made the comedians repeat the last thing they said over and over again as if they were being sampled by some wacky vocal sampler from the 80s. I always wondered why they did that, cause it wasnt like that way at the start. Then I realized Viacom took full control of BET. We just wholly commit to what they put out.

Black peoples Music and Hip Hop were RELEGATED to BLACK RADIO STATIONS… ANd a few songs crossed over. Now every song that comes out by these new artist sounds…..white, and devoid of soul.
Madddd poppish. I didnt grow up to that type of music, and when it came on the radio ( cause I grew up in the Mid West were there were NO BLACK stations) we turned that sh*t, but I love soul, I love music with feeling.

This is not about a certain time, or golden age this was black music.

      • Q.

Wow. I just had a revelation: They’re trying to make us THEM, so they can be US. That’s why all this Satanism is in rap now. We are the gateway…always have been.

      • Jame Shivar

Yall sound even dumber now! Satan been in music. Aint got shit to do with white people either. People need to start being more responsible is all. What you say,put out, listen too, what you do. We are all guilty! I stopped listening to all music in the past year. I finally grew up and started paying attention. What you put in is what you put out!

      • Pierre Elliott

LOOK UP GOVT TEST OF MIND CONTROL.
LOOK UP THE SONG: LOUIE LOUIE.

YOU NEED TO DO YOUR RESEARCH AND STOP LIVING BY A BOOK THATS 2,000 YEARS OLD AND NOT EVEN COMPLETE. BY A LONG SHOT.

WHATS MORE POSSIBLE? A RED MAN WITH A GOAT BODY AND HORNS, OR A SPECIES THATS 1,000,000,000 YEARS OLD AND UTILIZES ELEMENTS THAT ARE NOT IN OUR SOLAR SYSTEM OR DIMENSION, AND THE GOVT KNOWS?

      • Q.

To acknowledge Satan yet simultaneously discount the existence of other dimensions is self-contradictory, bro! There is no Satan walking around in the 3rd dimension, but there are demonic spirits in dimensions beyond this physical one… Yes, SATANISM has been in music for a long time, but it has not been prevalent in Rap until recently. If you’ve followed mainstream Hip-Hop, you’d have noticed the nature of the music has done a complete 180 over the past 15 years–the energy has been reversed. Now ask yourself, “Why is that?” The guilty parties are the ones who conceive, produce, market, and support this trash. The kids are innocent because they’re not responsible for the wickedness adults taint their minds with.

      • RichMalone

Most of us serve satan and some of us serve God. But yeah music is satans biggest tool. Always has been. Does not only haunt hip hop but all genres of music.

WAKE UP BROTHER, CHRISTIANITY IS WHAT THEY FORCED YOU INTO AFTER THEY TOOK YOUR HISTORY FROM YOU.

THIS ISNT ABOUT A HISTORY LESSON, THIS IS A TRUTH ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO KNOW WHATS REALLY GOING ON..

    • @ Pierre Elliott — You have some good insight on many things that are considered real. I do disagree with your thoughts about southern hip hop. Especially the “slave hymnals”, spelling and use of the N word comments. Really??? Check your history, just as you have instructed others to do Mr. Elliott. I’m no fan of Dewayne Carter but he did do a song about Katrina called Georgia Bush. David Banner speaks on relevant topics all the time. Don’t stereotype southern hip hop, you’ll get nowhere doing that. I’d like to have a sensible discussion with you about your strong opinion on southern hip hop. Sensible, without all the words in CAPS and jargon….you’re dealing with a man who grew up with hip hop, not some teenager who don’t know who Stetsasonic, King Tee, Awesome Dre or MC Shy D is.
I do believe you are intelligent, but do not expect to hear from you so I’ll grant you best wishes on your career and life. PEACE.

I’m all for dudes having a soft/sensitive/emotional side… I’d like to think my sensitive side is well developed, and I think the women I’ve been with would concur. But these dudes take it way too far. Kanye is the poster boy for that. So much of how he represents himself is straight feminine. I think it’s dumb to question his sexuality, but I think it’s definitely fair to challenge his masculinity. So much of his lyrical content is whiny b!#(# boy music. I can’t knock him as a producer because he’s unbelievable with that, but as an artist I can’t stand him. When your own narcissistic ways lead to major problems in your life, don’t whine about them and act like a victim. As a Social figure, he is a joke. I really think that the child created by him and Kardashaskank quite honestly has a chance to be the most self absorbed person ever. In my opinion, Him, Puffy and Master P are by far the biggest detractors to the art form in it’s history.

    • Q.

You made a great point here: Sexuality and Masculinity are not one and the same. While I don’t think this cat is actually a homo, his “kilts” and diva behavior have mos def knocked his Man Score down a few hunnid points… So one could argue that he IS a b!tch. LOL

    • ccwaterbound32

puffy i get but not P he showed us brothers how to get down for ours and have a successful business now i admit his lyrical content isn’t the most stellar but i feel his business practices help to give alot of brothers insight on how to run your OWN company instead of relying on the majors…now kanye and puffy them dudes is HOMO to the zillionth power! puff had on a kilt too!!! I AINT NEVER SEEN PERCY MILLER IN NO DAMN DRESS!!!FACT!!!

      • zkinter36

The art form… Detractor to the art form… Master P lowered the bar for what was acceptable in terms of content. Very smart businessman, but he succeeded selling a garbage product to a region that was ignorant about what quality hip hop was.

      • ccwaterbound32

lol you pretty much summed up what i said only in an a more short form… still though that’s what makes this culture great because we can debate on who is great, what their contributions to the culture are, and how much great music they gave to us but hey im from Louisiana so i gotta go with my boy percy sorry…

      • RichMalone

Nah….at the end of the day, he didn’t take from the culture without giving back, he put half of N.O. on, and his family, which is how it’s supposed to be…..he put his music out independently, and we scooped it..wasn’t the best, but it had it’s moments….And he always tried to do better though hi business ventures….there are FAR worse detractors

  • Thomas Smith

What’s weird is that the state of hip hop as whole is confused…..when I was growing up hip-hop was universal….so many different styles brand nubian is included in those styles i’m speaking but to say somebody is gay for what they where or design, then what happen to hip hop? what happen to lord jamar? back in the 70’s and early 80’s rapper’s were wearing all kinds clothes that made you scratch your head but was apart of hip-hop and made hip hop different from all different types of music genres…..very interesting what I here from all you maybe all of you should go to the history….yes the history of hip hop to see that what kanye west is paying attention too instead of just calling him gay….what going on?? rap music has rape what hip hop was about…..like common said along time ago “I used to love H.E.R.”

    • Curtis75Black

Peep his Vlad video. He spoke on everything from Kanye, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5 to Run DMC changing the way we wore clothes in Hip Hop. The interview wasn’t that Black & White.

    • truth

  • Gay or Not, Kanye West is rich, makes slapping beats, and raps much better than Lord Jamar. I grew up on Brand Nubian, and we all know that Grand Puba, and Sadat X were the voices of that group’s success. Lord Jamar just went along for the ride. His raps were not even good in the Golden Era

Old School cats need to stop acting bitter, and trying to create a buzz for themselves by dissing someone making it in this shitty game. Might I add, I am by no means a fan of Kanye or his actions either.

    • RealMusic

      Some real truth tea.

  • In other news: Ray Lewis wins the Super Bowl, and is still crying for unknown reasons..

  • c’mon, the world class wreckin’ crew (here’s looking at you dre) was dressing as some would say “pretty suspect” back in the day. High fashion in hip hop isn’t a new thing. Its revisionist history that is making us forget that just because all throughout the 90’s and 00’s when cats were dressing all hood, they were originally dressing all flashy with super shiny tight clothes. If you looked back you would probably think that all them cats in the late 70’s and 80’s who were rapping were gay too. People are just looking for a reason to hate and wanting to call out people who have a different sense of style as being gay. Why do you think there are some many dudes in the african american community who are on the DL? They’re afraid of coming out as who the y really are and that causes even more problems. Sometimes the hip hop world acts too much like the ultra conservative right that it rallies against.

    • Q.

Good points here…can’t even argue. Old-school Hip-Hop cats were wearing some wacked out ish back in the day–some of those outfits were pretty extravagant.

The only thing I gotta differ with you on is the statement about DL Black men. The media has been telling that tale for quite a while now, even Oprah…but there are PLENTY of out gays and lesbians in the Black community, and don’t give a fucck who knows either! So I can’t say that there are any more DL Black gays than there are white, Asian, Hispanic or otherwise, especially in these times. But traditional cultures in general tend to be anti-gay.

      • you may be right, but it seems to be a much larger stigma for males to come out than females. People don’t get this much excited about rumors or even make diss songs about Da Brat or Queen Latifah.

    • ccwaterbound32

so we supposed to accept them with open arms? dude if you notice it’s them models and rappers with mixed ethnicities puttin out that kind of thinking… look that broad draya michele she openly bi with a clothing line called F.A.G (fine ass girls) alot of these women are to blame for how hip hop is right now too…nicki minaj with her trysexual ass, dabrat, that chick snoop from the wire… i mean let’s be real when kobe mouthed off the word faggot he got fined for 100G’s! he aint called nobody a faggot he just said the word and got fined just because…. hell i was working at a Kohl’s not too long ago and the f**king store manager was a homo he promoted another dude to supervisor just because that nigga had muscles and i didn’t so i mean i think it’s a huge conspiracy about gays despising heterosexuals….

      • wow, i feel bad for you. you’re seeming real butt hurt about a lot of shyt. its a rough world out there. not sure if you’re gonna make it.

      • ccwaterbound32

not really…life goes on i was just speaking about MY experience with that particular situation but you however must be one of those homosexuals i was refering to… so now what?

      • nope, straight. sorry, i know you were hoping so, because you seem to be one of those self hating closeted homosexuals, why else would you come to the conclusion that the other dude was promoted because of his muscles, and not because of the fact that, and im just guessing from the limited amount of knowledge i have from you and what seems to be a real lack of logical reasoning and the ability to comprehend and express proper english, he was probably smarter than you.

      • ccwaterbound32

nope wrong… i only said that because of the females i was cool with who told me what was going on homosexuals tend to be comfortable with the sex they imitate male fags hang with girls and studs hang with boys so the girls would strike up conversations with me from time to time about work related issues and in one particular instance a chick told me the other dude was getting a promotion just based off of his looks and not his work ethic she basically said “dude was eye candy for the boss and he wanted to keep him in close proximity to get lucky with him” she said that as clear as day just like that! so i mean what the hell else am i going to think when your being told something like that? and i knew it was true too because she always hangs out with that faggot so obviously i put 2 and 2 together… so nice try trying to pin that homo shit on me homie but HELL NO! i don’t swing that way… as far as YOU being a homo maybe you aren’t maybe you are ill never know but BASED ON YOUR COMMENT i think you are but that’s just my opinion… ball in your court stretch…

      • alright kid, how can i take even take this shit seriously? You question my intelligence, yet you are completely unable to type a proper sentence or use a single comma. Did you even get your GED? Obviously you didn’t graduate from high school. Maybe if you go back and get your GED you will learn how to type a proper sentence and get a job somewhere else than Kohl’s. Maybe then you won’t have to worry about the Gays taking your job.

      • ccwaterbound32

let me just say this i got a diploma and i will be furthering my education that i am certain… but you who seems to have all the answers to all the questions answer me this what is the purpose of meaning for all human beings to live and abide by? if you got an answer for that MAYBE ill give you some credit… enlighten me o great one!!!

      • ccwaterbound32

by the way quit thinking so hard im beginning to question your brain’s full capacity if it even has that….

      • Do yourself a favor, before you even think about commenting on someone else’s intelligence, sign up for some night classes and get your GED. There is no way you have a high school diploma if you are unable to properly type a sentence, use a comma, or even understand how to use an ellipsis. Maybe then you can find a job somewhere other than Kohl’s and you won’t have to worry about the Gays taking your job.

      • ccwaterbound32

and also what the hell does proper diction and puncuation have to do with a personal experience? i thought we was talking about the feminization of the black male within hip hop not no got damn English exam!!! dude you take yourself a tad bit too serious if you ask me…

      • nope, i don’t take myself seriously. I just lack any respect for someone who is bigoted and disregard any opinion of that person when they clearly lack intelligence. You should be more worried about the lack of education, than feminization.

      • ccwaterbound32

bigoted? HA! far from it just because i said faggot im a bigot? i have never disrespected anyone for any given reason who didn’t deserve it or who didn’t have it coming to them… furthermore i pride myself in working for what i want and it pisses me off when i bust my ass trying to better myself and all MY hard work is for naught because my physical appearance doesn’t meet up to the sexual desires of my supervisor? thats utter bullshit! kick rocks homie you don’t know about struggle or what a person has going on in their lives to pre judge and pass off such a worthless and poor observation! i don’t have to prove a damn thing to you or anyone all i did was share MY personal experience on the subject and hear you come being captain save a fag… so im not going to feel down on myself because of what you talking about!!! never that!!! peace dude get some life experience before you comment on people at least ask why i was working at kohl’s instead of acting like your better then someone… by the way did they teach you to be judgmental in school or were that way before you went to college?

      • bigot-a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance

We’re hard-working, suave, humble, slick, nic-with-our-hands type cats….please believe i get upset when other cities associate his feminine(not homosexual) attitudes with Chicago & Chicago Hip-Hop. Lord Jamar had a scene in OZ where he dropped on his knees and it was implied that he was blowing an inmate (Chris Melonie). While the Hip Hop has taken a turn for the worse on all fronts, you can’t have a scene like that on your resume then come at dudes about skinny jeans.

  • That was silly of Kanye to put that dress on and everybody knows he looked ridiculous. But right now that’s beside the point. Lord Jamar is an icon but he’s trying to dictate what he thinks is and isn’t acceptable in and out of Hip Hop and nobody ordained him for that. Live and let live.

What does Lord Jamar have to say about Afrika Bambaataa? Or Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five? I don’t remember seeing any of them in baggy jeans at the height of their popularity. Those pioneers wore a lot of furs, leather and even feathers but you won’t find anyone questioning their sexuality.

It’s just entertainment. If you have any doubts look at what ‘Ye wears in his down time.

Lord Jamar believes in Islam. There are a lot of “dress” wearing men in the Muslim world. Does Lord Jamar have a problem with that?

Kanye was actually in a kilt. There are a lot of hard motherfuckers wearing kilts in Scotland. Does that bother Lord Jamar?

I respect what he’s done for hip hop but Lord Jamar is off base here. He needs to thank Kanye for pushing him back into the limelight.

I think it’s Kanye better watch his shyt.If you don’t know about the notorious ass whopens Nubian used to deal niggaz then you must have been a baby.I’m glad he spoke too caue this shyt yall younginz call hip hop these days isn’t hip hop.I’ve spoke on this subject many times on this site and some hate me cause I’m straight jacket truth.Let’s get some real grown man rap out here and show some skillz with subject matter that isn’t just based off whack ass repetitive beats, I could go on.I feel sorry for my kids that have to grow up listening to this garbage most today think is dope.I used to like Kanye but he gets a no go for me because even his production to a degree has faltered. As far dressing like a woman I aint wit it and nobody should be dissed because they don’t associate with gay culture I don’t so fck how anybody feels .Hip hop today get some balls niggaz.

Jamar made me realize he’s not a critical thinker. He doesn’t understand the difference between gender and sexuality and that really doesn’t understand the history of the very culture he tries to rep so hard. Homosexuality isn’t in conflict with Heterosexuality. Gay men aren’t the problem for straight men. Straight men need to look at themselves. Violence, fatherless families, high school drop out rates, etc – those are some masculine, hetero male issues. Kanye could be gay. Kanye could dress up in a kilt daily but show me the correlation to the “Jamar” type abandoning their children, abusing their women, and lacking education and Kanye type antics? This also reeks of sexism as well. I am old school. I remember when Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five wore the flashy clothes. Look at most of the artists from the 70’s and 80’s – Earth, Wind, and Fire, The Jacksons, etc. and hip hop did the same. It was about entertainment NOT sexuality. Hyper masculinity has gotten hip hop nowhere.

I agree. I’m heterosexual and I love Nubian but Jamar is trying too hard.

Black ppl are about to be extinct. Good. Such a phony community that vibes off its own stupidity. So many things to say about it, but for what. You never even got a real Black President. He is African and Caucasian. That sure says a lot about your priorities.
