Nicki Minaj Suggests Her Breast-Exposing Outfit Was Inspired By Picasso, Not Lil Kim

(AllHipHop News) Nicki Minaj had a lot of people questioning if her one-breast-out outfit at Paris Fashion Week was an homage to Lil Kim or a subliminal dig at her longtime rival.

Over the weekend, Minaj re-posted an Instagram photo, uploaded by Caroline de Maigret, of a painting created by Pablo Picasso.

The Picasso image resembles her widely reported ensemble.

Kim wore her famous boob-bearing nipple pasty fit at the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards which led to music legend Diana Ross playing with her free breast on live television.

The Ross-Kim incident is often listed as one of the most memorable moments in VMA history.

SMH: Nicki Minaj Fans Try To Get Remy Ma Arrested!

(AllHipHop Rumors) Nicki Minaj has brought out the wack a$$ Hip-Hop fans. I cannot believe that this is life, a time where rap fans are snitching over a rap battle.

Now, some think this is cool, but I think it has to be the wackest thing ever. Remy Ma did considerable time in the bing over shooting somebody. Now, she is on probation over it. Why have Nicki Minaj stans been calling Remy’s P.O.? They are really trying to get Remy knocked up because she wasted homegirl on “shETHER.”

That’s some real corny and petty BS. Yes, it was a murder but are you really snitching and validating that she won?

Check it:

https://www.instagram.com/p/BRRWi_SBx_L/

And then, it seems like Nicki Minaj has been trying to force distract us into forgetting her non-existent battle with Remy. Check what she did over the weekend.

AND, guess what?

The word on the street is that Nicki Minaj got “shETHER” shelved on a number of platforms and you look and there seems to be something there. The one on youtube that had millions and millions and millions of views – taken down. The ones on SoundCloud – taken. The iTunes SEEMS to be there, but I cannot get it to play. Nicki may not be battle rapping, but she is doing some other form of battle. Remy may have a case of David vs Goliath on her hands.

The week before that, his self-titled album fourth release also topped the Billboard Top 200 chart after his self-titled record moved just over 140,000 total units.

HNDRXX is Future’s fifth number 1 album on the charts.

Other voice actors confirmed for the movie include rapper Donald Glover, Robert Downey Jr., Marissa Tomei, Zendaya and Stan Lee.

The new untitled “Spider-Man” movie is expected in theaters on December 25, 2017.

Feds Threaten High Times Owners Over Planned Smokeout and Celebration In Las Vegas

(AllHipHop News) Tens of thousands of people’s plans to peacefully and legally smoke some recreational marijuana in Las Vegas over the weekend has gone up in smoke.

Rapper Ludacris was the headliner of High Times’ annual Cannabis Cup, which is taking place this weekend on the land of the Moapa Band of Paiutes.

In January, voters in the state approved recreational use of up to 1 ounce of marijuana for adults.

Over 10,000 people bought tickets to the event, in hopes of celebrating Nevada’s new recreational marijuana laws.

Organizers of the festival were forced to publicly admit that they were that there would be no marijuana at this year’s event, after politicians in the state of Nevada objected to the festival being held on the land of the Moapa Band of Paiutes.

A group of Democratic and Republican politicians sent a letter to current Attorney General Mike Sessions, and eventually the Nevada’s top prosecutor U.S. Attorney Daniel Bogden issued a warning to the organizers of the High Times Festival.

“We’ve removed the marijuana,” a spokesman for High Times said. “There will be no smoking area, no edibles competition, no cannabis topicals or lotions.”

Although it’s doubtful that the marijuana smoking will be completely stamped out during the festival, the owners of High Times and the Indian reservation run the risk of becoming the subject of a federal investigation had they ignored the government’s orders.

Kanye West Is Getting Hours Of Advice From Caitlyn Jenner

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Kanye West has reportedly found a parental figure in Caitlyn Jenner.

The world famous rapper was hospitalized last year, “temporary psychosis due to sleep deprivation and dehydration,” requiring him to scrap almost $30 million worth of dates on his “Saint Pablo” tour.

According to reports, Kanye spends hours on the phone with Caitlyn Jenner, since he was discharged from the hospital in late November of 2016.

“He feels a deep connection with Caitlyn, who has had bouts of depression and struggled in the limelight, which Kanye can relate to,” a source told Closer magazine.

Kanye supposedly spends a lot of time at Caitlin’s Malibu mansion, to seek guidance, counseling and career advice.

“She’s urged Kanye to spend plenty of time alone with Kim to ensure they don’t let the stress of their public profiles get in the way of their love for one another,” the source claimed.

The counseling from Caitlyn could be behind Kanye’s slow return to music.

Last week, he released a new “mix” from his Yeezy Season 5 fashion show.

However, the mix was an unreleased, 17 minute, slightly tweaked version “Bed,” a record The-Dream produced for J. Holiday in 2007.

Funkmaster Flex Blasts Nicki Minaj and Agrees With Charlamagne For Once

(AllHipHop News) Legendary New York radio personality Funkmaster Flex has seen his share of issues in Hip-Hop.

Whether it was debuting records like “The Takeover” by Jay-Z or Nas’ response “Ether,” to Meek Mill’s “Wanna Know” from Nicki’s ex, Meek, it is safe to say Funk Flex knows a thing or two about beefs.

Flex has even battled with rival New York station Power 105.1 and their hosts DJ Envy and Charlamagne Tha God, but the New York radio personalities agree on one thing.

They’re disappointed in rapper Nicki Minaj.

Like Charlamagne Tha God earlier this week, Funkmaster Flex expressed his disappointment in Nicki Minaj’s lack of reply.

“You did try to claim ‘QUEEN’ for many years! I may not be the biggest Drake fan but he did attend to his business when confronted whether he writes or not!” Funkmaster Flex fumed.

“Just to keep it a buck! I know you have sold a lot of records in the past and we all know your an attractive woman…. I ain’t the gatekeeper… just a fan of the music.. u from queens…”

Once again, Nicki Minaj has ignored two back-to-back diss records issued by rapper Remy Ma.

Last weekend, Remy released “shETHER,” and followed it up later in the week with “Another One.”

Nicki, on the other hand, has been in Paris, ignoring the controversial songs, which has ignited debates in hip-hop on how, when or if she should reply.

Flex believes Nicki is not leading up to her claim of being “The Queen” of hip-hop.

“You NEVER post pics like this? I get it.. “distraction” !!!! Love u as a entertainer!!! Disappointed in u as a lyricist!!”

Meanwhile, Nicki has posted another post on IG, this time of her foot.

The Chevy Suburban Notorious B.I.G. Was Riding In When Killed Up Sale

(AllHipHop News) The rush to cash in on the deaths of the Notorious B.I.G. Tupac Shakur continues.

Just last week, it was announced that the black BMW that Tupac was riding in when he was shot and killed in Las Vegas in 1996, was being auctioned off for sale.
Now, the news is breaking that the wheels the Notorious B.I.G. lost his life in after the Soul Train Awards in Los Angeles in 1997, is also up for auction.

The infamous dark green Chevy Suburban, which was also riddled with bullets by unknown gunmen, is up for sale for $1.5 million.

The Suburban is being sold via the Moments in Time auction website, which is the same company that is selling off the black BMW.

“My husband and I bought the car in October ‘97, when we were looking for a larger vehicle for our family of 6. We bought the car from a broker in Chula Vista, CA, who bought it from an auction in L.A.,” the seller explained. “We owned the car for years, using it as our family vehicle, not knowing about its history. Into 2005, L.A. detective called and informed us about the car’s involvement in the shooting of Biggie Smalls and that will be needed for the trial. We have kept the car now for 20 years and decided it was finally time to sell it.”

The intertwining fate of both artists will be explored in the upcoming Tupac biopic “All Eyez on Me,” which hits theaters on June 16.

Killer Mike, Talib Kweli Protest SXSW’s Immigration Policy; Festival Organizers Blame U.S. Laws

(AllHipHop News) Organizers for the famed SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas have issued an apology, after a group of musicians banded together to oppose the festival’s immigration policies and practices.

Organizers for SXSW are accused of threatening to have the international artists playing on the bill deported, if they performed at any other official SXSW event in Austin, Texas.

Rappers like Killer Mike, Talib Kweli, Immortal Technique, and other artists signed a petition, after learning of a clause, which is baked into contracts the festival issued to the artists.

“As artists and part of the musical community of SXSW, we’re outraged to learn that the festival has been threatening artists who are not U.S. citizens with targeted immigration enforcement and deportation for playing at unofficial showcases,” the petition reads. “In light of recent attacks on immigrant communities, this practice is particularly chilling. We are calling on SXSW to immediately drop this clause from their contract, and cease any collusion with immigration officials that puts performers in danger.”

The petition demanded that the SXSW organizers immediately remove the offending part of the contract, in addition to issuing an apology.

Organizers for the SXSW the festival did not back down and issued a statement saying their hands were tied, due to U.S. immigration laws:

SXSW has been vocal in its opposition to President Trump’s Travel Ban and is working hard to build a coalition of attorneys to assist artists with issues at U.S. ports of entry during the event.

We have artists from 62 countries from around the world performing and have always supported our international music community. We have never reported international showcasing artists to immigration authorities.

We were sorry to learn that one of our invited performers chose to cancel his performance at this year’s SXSW Music Festival due to a misunderstanding of our policies regarding international artists.

We understand that given the current political climate surrounding immigration, the language that was published seems strong. Violating U.S. immigration law has always carried potentially severe consequences, and we would be remiss not to warn our participating acts of the likely repercussions.

Language governing SXSW’s ability to protect a showcase has been in the artist Performance Agreement for many years. It is, and always was intended to be, a safeguard to provide SXSW with a means to respond to an act that does something truly egregious, such as disobeying our rules about pyrotechnics on stage, starting a brawl in a club, or causing serious safety issues.

The SXSW Performance Agreement states:

If SXSW determines, in its sole discretion, that Artist or its representatives have acted in ways that adversely affect the viability of Artist’s official SXSW showcase, the following actions are available to SXSW:

○ Artist will be removed from their official SXSW showcase and, at SXSW’s sole option, replaced.
○ Any hotels booked via SXSW Housing will be canceled.
○ Artist’s credentials will be canceled.
○ SXSW will notify the appropriate U.S. immigration authorities of the above actions.

We hope never to be put in the position to act on this. Indeed, we spend a great deal of time communicating with international artists concerning numerous issues, including how to avoid issues at U.S. ports of entry.

Moreover, there is language in the Performance Agreement which is included to inform foreign artists that the U.S. immigration authorities have mechanisms to create trouble for artists who ignore U.S. immigration laws. For example, those acts coming to SXSW to perform without a work visa are limited, by U.S. immigration law, to performing their showcase event only. If an artist wishes to perform elsewhere, they will require a work visa.

As such, both to protect SXSW and the interests of all the participating artists, we long ago added this language to our Performance Agreement:

1.4. Foreign Artists entering the country through the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), B visa or any non-work visa may not perform at any public or unofficial shows, DAY OR NIGHT, in Austin from March 10-19, 2017. Accepting and performing at unofficial events (including unofficial events aside from SXSW Music dates during their visit to the United States) may result in immediate deportation, revoked passport and denied entry by US Customs Border Patrol at US ports of entry. Keith Thurman And Danny Garcia Prepare For War Tonight

(AllHipHop Lifestyle) Tonight’s the night and both Danny “Swift” Garcia and Keith “One Time” Thurman are both ready to get it on at the Barclay’s in Brooklyn New York.

The welterweight world title showdown between the two undefeated 147-pound titlists goes down tonight on CBS in partnership with Showtime Boxing. The 12-round bout starts at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

Thurman, who some predict may win, didn’t sound like the favorite in an interview with AllHipHop.

“I just let myself be a trapped animal, man. I just stay in my own mind. Stay real focused on my own grind. every single time I step in the ring, I’m facing a man that’s trying to keep me away from my dream. There’s no way on any cellular level that my body feels comfortable with that,” Thurman said.

“You are in front of me and for me to do what I’ve always wanted to do, all I gotta do is take care of you. OK? Just imagine, all you dreams can come true, but you just gotta put hands on this one person over there. And all his dreams can come true, but he’s just gotta put hands on you. Whatever that dream is….Just imagine that it can be accomplished. You just gotta mess this boy up real quick. That’s how I think about this fight game. Its you. You are stopping me from being the best me I can be. You think I’m gonna let you stop that? That’s who Keith ‘One Time’ Thurman is.”

Garcia, a Philadelphia native, reveled in the notion that he isn’t expected to win.

“I’ve been the underdog before. All ‘underdog’ means is that there are a whole bunch of people who don’t know what I can do,” Garcia said. “I rise to the occasion every time. I win because I’m better. On Saturday night I’m going to prove it again.”

Both men are undefeated and, barring a draw, one of them will experience defeat for the first time.

Thurman: “I’ve got an ‘0’ and I’m not afraid to let it go. If you can beat me, beat me. That’s because every time I step into the ring, I put my best foot forward. I’m gonna fight with all my gut, because I’m coming for the glory!” Thurman stated. “So, if you can beat me, beat me. I will shake your hand. ‘Congratulations, you just beat a real warrior. You beat a dog.’”

Garcia: ”I fight to win. I fight to secure my family’s future and that’s what it’s all about. That’s what we train so hard for. I’m going to give the fans something to watch on Saturday. Legacy is very important to me. I have more milestones than Thurman. This is his biggest fight. I’ve been in big fights before. Every championship fight is a part of history.”

A fight of this caliber is almost always a pay per view event, but DiBella Entertainment and Premier Boxing Champions were able to bring it to the people for free on CBS. Thurman said it is the right move to reinvigorate the boxing base.

“Its time that boxing returns to the people. There was a time that – and everybody understands how pay per view makes money – but when it comes to the sport and getting that recognition, boxing needs to return to the people. The American people are spoiled when it comes to sports and entertainment,” the Florida native said. “You get to see the Super Bowl for free. You get to see the Final Four. You get to see tennis and Serena Williams. You get to see Tiger Woods (in golf). You get to see the Olympics (for Free).

“On March 4th, you get to see Keith Thurman, Danny Garcia – both undefeated champions, 28 years old, in their prime. Ready to go down and lay their titles on the line – for the fight fans. Its a great thing for the sport of boxing and its ultimately, its a great sporting event in America. You don’t get these sporting events in boxing. This is what boxing should be about.”

Trey Songz Rejects Plea Deal For Giving Cop A Concussion

(AllHipHop News) Lawyers for R&B crooner Trey Songz declined a plea deal in his assault case yesterday (March 3).

Trey emerged in court yesterday via video conference.

Prosecutors offered the singer a plea deal, to avoid a felony assault charge against a police officer, for a misdemeanor charge, instead.

Trey was charged with assaulting an officer, after a performance at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, in December 2016.
The singer was infuriated when a stagehand at the arena cut off his microphone because his show went over its allotted time.

Trey Songz flipped out and started flinging objects from the stage, including a microphone, which struck a cameraman on the head.

Trey is also accused of striking a police sergeant in the head, which gave the officer a concussion

Even though Trey Songz rejected the plea deal yesterday, the option to take the plea remains on the table.

If he pleads guilty, Trey Songz will have to serve two years of probation and be subject to alcohol screening and anger management training.

However, if Trey Songz is prosecuted for the crime, he faces up to four years in prison for the incident, which gave the officer a concussion.

Rapper Kevin Gates Coming Home From Jail This Month

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Kevin Gates will reportedly walk free from jail later this month.

The “Paper Chasers” star, real name Kevin Gilyard, was sentenced to 180 days in jail on a battery charge for kicking a female fan during a 2015 performance.

Gilyard was onstage at Rumor’s Nite Club in Lakeland, Florida in 2015 when audience member Miranda Dixon reportedly tugged at his shorts mid-performance.

In video footage of the incident, Gates appeared to strike the woman in her abdomen with his foot, and police subsequently filed a criminal complaint against him.

He was convicted of battery last year and also received one year of probation.

The 31-year-old has been serving his time at the Polk County Jail, but he will reportedly be released on March 24.

Gilyard’s lawyer Jose Baez had previously asked for the case to be dismissed under Florida’s Stand your Ground Law, which allows an individual to defend themselves if threatened.

Grime Rapper Stormzy Sets Chart Record In The U.K. With “Gang Signs & Prayer”

(AllHipHop News) British grime star Stormzy’s debut record Gang Signs & Prayer has knocked Rag’n’Bone Man off the top of the U.K. album chart.

The two Brits were engaged in an intense back-and-forth battle for the number one spot, with the 23-year-old rapper taking over at the top with combined sales of 69,000.

Gang Signs & Prayer also racked up the most first-week streams in U.K. chart history.

Reacting to his album’s success, Stormzy tells OfficialCharts.com “It hasn’t sunk in yet. Honestly, I wish I could take every person who bought and streamed the album out with me, have dinner with them, dedicate a whole night to them. I don’t take your support for granted. I can’t thank you enough.”

Human drops to two, while Ed Sheeran’s 2014 album x (multiply) returns to the top three as he releases his new album ÷ (divide) today (March 3).

The soundtrack to the movie “Trolls,” and Adele’s 25 round out the top five.

Sheeran, who performed a surprise duet with Stormzy at last week’s BRIT Awards, maintains his grip on the top of the U.K. singles chart as his track Shape of You lands an eighth week at number one.

Coldplay and dance duo The Chainsmokers’ collaboration “Something Just Like This” is at two, while Sheeran’s “Castle on the Hill” is at number three.

XXXTENTACION On Kodak Black’s Arrest: I Feel Like Kodak Black Was Set Up

(AllHipHop News) Two of the most buzzworthy rappers from Florida are both locked up in the Broward County Jail at the moment.

Jahseh “XXXTENTACION” Onfroy is currently behind bars awaiting trial for various charges, and Dieuson “Kodak Black” Octave was taken back into custody for allegedly violating his probation.

DJ Akademiks spoke with X by phone.

According to the “Look at Me!” performer, his peer should not be behind bars.

“I feel like they set him up,” said X.

Kodak was placed on probation and house arrest for originally being arrested in 2016 for robbery, false imprisonment, fleeing a law enforcement officer, and possession of a firearm by a delinquent.

The “Tunnel Vision” rapper was arrested again for allegedly breaking the terms of his probation by visiting a Miami strip club and attending an Adrien Broner boxing match in Cincinnati without approval.

Kodak is accused of failing to complete an anger management program as well.

XXXTENTACION also told Akademiks, “[Kodak] had permission to go to that boxing match. As far as that strip club, I’m not sure how that went. But all of these things – he’s just marketing records which can be considered work.”

According to reports, X was arrested three times in 2016.

The Plantation, Florida native is facing charges of robbery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon from last July, aggravated battery of a pregnant then-girlfriend and false imprisonment from October, and violation of a pre-trial agreement in December.

Medium Contacts Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown Burst Into Tears

(AllHipHop News) Bobby Brown burst into tears during a recent televised reading by medium Tyler Henry, when he channeled the spirit of his late wife Whitney Houston.

Brown is among the celebrities who signed up for a session with Henry as part of his “Hollywood Medium” show, and a new trailer suggests his sit down with the celebrated spiritual guide was an emotional one.

“I’m seeing a mother connecting hands with a child,” Henry told Brown, seemingly referencing Houston and her daughter with Brown, Bobbi Kristina, who died in July, 2015.

Whitney passed away three years earlier.

Footage from the upcoming episode features Brown sobbing as he talks about his late ex-wife.

Sisters Khloe Kardashian and Kylie Jenner, Ice-T’s wife Coco Austin, and Janice Dickinson will also feature in the new season of the show, while rapper Lil’ Kim shows up with one of her late lover The Notorious B.I.G.’s coats, suggesting she will attempt to contact him from beyond the grave.

Audio: Foxy Brown Disses Remy Ma Over “shETHER,” Mentions Miscarriage

(AllHipHop News) Fans are looking for a reply from Nicki Minaj, but it seems they are only getting others like Foxy Brown offering a take on “ShETHER.”

Foxy Brown jumped into the fray today after she was subliminally referenced on the Remy Ma diss track. ““I kill rappers, and you good as dead, b####/Talking sh#t about me to a deaf b#tch,” Remy rapped on “shETHER” about the other rappers.

Because of the jab, Foxy Brown, known to have hearing issues, has returned fire with her own diss, which uses Jay Z’s “Takeover” as the backdrop.

“The takeover, the fakes over n####/Got a lil shine, ok? Thank Mona,” Foxy says on the song. “I heard your lil rhymes, ok? Brooklyn I’m on her/I’m on my ’96 sh#t, got the DNA of Hova,” Foxy raps.

And the Brooklyn rapper and recent mother swings well beneath the belt by mentioning Remy Ma’s miscarriage. “I’m a motherf##king BK savage/And I heard about that b#### miscarriage,” she says in the preview.

#AHHPowerfulWomen: Emmy-Nominated Producer Elon Johnson is a Force to be Reckoned With

AHH Poweful Women/Females

With more than a decade of experience in television production and journalism, Emmy Award-nominated producer, Elon D. Johnson has facilitated in the creation and execution of some of the most critically acclaimed and highly rated shows on several networks including syndicated channels (ABC, NBC, FOX), and cable channels BET, VH1, MTV, and FUSE.

As a journalist, Elon’s work has appeared in Essence, Giant, Honey, Jewel, Juicy, King, Latin Girl, Long Island Village Voice, Mixmag, One World, Poz, Request, Set, Suede, The Ave, The Source, Unleashed, Uptown, Vibe, Vibe Vixen, XXL, XXL Presents Eye Candy, XXL Presents Hip Hop Soul, and on AllHipHop.com, Amazon.com, AOL.com, Barnes&Noble.com, BET.com, Hookt.com, MartiniPink.com, MTV.com, Papermag.com, VH1.com and Vibe.com.

As the grandchild of immigrants, Elon and has maintained close ties to her family roots in Barbados, working on a number of international projects including entertainment TV shows and the marketing and advertising of women-centered and empowering tourism events.

As you can see, this powerful woman is one to be reckoned with. AllHipHop.com got a moment to ask Ms. Johnson a few questions:

AllHipHop: please, explain what your job entails?

Elon Johnson: There are several levels to being a producer in television depending on the network or production company, but my job, essentially, is to manage, execute and produce an event, worthy of being on television. While there is no easy way to explain it, my job is really to make sure all elements of getting a show from conception to air are complete. Typically I start with a proposed creative perimeter, source out the right production team for said content, brainstorm ideas, and work with several departments – from legal, to clearance, to standards and practices, to sales and branding, all while making sure the content tells a full story, is entertaining and engaging and nothing is left unaddressed.

AllHipHop: What’s the most enjoyable part of the job and your duties?

Elon Johnson: The most enjoyable part of the job is having the ability to create television about things that interest me. I started in music news and had the opportunity to work with some of the biggest names in entertainment. It was a regular day at work to interview Destiny’s Child, Wu-Tang Clan, Britney Spears, Nas, Ja Rule, 50 Cent, Outkast, Christina Aguilera, Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliott, U2, The Fugees, and so many more. I moved on to talk television which was more lifestyle, women-centered and centered on A-List TV and movie stars, and now, the content that is before me can be anything from a large live awards red carpet show to developing a cult web series into a TV series, so being able to keep my finger on the pulse of pop culture is very much a dream job in many ways.

AllHipHop: What is the hardest part?

Elon Johnson: The most difficult part, currently, is viewer engagement. The face of television, how television is viewed and what keeps the viewer’s attention is ever changing and it is my job to not only stay abreast of those changes but to also be ahead of the TV trends.

AllHipHop: What advice do you have to offer people that want to be where you are or aspire to make it in the business?

Elon Johnson: Channel your passion, present your ambition, and most importantly let your reputation precede you. So if you’re an intern, be the standout intern. If you’re a production assistant (an entry level TV position), be sure to offer more than your job requires while at the same time, staying in your lane. I find the people who ask the most questions, seek out counsel to get ahead, and pay close attention to all the moving parts of production, often have the best success in moving forward fast. And if you’re DIY, take it seriously. Study the craft and elevate your idea. You have the audience, keep them.

AllHipHop: Can you describe a moment of adversity personal and in your career?

Elon Johnson: Who can’t? Nothing about the work force is easy. I have storiessssssss…. Especially in the uber emotional industry of entertainment. I once had a very popular female rapper threaten me because she found out I interviewed her former fiancé as part of her cover story for a magazine. I felt terrible that she was so angered by this but it was part of my job to get all sides of the story. I was once in a car with a very popular male rapper who decided to drive full speed ahead down the sidewalk because the cops had blocked off the street. I honestly thought my crew and I might lose our life that night behind his aggression.

I’ve had hardships in the workplace just dealing with people wanting to pigeonhole me as a Black woman, despite the fact that I have seamlessly transitioned between producing a hip-hop news special that looked a beef between Nas and Jay-Z, to a talk show with top model Alexa Chung, to a show that required a full-fledged house renovation with Nate Berkus to producing 11 hours of live television in less than a week, all celebrating the BET Awards.

As for the personal, I have freelanced as a producer and showrunner for over 10 years now. This lifestyle is not for the faint of heart. It is essentially a business you’re running as an individual so YOU are responsible for marketing yourself, staying relevant, and making sure people know that you are capable of doing this job in various mediums and doing it better than others. So that can weigh on your personal life as the hustle tends to take precedence.

AllHipHop: What keeps you from giving up working within a male dominated industry…

Elon Johnson: One thing I don’t focus on is gender in the workplace. I know I’m damn good at what I do period. I’ve had so much experience in so many facets of media that it is a gut sensation for me to produce. I deal with men the same way I deal with women unless I’m required to act (professionally) otherwise and I think that is respected by all parties involved.

AllHipHop: Who inspired you to become a leader or boss…

Elon Johnson: I have been bossy since birth. I require things to be a certain way in my life and in the professional realm. I prefer and require order, proper execution, working smart over overworking, and overall excellence so it is natural for me to seek out ways to run the show – pun intended. In terms of specific people in the industry that have inspired me, I’ve had the benefit of working with some real boss chicks in television. I always site Corin Nelson, Nina Diaz, and Jennifer Demme as three producers who have helped to shape my leadership. As well, I have worked with men like Sway Calloway, Rick Grimes, and Stephen Hill who have expected nothing less than they would of my male counterparts.

AllHipHop: How do you balance work and personal life?

Elon Johnson: I’ve learned to completely separate the two so that each gets my full attention. When it’s personal time, there is no work, and when it’s work time, there may be a break here or there for personal. Lol. It all comes down to time management and alleviating stress.

AllHipHop: What do you do for fun?

Elon Johnson: Experience is my “fun currency.” I love travel associated with events, so heading out of state or country for a big concert is right up my alley. My family is from the Caribbean so partaking in Carnival, Crop Over, and other cultural experiences is part of my DNA. Learning – through experience – about culture, fashion, literature, and music are priorities for me. And of course, what woman doesn’t love to indulge in bad and boujee behavior? I’m a sucker for a luxe experience.

AllHipHop: Final words?

Elon Johnson: I will say that it is women’s history month and part of that is not only celebrating women and our accomplishments, but also peeling back the cloak of women of color, immigrant women, and women who may face challenges simply because we’re considered different who have not been celebrated. #HiddenFigures. As I’m honored to be featured, I think AllHipHop.com is doing just that!

Chance the Rapper’s Meeting With Republican Gov. “Went A Little Different Than It Should Have”

(AllHipHop News) Chance the Rapper’s important meeting with Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner took place earlier today (March 3).

Chance was clearly frustrated with the Governor, with reports suggesting the Republican gave “vague answers” when it came to fixing the state’s broken education system.

According to reports, Chicago ranks near the bottom in the nation for its state public-education funding.

Chance’s meeting with the Governor Rauner left the Chicago native “flustered.”

“I felt it went a little bit different than it should have,” Chance the Rapper said as he was leaving the meeting. “I’m here because I just want people to do their jobs.”

According to Chance, their meeting focused around a $215 million Chicago Public Schools budget shortfall, which the Governor apparently asked the rapper to tell him “where it was supposed to come from.”

Nevertheless, Chance left the meeting feeling optimistic that he could help the Chicago Public School system with a funding plan for Chicago, and districts across the state.

“Chicago Public Schools and I did not lose today,” Chance the Rapper tweeted. “Please don’t let that become the narrative. Monday morning I’ll have a plan.”
