The Heineken Red Star Soul Event hit Philadelphia with the bang of a Hip-Hop meteor by bringing some of the genre’s finest artists to the Electric Factory this past weekend.
Artists such as Wale, Nas, and Freeway were in the building. Not to mention, the legendary Q-Tip the Abstract was on the turntables, while comedian/actor Affion Crockett played host for the evening.
Leading the performances was MMG’s own Wale with his single “Lotus Flower Bomb”. Wale shocked the crowd bringing Philly’s own Freeway out for a impromptu performance of “What We Do”. Before exiting the stage, Wale had to perform his verse on “No Hands”.
Nas rocked the crowd with a set including songs “One Mic” and “NY State of Mind”, as well as some new cuts from his latest disc, Life Is Good. Along with his DJ Green Lantern, the rapper/actor/father/ connected with the crowd giving a mini concert in preparation of his return with Lauryn Hill on November 7.
The Heineken Red Star Access is an annual showcase of music’s hottest and freshest experiences nationwide. The tour kicked off in Chicago with performances by Nas and Pusha T, followed by stops in Atlanta with Trey Songz and Kendrick Lamar, D.C. with B.o.B., and New York City with Wiz Khalifa and French Montana.
