Jay sat down with Kimmel to talk about battling fellow BK emcee Busta Rhymes in high school and the changes taking place in his home borough. The conversation included a discussion about the Tidal streaming service as well.
“It’s better. It’s better sound. It’s better everything,” said Jay about Tidal’s lossless audio compared to its competitors. “They want people to believe that you don’t care about sound and quality.”
He added, “Just think of it like a big jukebox… This way you put $9 in and you get 30 million songs. And you can take the jukebox and put it in your pocket.”
The Blueprint album creator was also asked about taking on the task of being a sports agent with Roc Nation Sports. According to Hov, the people off the field are obligated to help prevent the financial failings of the sports stars they sign.
“No one ever talks about the agent. [It’s just,] ‘the dumb athlete.’ The agent goes on about their business,” stated Jay. “But it’s also the agent’s responsibility to take care of these kids.”
Jimmy Kimmel Live also aired Jay’s performance of “Empire State Of Mind” from the TIDAL X: 1020 event at the Barclays Center. Jay Z closed out the concert that also featured Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Usher, Nas, Rick Ross, Meek Mill, T.I., and many more.
