Socially-conscious lyrics and beats will not be the only things included with Paris’ upcoming album Acid Reflex.
The Bay Area rapper/activist will offer a chance for fans to win a $10,000 award after purchasing the CD in stores or online.
The award will be redeemable as a scholarship towards a post-high school education or housing expenses after purchasing the release in stores or online.
The contest will center around three randomly placed tickets that can be found in copies of Acid Reflex.
Winners will be notified after opening the CD via a message stating “Congratulations! You’ve won $10,000 for either school expenses or housing!” as well as details for claiming the prize.
Non-winning CD packages will not contain notification of any kind.
The chance to make life easier for students amid rising prices across the board served as a motivator for Paris, who could relate to those struggling to maintain a normal way of life in spite of the tight economy.
“We’re living in the hardest economic times in recent memory, and this is a perfect way for me to try to ease the pain for my supporters,” the rapper told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “I realize that money is tight for many people and that music is becoming less and less of a priority when everything is rising but wages. This is not only a perfect way for me to express my gratitude to those who continue to support me, but to emphasize both the importance of higher education and the need to continue to support art of substance.”
Paris’ Guerrilla Funk Recordings is preparing to release Acid Reflex, which is slated to hit stores Oct. 28.
The album will feature appearances from Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Parliament/Funkadelic frontman George Clinton, in addition to Public Enemy leader Chuck D.
Among the topics addressed are black-on-black crime and violence, police brutality and war as well as politics and what Paris calls “the need for more of an equal balance between positive and negative influences in entertainment.”
