Donald Glover Talks ‘Atlanta’, Trap Music, & Migos Shout Out

(AllHipHop Features) Donald Glover and fellow members of the cast of ‘Atlanta’ hosted a season 2 premiere screening in Atlanta for the hit FX show! The screening took place at East-Atlanta’s Starlight Six Drive-In theater. The “black carpet” featured Sonny Digital, Sahbabi, Kawan “KP” Prather, and Isaac Hayes III. At the closing of the red carpet, attendees had a chance to view the first two episodes of season 2 of ‘Atlanta’ which has been titled, “Robbin’ Season”. The cast and Glover also joined those in attendance for an after party that featured Atlanta-based rappers and an ATL-themed video booth. In a red carpet-turned-press conference, the media had a chance to hear Donald Glover’s thoughts on trap music, how Atlanta as a city is perceived and reflected in the show, and his epic Migos shout out. On trap music:
“It’s like Reggae or something where the elements are very small. It’s like five major elements, and then you just do what you do with it…I feel like everybody around the world can do it. It’s kind of like soccer; all you need is a ball. All you need is really like the bass drum and the trap drum, so like everybody can do it. But everybody can’t make it good. I feel like it’s a great equalizer of music,” said Donald.
On “Bad & Boujee” Migos shout out:
“I …..did not…… I mean this like honestly. I said it as a joke, cause I was like yeah everybody knows that song is hot. Then at that moment when I saw the crowd, I was like none of them know this song, like none of them have heard this song. I’ve heard this song like 20 times this week,” Glover added.
Donald Glover expressed that the show and the city of Atlanta represent how the city is a city with a lot of finessing, and a city where you can truly be whomever it is that you want to be.

Did Lil Wayne Take Shots At Birdman On His ‘Vizine’ Song?

(AllHipHop News) The years-long legal drama between Lil Wayne and Bryan “Birdman” Williams is still not resolved. While Birdman has been civil toward Wayne in public, the Young Money rapper apparently still holds a personal grudge against Baby.

Some of Wayne’s bars on the RGB 2 track “Vizine” have listeners speculated that he’s taking shots at his Cash Money label head. Weezy raps, “No one man should have all that power/If he can’t afford to pay the light bills.”

The lines – which interpolate Kanye West’s “Power” – were taken as a diss about Birdman reportedly losing his Miami home after defaulting on a loan. “Vizine” also arrives after news that Wayne is taking Williams back to court for allegedly refusing to turn over documents related to YMCMB artists Nicki Minaj and Drake.

Quavo’s Assault Case Investigation In NYC Reportedly Stalling

(AllHipHop News) Quavious “Quavo Marshall was accused of being involved in an assault and robbery in New York City during Grammy festivities. TMZ reports the case is now stalling since supposed victim Eric The Jeweler is not working with investigators.

Eric recently posted a message on social media claiming he and the Migos member don’t have any issues. He also blasted the press for perpetuating the story.

“Just for the record since the media likes to put things in their own words and elevate things that aren’t really true to another level, I am not suing or pressing charges against Quavo,” wrote Eric on Instagram. “The media got it all twisted it was all just a big misunderstanding. We are on good terms and back to conducting business as usual!”

Migos returned to NYC over the weekend to appear on Saturday Night Live. The Atlanta-based group performed “Stir Fry” and “Narcos” on the NBC program.

After Sit Down With Hot 97, Lil Xan Says He’s Done Doing Interviews

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgEljsUNCe4

(AllHipHop News) Ebro has built a reputation for challenging new artists during interviews. The Hot 97 morning show host repeated his pressing questioning style while speaking with Lil Xan.

The conversation included Ebro expressing his confusion on the California rapper’s name. He also admitted that he doesn’t listen to the Stat Quo protégé’s music.

Yesterday, Lil Xan took to Twitter to announce he has a new policy when it comes to speaking with the media. The “Betrayed” performer posted, “No more interviews… I love my fans to death but I can’t let these companies keep taking advantage of me and using me to further there [sic] sh-t, it’s f-cked.”

It’s not clear if the artist also known as Diego was directly responding to his sit down with Hot 97. However, the message did come on the same day the Ebro In The Morning crew recapped the discussion with Xan.

“In an art form that’s very competitive, if we want the best, I believe [in] being heavy-handed. This ain’t Romper Room to me,” stated Ebro. “We’re at that point again where we gotta have the convo between minor and major leagues. Just because you got a lot of IG followers and one hit song doesn’t mean you’re prime time.”

The former station program director added, “The only thing I cared about Lil Xan is he’s named after prescription drugs and he’s not doing them anymore, and I wanted to hear how he even went down that path.”

50 Cent and Conor McGregor Get To Beefin’

(AllHipHop Rumors) Just when you thought 50 Cent couldn’t beef anymore, he gets into it with an MMA assassin. Well. This just got interesting – again.

The Notorious MMA said:

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bf9b6eLnGPN/

And then 50 Cent came back with:

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bf-CXiNFZY8/

Well, you may not realize it, but these dudes have been at odds. Remember, Floyd Mayweather is 50 Cent’s homie. Last year, Conor and Money May went to war in the boxing ring. Conor took an L but ending up getting paid very, very, very well. 50 Cent said that he could also beat Conor in a street fight, which is plausible. 50 is a former boxer. He’s also quite a bit bigger than Conor. Conor responded by calling the G-Unit General a bunch of choice words.

And then 50 Cent had some words. This was all very weird.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BWglSrRlpLH/

I don’t know if you guys remember this, but Floyd Mayweather was offered a BILLION – allegedly – to get into the ring with McGregor. Now, this money is not confirmed but they are talking and it seems like Floyd is interested. Money talks, but Floyd is mostly IGing.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BfDUdqigdDg/

Comments must be getting to these guys. Floyd turned off the comments, 50 openly complained to his followers and he also blocked McGregor from his IG page. 50 even posted something and took it down! Nobody quite knows what it was though.

LOL!

Chandra Pitts began her life’s work organizing youth in Jamaica whose families could not afford to send them to school. AllHipHop: First of all, tell me about the Wakanda Warrior photo shoot you recently put together inspired by the Black Panther. My daughter and I were included and loved it.

Chandra G. Pitts: It was such an honor to have you and your daughter join us for this fun celebration of all things Black and Beautiful! The idea of the Wakanda Warrior photo shoot was something that I knew my artist friends would share my excitement about. I called my girlfriend who makes jewelry, a few of my photographer friends, natural hair enthusiasts and of course, my Marvel fanatics and it was on! We were all so excited to be a part of history through this project that everyone who collaborated on the project fully sponsored their time, talent and resources.

Seeing the marvel of Black Panther on the big screen was not just for comic fanatics. I appreciated the film as a Black culture fanatic. Seeing Hollywood depict a truly Black superhero, African culture celebrated for its wealth and beauty, the worlds wealth buried on the continent, and such intelligent, strong and beautiful Black siblings, scientists, and warriors; AND STRONG BLACK WOMEN at that!!! For many of us living in America as a “Black” person, Wakanda is a real as anyplace we’ve ever traced the African part of our “African American” existence too.

We showed up in theaters around the world like we were from Wakanda! Tribal make-up, African garb, special order t-shirts, and most importantly, proud to be Black! As a result, the Black Panther film made history. The truth is WE made history! Our Wakanda Warrior photo shoot during Black History Month captured all this beauty, culture and melanin in a way that we will never forget. #WakandaWarriorsDE forever!!

AllHipHop: Explain what your job entails?

Chandra G. Pitts: I have six jobs! I’m the CEO of a social impact agency called One Village Alliance. This is my dream job, which allows me to create my own course and determine my own destiny. It’s a purpose driven journey to grow youth into their true greatness and transform lives through education entrepreneurship and the arts. Having started this organization myself as a social entrepreneur, I still do much of the work. My job consists of everything from HR to advocacy including: fundraising; grant writing; organizational development; program development; even the administrative management. My dynamic role requires me to be a boss in business, build relationships at the legislative and corporate level, as well as stay connected on the ground to stay in tune with children, families and the community we represent.

https://www.instagram.com/accounts/login/?next=/p/BfpSUybDiNY/

AllHipHop: Tell me how Hip-Hop has factored in the work you do in the communities you serve.

Chandra G. Pitts: I was born and grew up with Hip-Hop and it’s still very much a part of who I am today. Hip-Hop was created to represent a culture for those most marginalized in high-poverty neighborhoods and give voice to the struggles devastating people’s lives. Even as Hip-Hop continues to be bought, sold and co-opted, the culture is still growing as a global social justice movement. My work is a part of that activism that was and continues to be inspired by hip-hop. Like Tupac, Public Enemy, KRS-1, Queen Latifah, and many others who used their platform to share the struggles of youth growing up in extreme poverty and call for action, I use every platform possible to raise awareness and bring change to the communities we serve. What defines the greatest lyricists is their storytelling ability. The most important part of my work is telling the story. In order to do that with integrity I work closely with our youth. That means staying relevant in our approach. My goal is to continue the movement toward social justice while building a counterculture of greatness, fortitude and power for our people.

AllHipHop: What’s the most enjoyable part of the job and your duties:

Chandra G. Pitts: I love waking up every single day with the knowledge that I’m living in my purpose. I enjoy using my voice to change people’s mind; about education and their ability to learn; about black males and mass incarceration; about themselves. Our words have the capacity to change the world. I’m a research person. The more information I have, the more empowered I become. I enjoy sharing information with others. Numbers are one thing. Everything in my world is data driven but without the narrative, the numbers can lie. I enjoy using the power of my voice and the capacity of words to bring truth to life.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BePDqgpDerW/

AllHipHop: What is the hardest part:

Chandra G. Pitts: Building the right team around me is by far the most difficult part of my job. It’s right up there with dealing with the suffering and loss of life of youth in our streets. Seriously. It’s a world changer when you have the right team of passion-driven, uniquely qualified, creative professionals working together with integrity and a standard of excellence.

Strong leadership is highly respected in the world we live in… Unless you’re a young woman of Color. I’m a first generation Mexican American and a Black woman. It has definitely presented more than one challenge that people have had to overcome or not. But it makes building that loyal, dedicated team a very conscious, strategic and tireless effort. It means having to deal with funding partners in an almost exclusively white world of philanthropy; personal agendas, jealousy and complacency among staff; dare I mention the lack of willing mentors committed to cultivating the next generation of Black and Hispanic women leaders.

Yes. I’ve received lots of accolades and have become a well respected for all that we’re accomplishing in the world. I’ve worked very hard and earned every ounce of it. But the knowledge that there is always someone there to underestimate, undermined and undervalue me is something that I’m very conscious of. That’s okay. My staying power is unquestionable.

AllHipHop: Can you describe a moment of adversity personal and in your career?

https://www.instagram.com/p/BeLKoE0Dmdy/

Chandra G. Pitts: As a philanthropist, everything I do is for the love of humanity. I face my greatest moments of adversity when I’m fighting against a system with no army. I distinctly remember walking through the neighborhood one day early in my work in an effort to mobilize residents to fight for equitable education for their own children. While many thanked me for the work we were doing on their behalf, they declined to join the movement. Most are so disenfranchised and locked out that they feel they no longer have a voice. The uphill battle becomes a lot more steep when the people who are most impacted by injustices are immobilized.

AllHipHop: What keeps you from giving up?

Chandra G. Pitts: My son. I remember my conscious thought the moment I found out that I was going to bring a child into this world. I knew I had a lot of work to do. And raising him has made me even more aware of the sense of urgency. There’s no way I can turn my back and walk away from the injustices facing our sons and daughters.. It’s not in me. I’m clear about my purpose. I feel a great sense of personal responsibility to my ancestors who came before me and risked their very lives; the elders who gave their freedom, many of whom are still incarcerated even today; and most importantly, the generations who are coming up in this world. It’s really that deep for me.

It’s our responsibility to do something and there’s an urgency. I remember when I was developing our Raising Kings initiative to change the image, expectations an outcomes for our men and boys. I came across a music video that had a huge impact on me. It showed me what was happening right outside my door with our children in a way that I had never seen it before. Through the lens of Hip-Hop, I was able to experience life, being a kid, fatherhood, even youth engagement in “Out Delaware” by local rapper known as Bobby Dimes. Just a few short years later when the same young man who enlightened and inspired me lost his life to gun violence, I was painfully reminded of the extreme urgency to keep going.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BasLTV-DVCb/

AllHipHop: Who inspired you to become a leader or boss?

Chandra G. Pitts: I was raised by a civil rights activist. With the constant support from my dad, my mom was a fierce advocate for justice in education and beyond. She continues to serve as my inspiration, role model and trusted confidant.

AllHipHop: How do you balance work, and personal life?

Chandra G. Pitts: That’s a challenge. My work is a huge part of my personal journey. But I make it a point to stay physically strong through proper, eating, rest, and breathing. I give my mind a rest through comic relief and make time for frequent world travel. And most importantly, I remain spiritually grounded with lots of prayers of gratitude!

AllHipHop: What do you like to do for fun?

Chandra G. Pitts: I travel. I love to cook. And I’m a great cook so I entertain friends often which is a lot of fun for me.

AllHipHop: Final words?

Chandra G. Pitts: Keep going!

Wiley Picks Up MBE Honor From Prince William

(AllHipHop News) U.K. rapper Wiley visited Buckingham Palace to be made a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE).

The grime music pioneer, 39, was named in Queen Elizabeth II’s New Year’s Honors List and received his award for services to music from Prince William, Duke of Cambridge.

After receiving the MBE, Wiley, real name Richard Cowie, said he was surprised the royals were aware of grime, an underground style of hip-hop he helped originate.

“I did think in the music industry you could do work that people would recognize, I always knew that part,” he told the Press Association. “But I didn’t know if, like, the royals would. I don’t know why I felt like they would never know us.”

Grime first emerged in London in the early years of the new millennium, when the genre was led by Wiley and his protege Dizzee Rascal but has enjoyed a resurgence in recent years, with new star Stormzy bagging two Brit Awards last week.

Wiley said he was delighted that a new generation of grime artists were now enjoying success.

“It’s amazing man,” he said. “I’m so proud, proud of the fact that these kids can do something. Stormzy is from today. He’s not from my time, he’s the evolution of what me and Dizzee (Rascal) and everyone else done.”

The rapper said he hoped receiving the honor meant he could inspire others and would help him with his new ambition to educate young musicians.

“This could open up doors for me in terms of going back to teach, to help, because I don’t care about myself anymore, I care about others,” he said. “I feel like that’s the way I get on in my life, it’s about everyone else, and that’s why I’m here.”

Safaree Banned From High School Visit Over Leak Of Penis Pictures

(AllHipHop News) Nicki Minaj’s ex-lover was kicked out of a high school in Brooklyn, New York earlier this week because the principal didn’t want the negative publicity surrounding his visit.

Safaree Samuels said he was outside waiting to surprise students in his native borough when he was told he wasn’t welcome at the school.

“They were setting up the stuff but then the lady came out and said, ‘We don’t want him here, we don’t want the backlash’,” he explained.

The rapper wasn’t told exactly what the problem was, but he feels sure it had everything to do with the leak of photos of his impressive manhood online.

Safaree insists the snaps may not have served him well, but he is getting a lot of positive feedback following the leak.

He tells the outlet he has been offered p### film roles and other lucrative business opportunities as a result of his manhood.

“Some people from some condom places (have been in touch), some (people who make) sex molds – they wanted me to do a mold,” he smiles, revealing he was offered $100,000 to allow experts to duplicate his penis.

“My female fans hit me up, saying that they would like that, but that seems a bit personal. I think that would mess me up in the future for having a wife.”

And he reveals his mighty manhood kept his famous ex, Minaj, happy when they were together four years ago: “She always used to say to me, ‘If you didn’t have that thing, I would have been leave you,” he laughed. “She would be cracking up when she said it.”

Samuels, who dated Nicki for 14 years until their 2014 split, wasn’t just her ex – he was a member of her former group, Hoodstars, co-wrote her single “Did It On ’em,” and served as her hype man for years.

He also appeared in Minaj’s “Stupid Hoe” music video.

(AllHipHop News) Jordan Peele hopes his Oscar win for Best Original Screenplay on Sunday night, inspires young people from all backgrounds to pursue their dreams.

The 39-year-old won the prize for his directorial debut “Get Out,” becoming the first black person to triumph in the category, and confessed to reporters backstage that he almost didn’t become a writer/director because there were so few African-American role models to inspire him.

He hopes that young people watching at home will see his win and feel like they can achieve anything – just like he did when he saw Whoopi Goldberg pick up the Best Supporting Actress gong for Ghost in 1991.

“When the nominations for this came out I had this amazing feeling of looking at the 12-year-old that had this burning in my guts for this type of validation, and I instantly realized that an award like this is much bigger than me,” he said.

“This is about paying it forward to the young people who might not believe they could achieve the highest honor in whatever craft they want to push for. You’re not a failure if you don’t get this, but I almost didn’t do it because I didn’t believe there was a place for me.”

He said he called Whoopi after receiving nominations for Best Original Screenplay, Best Director and Best Picture to thank her for inspiring someone who doubted himself to feel like they could achieve the honor, and added, “I hope that this does the same and inspires more people to use their voices.”

Peele added he feels proud to be a part of the achievements African-American filmmakers are making in Hollywood right now.

“We had Spike (Lee), we had John Singleton (before)… but they felt like the exception to the rule,” he said. “I’m so proud to be part of a time, the beginning of a movement, where I feel like the best films in every genre are being brought to me by my fellow black directors. It’s very special and I think that goes for all areas of inclusion, but it’s clear by the work that Ava (DuVernay)’s doing, that Ryan (Coogler)’s doing, F. Gary Gray, Barry (Jenkins), that this is a very special time.”
