(AllHipHop News) Rae Sremmurd took a bold step by deciding to release a triple album. SremmLife 3 is split into three parts – Swae Lee’s Swaecation, Slim Jxmmi’s Jxmtroduction, and the brothers’ joint project.

Billboard caught up with Rae Sremmurd to talk about the forthcoming collection. One half of the duo is confident that the new songs represent their highest level of artistry.

“It’s the best music we’ve ever made. Of course we’ve still got SremmLife 1 and 2 flavor, but we’re giving y’all sh-t y’all never heard from Rae Sremmurd before,” stated Swae Lee. “It’s just gonna be a surprise – every song you hear you’re gonna be like, “Damn, what the f-ck?”

Mike Will Made It and EarDrummers tackled a lot of the production on SremmLife 3. Previously, Mike Will revealed the 3-disc idea was inspired by the 2003 OutKast double LP Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.

Jxmmi stated about the triple-set concept, “We wanted to give y’all something different because it’s one side saying, ‘Man, this person should go solo,’ so why don’t we just end the argument and give it to you, and then give you Rae Sremmurd so you can see why we are Rae Sremmurd and who we are as individuals.”

Last week, Rae Sremmurd dropped three songs from SremmLife 3 – “Hurt To Look” by Swae Lee, “Brxnks Truck” by Slim Jxmmi, and “Powerglide” by both artists. The native Mississippians also announced they are heading on tour with Childish Gambino later this year.

(AllHipHop News) In recent years, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson has dived deeply into the film world. The Queens representative starred in the 2018 heist flick Den of Thieves and is set to appear in Escape Plan 2: Hades.

Tory Lanez is also supposedly working on a movie with 50 Cent. The singer/rapper spoke with Beats 1’s Ebro about I Told You Memories Don’t Die which is said to be based on the stories from Tory’s two studio albums I Told You and Memories Don’t Die.

“It’s not gonna have any music videos in it,” explained Lanez. “Everyone’s doing these random ‘short films’ for their albums all of a sudden which I kind of feel like a lot of people are biting from me.”

He added, “This is a full-on 45 to 50-minute short film. That area is where we’re aiming for. I’m doing a real feature film, not a rap video or a musical.”

(AllHipHop News) It’s been a rough week in the media for Lil Xan. The rapper born Diego Leanos had a somewhat challenging interview with Hot 97, and now the 21-year-old is catching heat for comments he made last month about Tupac Shakur.

During an interview with Revolt, the California native ranked 2Pac at 2/9 and called the icon’s music “boring.” That opinion led to Atlanta rhymer Waka Flocka Flame kicking Xan out of the culture.

“LiL Xan banned from hip hop,” tweeted Waka. “Pac help me get thru childhood!!! Sh-t hurt to see the youth disrespect man that paved the way for all of us literally… I hope nobody overlook [my] accomplishments when I leave.”

This controversy comes after Xan announced he would no longer being doing interviews. He posted on Twitter, “I love my fans to death but I can’t let these companies keep taking advantage of me and using me to further there [sic] sh-t, it’s f-cked.”

(AllHipHop News) “Black Panther’s” record-breaking earnings have helped push the North American box office over $1 billion for the first time in the month of February.

The superhero film, which stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, and Lupita Nyong’o, earned $428.8 million in the U.S. and Canada in February.

“Fifty Shades Freed,” “Peter Rabbit,” “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,” and “The Greatest Showman” have also helped propel box office sales.

Director Ryan Coogler’s Marvel movie has topped the North American box office for three weeks in a row and over the weekend it blasted past $500 million at the North American box office after grossing $65.7 million.

“Black Panther” also owns the third-best third weekend ever at the domestic box office, behind “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “Avatar.”

The film is showing no signs of slowing down and last month, Coogler wrote an open letter to moviegoers and fans, thanking them for their support.

“I am struggling to find the words to express my gratitude at this moment, but I will try,” he wrote in the note, which was shared on Marvel Studios’ Instagram page. “Never in a million years did we imagine that you all would come out this strong.

Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s son Young Dirty is taking his father’s estate into the 21st century, with the launch of the “Dirty Coin.”

Young Dirty has teamed with Link Media Partners, a business development and marketing services firm for the music industry to release the ‘Dirty Coin’, a cryptocurrency and blockchain technology-based products for the Estate’s future music projects.

The Dirty Coin’s official symbol is ODB and will be traded on AltMarket and will give fans access to exclusive merchandise, and music from the late Wu-Tang Clan rapper as well as his progeny.

The first project Dirty’s Estate hopes to fund will be a new release from Young Dirty, born Barsun Jones.

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Youngboy Never Broke Again could be heading to jail for the next decade.

The Assistant District Attorney in Baton Rogue recently filed documents saying YoungBoy Never Broke Again is “a threat to society and the safety of others.”

Prosecutors are attempting to revoke the 10 years supervised probation his was placed on, stemming from a drive-by shooting in December of 2016.

The hip-hop star, real name Kentrell Gaulden, was detained in Tallahassee, Florida on February 24.

Cops consequently discovered he was a fugitive from justice in Georgia for alleged assault, weapons violations, and kidnapping.

Youngboy Never Broke Again has since been transferred to Georgia’s Ware County Jail and is being held without bail.

According to reports Gaulden’s arrest stems from an alleged altercation with his girlfriend Jania.

“This contradicts the court’s intentions of having the defendant speak out against the promotion of violence in rap music and, furthermore, the objectification of women in rap music and by rap artists,” prosecutors said in documents.

A probation revocation hearing is slated for May 18.

The singer and his partner, who spent nearly 10 years together and wed in 2015, released a joint statement confirming the end of their relationship on Tuesday (March 6), insisting they plan to move forward as friends.

“After much thought and consideration we have mutually decided to separate as a couple,” the statement reads. “We remain deeply connected, loving friends who will continue supporting each other through the next phases of our lives.
“The enormous amount of love and respect that we have for each other will only increase as we move forward.”

The couple eloped and quietly wed in September 2015 during a vacation in Cuba. Insiders claim Usher and Grace separated at the beginning of 2018.

They started dating in 2009, shortly after Usher split from his first wife, Tameka Foster, the mother of his sons Usher Raymond V and Naviyd Ely.

The “U Remind Me” hitmaker and stylist Foster were also married for just over two years, from August 2007 to November 2009.

Usher hit the headlines earlier this week when he opened up about a new neck tattoo, created by top skin artist Brian ‘Doctor’ Woo.

Sharing a video of the new ink on Instagram over the weekend, he wrote: “new era//new ink ft. @dr_woo.”

(AllHipHop News) A crowd-funded documentary aims to give light to the writers and journalists that have documented the culture of Hip-Hop through the years.

Journalist and film maker Syreeta Gates has three more days to meet her ultimate goal of $30,000 to get the documentary funded by those that support the vision of “Write On! The Legend of Hip-Hop’s Ink Slingers.”

The project must hit a that goal by Fri, March 9 2018 11:01 PM eastern standard time, according to the site.

Gates explained in a statement what prompted her to initiate this weighty project.

“A few years ago, I was the Editor-in-Chief of an online hip-hop publication and realized that I didn’t know any of the journalists. My mental at the time matched a few names with faces, but there wasn’t substantial information about these people to be found. I went to Google and practically fell down a rabbit hole trying to find out more information about the people behind the pen. Things like, what they looked like, what they sounded like or why they started writing in the first place. I had so many questions about them personally and about their love for hip-hop. But unfortunately I couldn’t find anything online.This led me on my own journey to start collecting magazines. I was born in some say the greatest year of hip-hop, 1988, so with that said it wasn’t like I was reading Rap Pages or Stress Magazine. I wasn’t buying those magazines back then, but I do remember seeing them around when I visited my uncles and cousins, because that’s what they were reading. And that’s when hip-hop chose me, I didn’t really have a choice.”

At the time of this writing, the project had raised $22,491.

Gates has already conducted about 33 interviews that include scribes like Minya “Miss Info” Oh, Miles Marshall Lewis, Elliot Wilson and others. She will be working with journalist, author and former AllHipHop editor Kathy Iandoli, the screenwriter. She said the support is needed for music rights and other clearances.

Continuing, Gates said that the writers and scribes held a unique, dual role in the annals of Hip-Hop as history and also historians.

“These journalists captured so much history and information with their pens and pads. They had connections to musical history that my generation would never understand, but would want to,” she said. “They grew up with people who would become legends. And they too would be legends in their own right. They grew up with Hip-Hop.”

Writing in Hip-Hop is often thankless work, a notion that Gates said further inspired her to forge ahead with her plans.

“Fast forward to today, and this documentary serves as a digital thank you letter to the original historians and ghostwriters of hip-hop as we know it. What we know and love of Hip-Hop comes from the pens of people who dared to give a voice to a culture most thought wouldn’t last. These journalist defied the odds, and the more I said their names and shared their work on social media, these journalists literally started showing up for me. I started interacting with them online and in person, and one by one they said yes to my idea and convinced their peers to say yes as well. I was grateful and surprised by every yes because I knew they were counting on me, even with my limited experience, to tell their stories and get it right.”

(AllHipHop News) Jazz veteran Herbie Hancock has teased new collaborations with rappers Kendrick Lamar, Common, and Snoop Dogg to give his forthcoming album an eclectic hip-hop vibe.

The musician is working on his first studio release in eight years, and the project will be a unique affair, mixing jazz and funk with rap, but Hancock reveals he’s learning about more than just what’s hot in the modern music scene from his younger collaborators.

“I’m learning a lot from the young people I’m working with,” he told the San Diego Tribune of his new material. “Because they built the new structures, social media, and that whole arena, and that affects how you get things out in front of the public to let them know you’re working on something.”

Hancock has enlisted the services of saxophonist and keyboard player Terrace Martin to produce the as-yet-untitled album, as he previously worked with both Kendrick and Snoop.

It won’t be the first time Hancock has teamed up with artists of different generations – his 2010 duets release, The Imagine Project, featured performances from the likes of John Legend, Pink, Juanes, and James Morrison.

(AllHipHop News) Mary J. Blige has reportedly reached a settlement with her estranged husband in their contentious divorce battle.

The R&B superstar has been fighting Martin “Kendu” Isaacs, her former manager, over finances ever since filing court papers to end their 12-year marriage in July 2016.

Last summer, Blige was ordered to pay her ex $30,000-a-month in temporary spousal support, but Isaacs had been trying to get the figure bumped up to $65,000 since October, claiming he is close to becoming “destitute” after failing to find work since the couple’s separation.

He also accused the “No More Drama” hitmaker of making things worse for him by singing about their marital breakdown on recent tracks, like “Love Yourself” and “Set Me Free,” from her album “Strength of a Woman.”

The judge overseeing the former couple’s case shot down Isaacs’ bid for more cash in the autumn, but the couple has now reached an undisclosed agreement.

According to reports, the former couple was due in court on Monday but settled two days before Blige attended and performed at the Academy Awards.

The singer was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for “Mudbound” and Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures for “Mighty River.”

She didn’t win any accolades, but she reportedly ended her night at a party thrown by friends Jay-Z and Beyonce at the Chateau Marmont.

“The fam is doing something big for us tonight,” she said before the awards ceremony. “All this love, it’s so beautiful. I feel blessed… I feel really blessed to have people care about me that much. I care about them that much and it just feels really good.”

Meanwhile, Blige previously protested having to pay Isaacs temporary spousal support, after accusing him of being unfaithful during their marriage.

She even offered to personally cover a massive $11 million debt the pair owed if the judge agreed to end her spousal support payments.

Stevie J will surrender to authorities in New York, for allegedly ignoring court-ordered child support payments.

Stevie J didn’t help the issue when he failing multiple drug tests in January of last year.

The super-producer owes the money to his ex, Carol Bennett.

Carol Bennett is a retired music-industry executive, who sued Stevie under the 1992 Child Support Recovery Act.

The law declares it unlawful for someone to leave any state in the U.S., owing over than $10,000 worth of child support, for more than two years.

The reality show star is facing at least six months in prison for the debt, which has ballooned to over $1,300,000.

Keiotia Watson, who claims her son Dwayne is the product of a fling she had with the “Lollipop” hitmaker in 2001, first filed documents to establish paternity and pick up child support in 2015.

Wayne has denied having a sexual relationship with her.

A Louisiana judge ruled in her favor and ordered the rap star to hand over $5,000, but he has paid nothing, claiming he was never served with legal papers.

The previous judgment was tossed and a new trial has been ordered, according to reports.

If Dwayne is the star’s son, he will be his fifth child.

Wayne has four kids with four different women.

The Atlanta group were performing in Albany, New York in 2015 and things started to go bad before the trio even hit the stage.

Promoters claim the group showed up an hour late for the concert and smelled like liquor and weed.

The group finally hit the stage in front of an irritated crowd, which exploded when they guys refused to honor a meet-and-greet event which fans had pre-purchased.

Migos is accused of egging the hostile crowd on, resulting in one patron suffering from stab wounds, while others were “robbed, beaten, severely harmed, and injured.”

(AllHipHop News) Rick Ross has postponed his daughter’s ‘Sweet 16’ birthday party following his hospitalization for a heart-related health issue.

The “Stay Schemin'” hitmaker was reportedly admitted to a Miami area medical center on Thursday (March 1) after an assistant found him unresponsive, drooling, and breathing heavily and called emergency services.

Reports suggested Rozay suffered a heart-related health crisis and was hooked up to a machine that assists respiratory functions.

Although the rapper was discharged on Monday, his ill health prompted his family to postpone the lavish Sweet 16 birthday party planned for his daughter Toie.

The 42-year-old rapper had reportedly booked Miami’s The Villa, Casa Casuarina, the former Versace Mansion where late designer Gianni was murdered in 1997, nearly seven months ago for Toie’s $100,000 party.

However, family members reportedly decided to postpone the party, which was scheduled to take place on March 17, as they were uncertain how long he would be hospitalized for.

According to TMZ, his condition was so serious at one point that he was transferred to a second hospital that specialized in his ailment.

Rick, real name William Leonard Roberts II, is known for throwing elaborate parties for his eldest child, with performers like Rich Homie Quan, Trina, Meek Mill and Ace Hood in attendance.

“Why is [Albert] Einstein a genius? Because he understood how to express a really, really complex idea… E=mc2,” said Hussle, comparing the famed physicist to lyrical rappers. “To me, that represents high intelligence, when you can express a very complex idea in a very simple way with the least amount of words or characters as possible.”

(AllHipHop News) Actor/singer Jussie Smollett recently dropped his Sum of My Music album. The collection includes the track “Catch Your Eye” featuring Swizz Beatz.

Smollett spoke with Revolt about working with the legendary Hip Hop producer. The 35-year-old industry veteran said, “It’s because he’s such an art aficionado, in every single way possible, he just respects other artists. He wants to see other people win.”

Throughout his music career, Jussie has also worked with Alicia Keys, Estelle, and Pitbull. He collaborated on records with his Empire co-stars Terrence Howard and Yazz as well.

(AllHipHop News) There has been hype around a proposed Childish Gambino/Chance The Rapper project for a while. In February 2017, CG talked about needing to “catch a vibe” with his “The Worst Guys” collaborator in order to complete the body of work.

A year later, Chance is once again talking about the prospective joint effort. The Coloring Book architect took part in Pitchfork‘s “In Sight Out” series, and Lil Chano made a bold declaration at the Museum of Contemporary Art event.

“We perpetuated that rumor for a long time without recording anything,” said Chance. “We did link up in Atlanta and record some tracks and… they’re amazing.”

Those comments appear to present a different timetable from what Chance suggested last summer when he told Hot 97, “This is going to hurt people’s feelings. We’re probably not going to put out a project in reality until we’re around like 44.”

Childish Gambino (aka Donald Glover) is set to drop a new solo album via RCA Records. The Grammy winner also announced a nationwide tour beginning September 6 in his hometown of Atlanta.
