(AllHipHop Features) For over ten years, the BET Hip Hop Awards has remained the most powerful and prominent award show for Hip Hop music.
With iconic honorees, electrifying performances, action-packed surprises, and highly-anticipated cyphers, the 14th annual BET Hip Hop Awards returned to the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, Georgia with Lil Duval as the host.
Hip Hop heavyweights and rising stars hit the Sprite green carpet eager to share information on their newest projects as well as their excitement for the evening’s performances and cyphers.
This year’s show saw performances from Rick Ross, Chance The Rapper, Da Baby, Megan Thee Stallion, YBN Cordae & Anderson Paak, Saweetie, Lil Jon & Petey Pablo, Rapsody, Lil Baby, Offset and the living legend Lil Kim.
Rick Ross gave an energetic performance that featured a medley of some of his hits such as “Hustlin’,” “BMF,” “Stay Schemin,’” and “Big Time.”
Rick Ross also presented Lil Kim with the ‘I Am Hip Hop’ Icon award.
Legends and veterans such as Missy Elliott, Mary J. Blige, and Swizz Beats, appeared in a video montage as they celebrated the iconic rap Queen.
Before the action-packed show, AllHipHop had an opportunity to chat with Rick Ross about his future film endeavors as well as his respect and admiration for Lil Kim.
AllHipHop: What’s next for Ross? I know you are performing tonight, but what else is next?
Rick Ross: Ah man, I’m just enjoying the night, but other than that we gonna get into the film business, double M is going to get into the film business.
AllHipHop: Lil Kim is being honored tonight. What’s your favorite Lil Kim record, moment, or verse?
Rick Ross: Yo, she was the right hand to B.I.G., so I got so many of those. I got so many records, so many verses. And you know B.I.G. was my favorite so, Lil Kim was not just a female, she wasn’t just a black young lady that was incredible. She was a real boss that carried her own weight. After we lost B.I.G. Kim was, and still is significant in the game as ever.
The 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards will air on BET tonight, Tuesday, October 8 at 8:00pm EST.
