Kentucky Hip-Hop collective The Nappy Roots have announced the release of their third album, titled The Humdinger.

The Humdinger will be released independently on the group’s own Nappy Roots Entertainment Group, which is distributed by Fontana.

The Hip-Hop quintet, now consists of Skinny Deville, Ron Clutch, B. Stille, Big V and Fish Scales, since group member R. Prophet left the group to pursue a solo career.

Now, The Nappy Roots are  aiming to match the success of their initial releases.

The group’s debut album Watermelon, Chicken & Gritz and the follow-up, Wooden Leather have sold over 2 million copies combined.

"When you think of Nappy, you think raw and untamed," said Nappy Roots group member Fish Scales of the album’s latest sound. "But you also think pure and natural.”

The first single from The Humdinger is “No Static,” while the group’s song “Good Day” from DJ Greg Street’s upcoming album on Interscope Records will be serviced to radio outlets shortly.

The Humdinger is due in stores August 5.

What it do homey?  Like I said above, I went to school up there in BG around the same time as them dudes.  I know a couple of them...Mel was homies roommate.  I've heard several niggaz make the same statements you made but I can't say from personal experience with the couple I kicked it with cause we never mixed music on that business level ( more like blunted freestyle ciphers and shit like that ).  If that's how u feel then I'm sure you have your reasons, just like some others who have said the same thing.

@richie sick
If dude is family, he has more of a right to his opinion than any outsider cause he know dude first hand.  That don't mean he a hata ( although there is a fine line ).  Sometimes it ain't about what they doing...but more about how they did it.

Shout out to my other BG niggaz.......Big T, Herb T, Diamond Cuttz, etc.

Now that I can cosign.  That wuz the only real problem I had with what they were doing.  I lived in KY 20+ years, before moving, and I ain't neva been on a farm or none of that country boy shit they was spittin'.   I felt like that immediately pigeon holed any new artists coming outta KY.  It was almost kinda gimmicky.   99.9 percent of the artists I know from KY ain't comin' like that, or should I say, they weren't coming like that back in the day.  Niggaz in the ville either had a west or midwest swaggar due to the Blood/Crip shit poppin'.  Niggaz on the west side of KY was just diverse with the shit ( more up north, east and midwest type of shit ).

I think that was the point me and yungthug08 was trying to make.  With people seeing them as the "face of Kentucky", they think that is what Kentucky is when in actuality, the black majority of us from KY ( at least from P-town to the ville ) can't cosign that shit.  You said numbers don't lie. Plenty of new artists do #s their 1st and maybe their 2nd albums just off public curiosity alone OR people hopping on the next new sound.  Speaking for myself, I'm not downing the dudes cause I got love for them.  I'm just pointing out the obvious perception versus reality.

at the end of the day, everybody needs help at some point in their life.  ain't a success story in rap that didn't do it without a little bit of help.  i know if i was in a cool position, i'd love to help MOST of my family members out (ha ha!  we all know we got some annoying ass family members that we can't get along with.  like the saying goes, you don't get to choose your family).

No doubt.  They do make good music and they got a KY mixture.  KY is seriously slept on though.  I'm an old head, by hip hop standards, so I remember the rap atmosphere being totally different back in the day.  Nowadays you got these dudes following whateva is hot....rappin' one way back in '92 and sounding like they from the A in '08.  The shit is disgusting.  The one thing u gotta give Nappy is that they made their own lane, even if it does feel like a stereotype of what its like in KY.
Trust me, the times I been to Louisville, or home for that matter, it didn't ever feel "country" outside of maybe the slang.  KY hip hop is, to me, is diverse cause we surrounded by states with totally different vibes.  I hope that when we do get on , that is reflected.

However it wouldn't surprise me if nigga's where dick heads either. And I don't see why intelligent people would think KY or Louisville was country as hell.  It is the birth place and home of Muhammad Ali.

Wutz good Mel?  Good to see yall back in the spot.  I cosign what u said about making the uplifting music.  That's what the game needs and what a lot of the up and coming artists from KY need to model after.  Its easy to make REAL street shit or spit fabricated rhymes....but it takes more to bring that creativity, spin that shit and still sound hot.  Don't worry about feelin' like yall owe anybody shit.  You don't need niggaz who are just around 4 what you can give them.  On the real, and I'm sure you already know this, but success brings the leeches out the woodwork.  There were always catz that felt like they were owed something (not talking bout yungthug08 cause that's family business, but u know what I'm sayin').  What they didn't understand is that, in the music business, it ain't always as easy as just givin' a nigga a deal.  This ain't the mom and pop store in the hood where ya homey can get you the hook up for the low....lol.   Its a business like any other business.  Keep doing whatchall doing, much success......and holla at the boy Mark ( aka Cuttz ) to get some of that heat for the album.  Tell B-Scott I said whats up ( ain't seen that nigga since the And 1 shit some years back ).  ~4080

@Jasper Murdock
"I never really saw the country shit as a gimmic because when u listened to their music u see that they are repping for the whole state."

No doubt...I feel what you saying. When I said gimmic, this is what I meant.  You know how record labels come up with these images for their artists.  Its like a marketing agenda to help the consumer relate or identify with the product, which is the artist.  I'm not saying this is how Nappy was packaged, but it could be perceived that way depending on where you grew up in KY or if you on the outside looking in.  "Country", to me, is different than "Southern".  When I think "country", I'm thinking the white boy hoppin' off his tractor, jumpin' in the pick-up truck with the confederate flag and gun rack on the back and muddin' around the farm...lol.   I think the lyrical vibe of the group is southern, but the image had that country feel to it.  Like my step dad is country as hell, but he from a 1 horse town that don't even have a McDonalds...lol.  Me personally, I've only seen a small percentage of "US" that fit that bill in KY.  Not a diss, just an observation based on my experiences.  Keep in mind too, that we are surrounded by states with distinctive cultural vibes and a lot of people who migrate from those areas and others ( Chicago, St. Louis, Memphis, VA, NY, Cali, Cashville, GA, etc. )  Hope that clears that up.

"And I don't see why intelligent people would think KY or Louisville was country as hell."

Dude you wouldn't believe.  Hell, I live in Cashville now and they think KY is country as hell ( like horses in the street and no running water country ).  I'm lookin' at these dudes like WHAT?.  They are more country, southern, or whateva than we are....lol.  When I was out in Long Beach, they had this whole idea of how blacks in "KY" were supposed to be.  Again, I'm like "yall watch too much tv".  Niggaz got the same shit, just on a different level and vibe.   I experienced the same shit when I was in Chicago and VA.  It fucked 'em up when we didn't fit their stereotype.

and for the record, anyone on the west, up north, or out east, think that anybody living in the south or with a southern accent (or even midwest) is country.  that's just the way it is.  ain't nothing wrong with it.  shit, my nigga pimp c said fuck all this bullshit ya'll talkin bout, we makin COUNTRY RAP TUNES (hold up!).

lmao.  I knew that statement would get a response from somebody.  Let me clarify my feelings on that.  Don't get me wrong, I like Goodie Mobb.  I've got all their albums.  The first is a mos definite classic.  However, when listening to it, I find myself tuning out everybody but Cee-Lo and at times Gip.  The other's rap style just doesn't do it for me.  That doesn't take anything away from them as a collective unit.  I just think that, lyrically, Kujo and T-Mo are subpar and forgettable. IMO.
