Drake Gives Up Meat And Ends Up In “Beef” With PETA
(AllHipHop News) Rap superstar Drake is under pressure to cut ties with outerwear brand Canada Goose after becoming a new vegetarian.
The “God’s Plan” hitmaker has been collaborating with designers at the company for his October’s Very Own (OVO) merchandise label since 2011, but now officials at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have called on Drake to end the partnership, especially after revealing he has cut meat from his diet.
The Canadian MC made the admission during a live-streamed video game session last week, although he didn’t elaborate on his reasons for giving up meat.
And now animal rights activists are urging the star to reconsider his dealings with Canada Goose bosses, who claim their products are made with “ethically sourced fur and down,” that is procured without causing animals “undue pain, injury or suffering” – statements PETA investigators have long challenged.
To draw attention to the controversial subject matter, PETA officials have sent a vegan goodie basket to the rapper in the hopes of winning him over.
“We’re so happy that your animal-friendly eating is making headlines, and we wanted to send you a little something to ensure that you take care and thrive forever with a healthy, compassionate plant-based lifestyle…,” they write in an accompanying letter.
It continues, “Since you’ve made the great, kind, and forward-thinking choice not to eat animals, please, please, please, take one more step: Stop wearing them, and end October’s Very Own’s partnership with cruel company Canada Goose immediately.
“Canada Goose touts a fake love for the environment yet kills ducks and geese for their down and uses painful steel traps to catch wild coyotes, who pray to make it back in one piece to their families but instead suffer and are killed in horrible ways so that their fur can go around someone’s neck. This senseless violence for the sake of a jacket is definitely not part of God’s Plan.”
“Please, find your heart, because fur is over and animals need your love,” the message concludes.
Drake has yet to respond to the public pleeaaa.

Jaden Smith Launches New Line Of Jeans
(AllHipHop News) Actor and rapper Jaden Smith is following in Pharrell Williams’ footsteps by becoming the latest celebrity G-Star Raw ambassador.
The 19-year-old has partnered with the clothing company for a line of sustainable denim this autumn.
In a statement, Will Smith’s son shared his excitement over the new collection and the impact he plans to make on the fashion world.
“What G-Star has been doing with sustainable innovation recently has been so inspiring, especially with the launch of their most sustainable jeans ever. They are at the forefront of denim sustainability, on top of the denim game,” Smith said. “G-Star is a great place for me to collaborate, learn, and make a positive impact on denim and fashion.”
The eco-friendly brand’s Chief Marketing Officer Thecla Schaeffer echoed Smith’s statement, noting his unique level of creativity has impacted the worlds of music and design.

Rapper Juelz Santana’s Detention Hearing Delayed
(AllHipHop News) Rapper Juelz Santana’s detention hearing has reportedly been postponed over jurisdictional issues.
The rapper, real name LaRon James, became a wanted man after fleeing Newark International Airport in New Jersey earlier this month when a loaded firearm was allegedly discovered in his bag at a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoint.
He was also booked for unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of drugs.
James has pleaded not guilty to two of the weapons charges and the drug count.
A detention hearing was scheduled for Monday, but it has been postponed to give court officials time to decide in which jurisdiction the case will be held.
According to reports, the hearing will most likely take place later this week.

Pharrell Williams Flipped Work Schedule To Tend To His Triplets
(AllHipHop News) Pharrell Williams starts work in the early hours of the morning in order to spend time with his infant triplets, according to collaborator Charlie Puth.
Pharrell and his wife Helen Lasichanh’s family grew by three in January, 2017, when they were blessed with the triplets.
The musician’s growing brood hasn’t stopped him working however, and Charlie, who enlisted the N.E.R.D star to help him record his new album Voicenotes, said he’s been forced to work in the early hours to ensure Pharrell can spend time with his family.
“Me and Pharrell work at like six o’clock in the morning,” he explained to Britain’s Daily Star newspaper. “I finally asked him: ‘Why are we working at like six o’clock?’ and he says, ‘Because I have triplets and I need to spend the day with them.'”
The “Happy” singer, 44, and Helen, who also share nine-year-old son Rocket, have yet to publicly announce the sex or names of their new arrivals, but he did open up about the trials and tribulations of being a father to triplets last year.
“I have a tribe,” Pharrell told U.S. news show Today. “It’s an assembly line … they harmonize (when they cry). It’s ‘Waah! Waah! Waah!’ all at the same time. Like one cries, the next one cries, the next one cries. They’re hungry, they’re hungry, they’re hungry.”
In the interview, he also confessed that his parenting skills were nothing compared to his wife’s.
“My wife is (U.S. Navy special forces) SEAL Team Six,” he said of her abilities as a mom. “There’s nothing she can’t do. I mean, she carried those three bodies, and she’s just on it all the time. And we do have some amazing people to help us.”
In addition to helping Charlie out with his second record, Pharrell and N.E.R.D also released their latest album, No One Ever Really Dies, in December.
A new remix of the album’s lead single Lemon, adding Drake’s vocals to those of Rihanna, who featured on the original, debuted over the weekend.

Meek Mill’s Attorneys Take His Case To Supreme Court
(AllHipHop News) Attorneys for incarcerated rapper Meek Mill have appealed to Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court officials to grant him bail as he fights his probation violation sentence.
Documents were filed in the state’s highest court on yesterday (March 19) requesting the release of the hip-hop star, who was ordered to serve two to four years behind bars in November of 2017 for violating the terms of his probation relating to a 2008 firearms case.
The decision emerged amid reports suggesting the arresting officer in Meek’s original 2008 case had been named as part of a huge police corruption scandal in Philadelphia and had been accused of lying under oath to put the MC in jail.
Prosecutors cited the “strong showing of likelihood” that Meek’s old conviction will be reversed in court paperwork explaining the move on March 14, and the rapper’s attorneys highlighted the statement as they asked for their client’s immediate release.
They also listed the numerous allegations against Graham relating to other cases to back up their argument, including claims suggesting he stole money from a crime scene and performed poorly on a polygraph test.
The “Dreams and Nightmares” star has yet to comment on the Supreme Court filing, but in his first prison interview with Rolling Stone magazine, published last week, he revealed plans to use his experience to campaign for others who may have been unfairly treated by the justice system upon his release.
“There’s brothers locked down that did nothing to be here but p### off people like (Judge Genece) Brinkley,” he said. “I want to speak on this system and what it does to black people – on both f##king sides of the fence.”
Little Brother’s Phonte Talks Influencing Drake & Kendrick Lamar
(AllHipHop News) Little Brother may not have ever reached mainstream status, but the North Carolina trio was still very influential in Hip Hop circles. While speaking with Ebro Darden for Beats 1 Radio, LB founding member Phonte talked about how their musical style impacted modern Hip Hop chart toppers.
“I definitely think we’re an influence on a lot of guys coming out like Drake and Kendrick [Lamar], because they told me so,” said Phonte.
Drake’s 2007 mixtape Comeback Season includes “Think Good Thoughts” featuring Phonte as well as “Don’t U Have A Man” featuring Little Brother. Phonte also told Ebro, “We did a couple of records together in his early days. He told me at that time, ‘Yo, you’re a huge influence on me.'”
Little Brother released four studio LPs between 2003 and 2010 including the underground classic The Minstrel Show. Phonte, Big Pooh, and 9th Wonder eventually disbanded as a group.
Phonte dropped his debut solo album Charity Starts At Home in 2011, and he spent years crafting projects as part of The Foreign Exchange with Dutch producer Nicolay. The rapper/singer released his latest solo effort No News Is Good News on March 2.
“I never wanted to rap something I couldn’t live. That’s just my driving force. If I can’t live it, I ain’t gonna rhyme it,” explained Phonte. “You have to talk about things that you know. I feel like if I write something and you can listen to my album and hear yourself in a piece of it, then I’ve done my job as an artist.”

Yonkers rapper Iman drops the visual for “Days of Our Lives” for anyone looking for a breath of fresh air. Surrounded by his neighborhood crew, the self-proclaimed “good kid with an attitude” sets his sights on making a serious mark in the music scene. The video, directed by Joe Puma, is the latest offering from his project Blessed*,* which was released at the opening of 2018.
‘Beyond The Streets’ Graffiti & Street Art Exhibition Set To Hit L.A.
(AllHipHop News) One of the original elements of Hip Hop is getting its own multimedia showcase in Los Angeles. Author/historian Roger Gastman is curating Beyond The Streets which features graffiti and street art from over 100 artists presented in 40,000+ sq ft of industrial indoor and outdoor space.
Installations will include:
- Large-scale graphic banners from renowned feminist activist artist collective Guerrilla Girls
- Full-size, playable handball court complete with site-specific artwork by famed NYC artist Lee Quiñones, drawing inspiration from his lion mural in 1982
- 40′ x 20′ double-sided painting by Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, circularly hung so viewers can walk inside and be surrounded by the artwork
- FAILE’s Temple, a highly interactive, life-size construction of ceramic, steel, mosaics and prayer wheels that re-conceives historical references from sacred structures and invites play and contemplation from the audience
Other creators submitting work for the exhibit include Shepard Fairey, Jason REVOK, FUTURA 2000, LADY PINK, INVADER, HAZE, SWOON, Guerrilla Girls, Barry McGee, Stephen Powers, CHAZ, FAILE, Kenny Scharf, Dash Snow, Jenny Holzer, C.R. Stecyk III, Felipe Pantone, Maripol, RETNA, Gordon Matta-Clark, Martha Cooper, TAKI 183 plus Dennis Hopper, and Mark Mothersbaugh.
Beyond The Streets will also offer performances, lectures, and films. Thanks to a BTS partnership with STOKED Mentoring and adidas Skateboarding, some local young people will get to take part in educational workshops.
A gift shop will host limited-edition prints, books, and collectibles, including a capsule collection developed with adidas Skateboarding, artist-edition Montana Colors spray paint cans featuring Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat, and limited-edition Shepard Fairey fiberglass chairs by Modernica. According to its mission statement, BTS is “not intended to be a historical retrospective but rather an examination of cultural outlaws who embody the spirit of the graffiti and street art culture.”
Additional curation was coordinated by Juxtapoz Editor-in-Chief Evan Pricco, author/historian Caleb Neelon, and NYC graffiti writer David “CHINO” Villorente. MCA Denver director Adam Lerner served as a curatorial advisor, and Ian Mazie produced the exhibition.

Netflix Releases A Trailer For Rapsody’s ‘Rapture’ Docuseries Episode
(AllHipHop News) This month will end with Netflix presenting its new docuseries Rapture. The show follows notable Hip Hop representatives Nas, T.I., Dave East, 2 Chainz, Logic, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Just Blaze, and G-Eazy.
North Carolina-bred emcee Rapsody is also a central figure on one of the episodes. A trailer for the Laila’s Wisdom album creator’s chapter has been uploaded to YouTube.
“My goal is to be one of the best rappers ever,” says Rapsody in the clip. She also discusses the obstacles female rappers face in a male-dominated industry.
Rapture is scheduled to begin streaming via Netflix on March 30. The Mass Appeal-produced program dives into each of the artists’ lives.
Fetty Wap Becomes A Father For Seventh Time
(AllHipHop News) Fetty Wap has become a father for the seventh time, after welcoming a son into the world.
Lezhae Zeona, who already shares young daughter Zaviera with the rapper, posted a video on her Instagram Live in which she was seen cradling her newborn son.
The footage showed the little boy wrapped in a blue and white blanket as his mother kissed him tenderly on the forehead.
Fetty has yet to comment on the new arrival on his own social media accounts.
Alayia remains in hospital as she was born three months early.
She’s still using a feeding tube and requires help breathing, but Alexis told fans on Twitter that her little girl will hopefully be allowed home in the near future.
“I swear being your mother is the best thing that happen to me the countdown begins,” she tweeted as news of Fetty’s latest arrival broke alongside a picture of herself holding the baby girl.
Prior to the birth, Alexis had shared video footage of the pair in her hospital room on social media, explaining she had been experiencing mild contractions but had not gone into labor at the time of the post.
“My water did break, so I had to get rushed to the hospital and stuff…,” she said. “They’re gonna have me in the hospital for a long time, so I’m just praying that everything’s OK and she’s fine.
“She’s gonna be a premie (premature baby), but she’s healthy, that’s all that matters to me.”
Fetty is also father to son Aydin and daughters Khari, Amani, and Lauren.
