(AllHipHop News) Smif-N-Wessun, briefly known as the Cocoa Brothaz, had a crazy 1996 that involved lost changed identities and cigarette smoking prevention. At Cipha Sounds’ Take It Personal Hip Hop improv show, the legendary duo spoke on their infamous name change in 1996 and how they tried to stop 2pac from smoking.
In 1996, Smif-N-Wessun(along with rest of Boot Camp Click) recorded an album entitled One Nation with 2Pac and according to Tek, he employed a few methods to stop ‘Pac from smoking cigarettes. 1996 also marked the year the group had to change their name to Cocoa Brothaz after a legal dispute with arms manufacturer Smith & Wesson for quite a hilarious reason according to Tek:
They were actually suing us. They said we were confusing the consumer of buying guns and buying CD’s.
UCB actors Phil Jackson, Lydia Hensler and Sean Diston took that and turned it into a hilarious scenario involving an interesting armed robbery.
Cipha Sounds’ Take It Personal Hip Hop Improv show is every Friday at 9pm at 153 E 3rd St.
