Wichita, Kansas rapper XV has released a new mixtape, Popular Culture, and on the project, he takes his own stab at some of your favorite, current hit songs.
Fans of XV can look forward to his renditions of the West Coast’s Kendrick Lamar and Dr. Dre on “The Recipe” (his is called “Stone Cold”) and Southern up-and-comer Ca$h Out’s “Cashin’ Out” (for XV, it’s “Tappin’ Out”). XV also called on ScHoolBoy Q for features on the tracks, “Be There, Be Square” and “AaaHH! Real Monsters”.
The Warner Bros. standout has been hitting the studio hard over the past few months since his talked-about performances at South By Southwest and across the country. Next up on June 26 is the release of his five-track The Awesome EP, which can be pre-ordered on iTunes now.
“I haven’t released anything for purchase since 2006 where I was independently selling albums out of my backpack,” says XV. “But even then, I’ve never released anything with a barcode. I wanted to create a project that brings in all the core fans and all the new fans I’ve gained. It’s an awesome EP that is pre-gaming everybody for the debut.”
