WAKA SAYS “I CAN’T BLAME THE KIDS”; PARENTS OF EXPELLED FRAT MEMBER OFFER APOLOGY

(AllHipHop News) Waka Flocka Flame was scheduled to perform at the University Of Oklahoma next month, but the Atlanta resident announced he would not be performing after video of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity members singing a racist song emerged online. CNN’s Brianna Keilar interviewed Waka about his decision to pull out from his show date at OU. He spoke about his initial reaction to seeing the footage of the fraternity members chanting, “there will never be a n****r in SAE.”

“I was more hurt, more disgusted, because I knew those kids. I performed for those kids. They made me feel like a brother,” said Waka. “Just to see what a person does behind closed doors is disgusting. I wasn’t angry. I was just disgusted.”

Waka performed for the University Of Oklahoma SAE chapter last year. The “O Let’s Do It” rapper expressed he never felt any racial discrimination from the frat at that time.

“I really can’t blame the kids. That’s passed down,” Waka added.

The university has kicked SAE from the campus and expelled members Parker Rice and Levi Pettit. The family of Pettit and Rice have issued apologies.

“We were as shocked and saddened by this news as anyone,” stated Brody and Susan Pettit. “Of course, we are sad for our son, but more importantly, we apologize to the community he has hurt. We would also like to apologize to the entire African American community, University of Oklahoma student body and administration.”

Rice said, “I am deeply sorry for what I did Saturday night. It was wrong and reckless. I made a horrible mistake by joining into the singing and encouraging others to do the same,” he said.
