I am absolutely in love with Ms. Alicia Keys, which is why it pains me to write this, but it must be done. After hearing and reading about Alicia Keys comments in Blender Magazine regarding the inception of gangsta rap and ideas that Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G.s slayings were fueled by “the government and the media, to stop another great Black leader from existing, I couldnt help but think: Really Alicia?Alicia claims her comments were misconstrued, but for all intents and purposes, lets say they were true My second thought after reading the comments was Oh my God, shes on drugs! People, weve seen thos before crazy outbursts like these which seem to appear out of nowhere usually signal the beginning of the end. For those who dont agree, I have two words: Whitney Houston. I am by no means saying that Alicias comments are untrue or that they have no merit. I am simply saying that there are few things that would compel a half white, multi-platinum selling artist at the top of her game (who has up until now seemed media trained to perfection) to make such explosive comments. One of those things could definitely be drugs. Im just saying .I couldnt also help but wonder, as she was channeling Malcolm X during the interview, did she simply forget to mention her new mini series on MTV which airs during the commercial breaks of The Hills, which has to be the whitest show in America? I cant even remember seeing Black waiters on that show. (Not that I watch when it comes on Mondays at 10 PM on MTV) If you really want to change things Alicia, tell them to give Heidi Montag a Black love interest on the show. And he has to be the Blackest Black person ever. May I suggest Flava Flav?My next thought was, Alicia shut the f**k up! I dont need this right now. Music is in a state of turmoil record sales keep declining, white girls are rapping, and even worse Paula Abdul is singing again. We need you Alicia! You are a ray of shining light in these troubled times. Please dont mess that up by opening your biscuit eater and spewing out your conspiracy theory crap. If you want to know how getting political will affect your career please pick up a phone and call Nas, The Dixie Chicks, Lauryn Hill or find one of those guys with incense and a dirty knapsack and ask them about the nobodies they are blasting on their iPods!
