Stars Heat Up The Hot 97 Summer Jam 2016 Stage [RECAP]

HOT 97 DID IT AGAIN!

Despite weather conditions and performance cancellations, Summer Jam was a party in Met Life Stadium on Sunday.

The cancellation of the festival stage devastated some fans but concert goers did not let a flooded parking lot stop their party.  Fans quickly found shelter under tents and inside cars as everyone patiently waited for the storm to pass.  Once it did, the aisles of the lot filled with hip hop fans blasting music and tailgating waiting for the main stage to start.

Maino opened the main stage repping Brooklyn with his hit, “Harder Than Them”. But the crowd went wild when the highly anticipated G.O.O.D Music set came up next.  Entering the stage in a diamond formation, the crew kicked their set off with their latest single “Champions” off the rumored Cruel Winter collab album. Pusha T, Big Sean, Desiigner, TRavi$ Scott, 2 Chainz and Yeezy himself all bounced around the stage to their G.O.O.D Music hits like “Famous,” Antidote,” “I Don’t Like,” “Watch Out,” and “IDFWU.”  Before they left the stage, the crew made sure to their the newest and youngest member of the G.O.O.D team, Desiigner get his shine as the entire stadium went off to the smash hit “Panda.”

Bryson Tiller had the crowd vibing to his Trap Soul hits and even brought out Brooklyn’s own Fabolous for the “Sorry Not Sorry” remix.  Tiller took a moment to share his gratitude for being able to perform in venues like MetLife only a year after living a “regular life.”

The Terror Squad Reunion had the crowd “All The Way Up” and included dancers, Remy Ma & Fat Joe classics, and an appearance by Ashanti’s cake.  She came through and showed off her summer body as they all jammed to “What’s Love”.

After a slight hold up in the show due to a fight in the crowd, ASAP Rocky and ASAP Ferg got the party started again.  DJ Khaled brought out Rick Ross and Movado during his set and left the crowd with hints as to what could be on his upcoming album.

Unfortunately, Future was unable to perform due to time constraints. It was rumored that he would be joining Kanye West in a free concert at Webster Hall following Summer Jam, but that did not happen either. Due to the cancellation of the festival stage artists like Chance The Rapper, Dave East, and Tory Lanez were unable to perform as well.

Hot 97 did the best they could given the many circumstances that were out of their control. And despite the weather and late start, the concert still went on. Not many events, especially those pertaining to Hip Hop have been in the MetLife stadium until that late.

Overall it was a great show, packed crowd, and great night of Hip Hop.
