(AllHipHop News) The cult classic film Love Jones has been adapted into a stage production and fans across the country will get to see the musical starting this fall.
An all-star cast of R&B/Hip Hop artists such as Chrisette Michelle, Musiq Soulchild, Marsha Ambrosius, MC Lyte, Raheem Devaughn, and Dave Hollister will perform popular hits as well as their own records. A few original songs are part of the show as well.
“We are really excited about this opportunity to break new ground with this musical, as it relates to African American offerings in theater around the country,” states producer Melvin Childs. “Our team has created something truly special and sincerely hope to live up to the expectations of the fans of the iconic film, Love Jones.”
Childs’ Produced By Faith is producing Love Jones The Musical with the film’s original writer/director Theodore Witcher serving as a consulting producer. The play was written by Timothy Allen Smith and directed by Zadia Ife.
Described as “a hip When Harry Met Sally,” Witcher’s Love Jones is considered one of the standout African-American led films of all time. The 1997 romantic-drama starred Larenz Tate and Nia Long.
The movie’s soundtrack was also well received. Cuts by Lauryn Hill, Dionne Farris, Maxwell, Xscape, and others were featured on the collection.
