Killer Mike Joins A Game Of Russian Roulette In New Visual By Blakheart Broadway

While the duo Blakheart Broadway isn’t the most popular group in the world, longtime collaborator Killer Mike makes this song a great intro to the Boston duo.

As one half of production duo The Beat Bullies, Nikki Broadway has created hits for everyone from Outkast, Nelly, Lil Wayne and Chamillionaire to Matchbox 20’s Rob Thomas, Mary J. Blige and Carlos Santana. The other half of his group includes Mickey Blakheart, a staple on Boston’s underground Hip Hop scene for many years, running a successful imprint, Big Bang Records.

On their first offering, “Losing Control”, long-time friend and collaborator, Killer Mike joins a game of Russian Roulette in visuals that will be difficult to forget.

In this case we get a dope Killer Mike verse over the same guys that make “”Kryptonite (I’m On It).” Def worth the spin!

Co-Creator Of ‘Yo! MTV Raps’ Died Of A Heart Attack

Peter Dougherty, co-creator of MTV’s first hip-hop show Yo! MTV Raps, has passed away, according to the New York Times. He reportedly died of a heart attack. He was 59-years-old.

Dougherty worked in the on-air promotions department at MTV during the 1980s, a time where the network did not pay much attention to black music. He, along with colleague Ted Demme, pushed to shoot a pilot for a rap music show. In August 1988, Yo! MTV Raps premiered and went on to become the highest rated show in MTV’s history.

In 1990, Dougherty transferred to MTV Europe in 1990 but returned to the states in the mid-2000s.

He is survived by his brother, mother, sister, a son and a daughter.

Wes Roby- “Flavor”

Wes Roby has been making waves on the scene for a little while now. The second eldest of 5 boys, Roby and his brothers were raised by their single mother in the oldest black town in America; Eatonville, FL, just north of Orlando. He started making music in 2003. The Hip Hop artist, who happens to ghostwrite and produce for others stated,

“Music is my first true love, passion and dream. My vision is to be myself to the maximum. Everyone wants to be different but very few people are truly being themselves. Fun, happiness, love, pain and telling the story of Wes Roby has always been my goal with music. I live by the philosophy that your passion is that thing you would do even if you didn’t get paid for it. Life is about finding that thing and becoming successful at it.”

Wes has a new single “Flavor”! Flavor was born as a concept about having confidence in a person’s individuality. Flavor is not limited to any age, ethnicity or culture but a personal confidence in genuinely being who you are. Take a listen to the single below.

AHH caught up with Wes to discuss his new record and much more. Check it out below!

Describe your sound.

My sound is an ever changing shape shifting, always evolving sound with his hands on his n*ts lol, I will always find something new to add or do to make it new and different. I wanna push the envelope as far as I can and still be me at the same time.

Take us back to where you are from, and tell us about your upbringing. How has this influenced your music?

I was born in Los Angeles, Ca but moved to Orlando, fl at the age of three years old. We moved to a little town called Eatonville (the oldest black town in america) where most of my childhood friends are now the neighborhood dope boy. You can’t help who you grow up around ya know, but they all knew I was always into different things like the music everybody was on back then was Pac, Biggie, Luke, and No limit, and there I was telling these n*ggas OutKast was the best. So me going against the grain is something that I not only live by but preach to others, and its def what I took from my upbringing.

What was the inspiration behind your track Flavor? What’s your definition of flavor?

Flavor was a record I made for everyone who is their own person, the people who aren’t afraid to be themselves and wear it everyday. The song was meant to be a theme song for people who have their own style. Flavor is the style in which you feel most comfortable… whoever you are that’s your flavor.

You seem to make genre bending music. Was that your goal to be able to cross over to many different genres and audiences?

Word!

Yeah man the goal has always been to reach as many people as I can, I have always done experimental music. It’s just now there is a real lane for it. I just love to be creative and push the limit as much as possible. I feel like there is an untapped market out there, and I’m bout to tap that thang feel me lol. I grew up on OutKast, so naturally my ear is different I don’t want to exclude anyone.

You’ve actually written and produced for a few artists in the game. For those who are just becoming familiar with your movement, drop some of those names for us.

I’ve produced for a few artists and really just getting into the writing for other artists thing. I feel like having a friend like Kevin Cossom show me the ropes really helped me master the craft of writing hits. He has written many hits and been in the music business for a long time working. So just being around, I really soak up as much as I can from him. I am really looking forward to working with different artists from all genres. Music is universal ya know.

What’s next for you? What other endeavors are you working on outside of music?

Next for me is continuing to push my new single “AllNighter” out now on all major outlets Itunes, Amazon, Cdbaby ect. Im gonna keep you guessing man; I got a lot of big things coming up man a lot of big things.

Whether on wax or not, Gunplay is always raw and uncut. AllHipHop CEO Chuck Creekmur recently caught up MMG’s wild boy at the Atlanta Music Festival and Conference to discuss the state of hip-hop, the status of his beef with 50 Cent and his view about his MMG brethren Meek Mill’s beef with Drake.

When discussing the current climate of rap, Don Logan said that frankly he “hates it.”

“I don’t like the state of hip-hop because there is no creativity,” he said. “Everybody sounds the same. Everybody sounds like Migos…One sound dictates the whole sound of the game for a year or two.”

Suge Knight And Katt Williams Plead Not Guilty In Robbery Case

Suge Knight and Katt Williams have pleaded not guilty in a robbery case where they are accused of stealing a female paparazzo camera, the Associated Press reports.

The two had to re-enter thier plea in a Los Angeles court yesterday (Oct. 27) after it was ruled that they will stand trial for the case.

Knight’s attorney is claiming that the former Death Row CEO was not involved in the matter, even though part of it was caught on video, showing him yelling expletives at Leslie Redden because he thought she was taking pictures of his young son.

“The only evidence that exists is he didn’t want his son photographed,” his lawyer Thomas Mesereau said at court. “Any father would have acted as he did.”

Redden alleges that there was a physical struggle for her camera, leaving her with injuries to her hands and wrists.

Is Trap Music More Popular Than Hip Hop With A Message?

Photo via Future’s Instagram

Power 105.1 recently held their annual Powerhouse concert at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Future performed at the end of the show, and it seems that after Future’s set many had had enough of the concert after he left the stage. Apparently a lot of people left the concert before seeing the last performer, Kendrick Lamar perform. Allegedly this caused K. Dot to have to perform to a half empty arena. Maybe people left because Kendrick performed after midnight, and most have to go to work the next day. Apparently this same thing happened at a Chicago show also. The question is: were people leaving before Kendrick hit the stage because he performed so late, or is trap music truly more popular than music with a message?

August Alsina’s Relative Claims He Is Gay & Had His Brother Killed!

August Alsina is apparently having family drama. The singer posted a screen shot of some text messages to his Instagram page with the caption “Messages from my family.” One of his family members is alleging that August is gay and that his whole album was a lie. The family member claims he was never homeless, and they stated that he had his own brother killed. Some fans wonder did August put this out there to the public to address it himself before it really hit the fan. There have been rumors swirling for a while about August’s sexuality. Could this just be a message from a broke and bitter family member, or do you think there’s any truth to his family member’s claims?

French Montana is one interesting fella. Lately the rapper seems to feel like he started the whole wave of doing collaboration tapes. French said,

“I did 3 tapes with max b 5 years ago you been under a rock homeboy we started the wave.”

HMMMM Facts of fiction? French seems to be a little off with this “started the wave” comment. Fans weren’t too kind as they reminded him of all of the collaborations that preceded his. Feel free to weigh in and bring French up to date.

Damon Dash Suggests He Was “Gaffled” By Jay Z, Not Sure If They Were Ever Friends (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) By now much of the history between Jay Z and Damon Dash has been documented in one form or another. But the two music business veterans will forever be tied together thanks to their former partnership at Roc-A-Fella Records. Jay even reflected on a past moment with Dash during his interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live last week.

[ALSO READ: Jay Z Defends Tidal, Talks Roc Nation Sports & Performs “Empire State Of Mind” (VIDEO)]

Dash conducted his own Q&A with Wiretapped, and Sharon Carpenter asked the Harlem representative if he caught Jay Z telling Kimmel about his first performance at the start of his careerDame remembered having to rap for Jay that night, because the Brooklyn rhymer forgot his own lyrics.

The conversation with Carpenter then turned to Dame and Jay’s current relationship. Dash expressed he still has an issue with the way the original Roc disbanded.

Dash said:

Roc-A-Fella was always available for me, but Jay made a point that I shouldn’t have it. I was thinking at the time, it must have been because he wanted it. But it couldn’t have been, because there’s no Roc-A-Fella no more. So what was the purpose of it? I never really understood if Jay was ever really my friend. Why would he do that to his man? He said it was business. But I didn’t see the business in it, because there’s no business of Roc-A-Fella anymore.

Dame added he only interacted with Jay for business reasons, but he did consider the platinum-selling artist his friend at one point. Dash now believes he was “gaffled,” suggesting Jay used him just to get into a certain position. Dame concluded by stating he could “care less” about a guy, but admitted the situation tested his trust in people.

It should be noted that Kanye West’s 808s & Heartbreak and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy albums are listed as Roc-A-Fella Records releases on iTunes. West’s Watch The Throne joint project with Jay Z is posted under Roc-A-Fella as well. All three LPs were released after Jay and Dame parted ways.

Does Young Thug Have His Eye On Caitlyn Jenner?

Photo via Young Thug’s Instagram

Young Thug certainly does it to himself and by now we’ve realized he does it on purpose. The rapper’s sexuality has always been in question, and it probably always will be for his antics and some of the things he says. While his action’s say another thing, Thugger maintains that he is a heterosexual man. Well so does Yusaf Mack, but that’s another story. As we know, Thugger likes Instagram, and he decided the first person he would follow is Caitlyn Jenner. It seems like he’s courting her early.

Vince Staples: “The 90’s Get A Lot Of Credit – I Don’t Really Know Why” (VIDEO/POLL)

(AllHipHop News) The 1990’s is routinely regarded as the high point of Hip Hop culture. It is practically impossible to measure the number of legendary emcees and classic albums to emerge from that decade. But is Hip Hop’s love for the 90’s based on merit or nostalgia?

1993 born rapper Vince Staples sat down with Time to discuss the 90’s era. According to the Summertime ’06 album creator, people may want to reevaluate their opinions on the Golden Era.

“The 90’s get a lot of credit. I don’t really know why. Biggie and 2Pac those were the staples of the 90’s. I think that’s why they get the ‘Golden Era’ credit,” stated Staples. “There’s not a 50 Cent in the 90’s. Did they even have a Kanye? Jay Z’s biggest song – his only number one – happened a couple of years ago. The early 2000’s is where it’s at.”

Vince goes on to name Bow Wow as one of his favorite rappers of all time. The Long Beach native also comments on his appreciation for all genres and artists keeping it real in their music.

EXCLUSIVE: A Rep For The Singer Who Sued Beyonce Over “XO” Issues Statement

(AllHipHop News) Ahmad Javon Lane filed a $3 million copyright infringement lawsuit against Beyoncé claiming the superstar ripped off his song “XOXO” for the Houston native’s “XO.” Javon claims he sent a copy of “XOXO” to one of Beyoncé’s backup singers in 2013. Bey’s “XO” appeared on her self-titled album released that same year.

A judge recently ruled in Beyoncé’s favor in the case. District Judge Paul Engelmayer concluded the two songs had little in common outside of the titles, but Javon may not be done with the legal fight.

A representative for Javon issued the following statement to AllHipHop.com:

The judge’s ruling in the lawsuit was unfortunate. Javon has stated that it is unclear how Beyoncé came across his song but it was shopped to close artists and producers of hers shortly before her version came out. Javon is disappointed with the judge’s ruling and is strongly considering fighting his case with an appeal. He is also corresponding with NASA which was sampled in Beyoncé’s “XO.”

-Domenick Nati (Nati Celebrity Services)

Some NASA astronauts and their families expressed their concern that “XO” included audio from the 1986 Challenger Space Shuttle disaster. Former NASA employee and founder of NASAWatch.com Keith Cowing called on Beyoncé to remove the audio from the song.
