Snoop Launches ‘Planet Earth’ Like Web-Show

(AllHipHop News)  Long Beach bred and Cali residing rapper Snoop Dogg has always had an affinity for plants and the green lifestyle.

Now the “Gin and Juice” rapper  is taking things one step further with his new show Planet Snoop.

Planet Snoop is derived from Snoop’s Plizzanet Earth (see below), a parody of the BBC  Emmy Award winning series, Planet Earth.

Launched via his cannabis culture site, Merry Jane, Snoop’s first episode is dubbed “Squirrel vs. Snake.”

In the episode Snoop narrates a battle between a California ground squirrel and a snake.

“If he can bust a nut, you know he can bust a snake head open, no problem!” Snoop says while smoking a blunt.

The new series is a joint venture with Jimmy Kimmel after more than 65,000 people signed a petition to get Snoop to narrate the series.

Did Iggy Azalea Take A Shot At Nicki Minaj?

Photo via Iggy Azalea’s Instagram

Iggy Azalea decided to shake things up just days after revealing that she once had suicidal thoughts. Iggy stopped by Bravo’s ‘Watch What Happens Live’, where host Andy Cohen took time out to highlight Nicki Minaj’s BET Awards acceptance speech. In the speech Nicki stated,

“If you hear Nicki spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it.”

Cohen went on to ask Iggy if she believes that was a shot at her, and how does she respond to critics who have issues with her not writing her own rhymes. Iggy replied saying,

“I have just as many people on my writing credits as she has on hers. I know I write mine, and if she writes hers, I believe her too. But you can’t look at the credits and be like, oh look at this massive difference! It’s the same number of people on both.”

Iggy says she doesn’t know if Nicki was taking a shot at her directly or not, but she’s only concerned when someone says her name as she doesn’t have time to speculate. Although Iggy didn’t say too much, it might not have been a good idea to stir up anything with Nicki Minaj, especially since Iggy stated that cyber-bullying made her have suicidal thoughts. Andy and Iggy were playing ‘I Plead The 5th,’ so maybe Iggy should’ve taken that option.

Photo via Jhene Aiko’s Instagram joint album

Rumor has it that Big Sean and Jhene Aiko have a joint album on the way. Perhaps this is the reason the two have been spending so much time together over the past year. The album may be released as a surprise since there hasn’t been any promo for it. Allegedly Big Sean believes the album will do well. A source close to the two says the album will have a nice combination of fast and slow beats with Sean rapping and Jhene singing the hooks? What are your thoughts? Are you a fan of Jhene Aiko’s music?

50 Cent Talks The Game, Bang Em Smurf, Ebro Darden & Competition In Hip Hop (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) The name 50 Cent has nearly become synonymous with Hip Hop beef. Over the last few months, 50 found himself in even more conflicts with former associate Bang Em Smurf and Hot 97 radio personality Ebro Darden. In contrast, it appears the hostilities between the G-Unit leader and ex-comrade The Game have settled down a bit.

50 spoke with Danny Diaz of Power 98 about a variety of topics including his recent noteworthy feuds. Check out some of the highlights below.

On issues with Ebro:

He’ll say it’s my fault that New York City Hip Hop ain’t what it was because of my momentum. I’m like, ‘You was the program director. You didn’t play the new music.” You mean to tell me nobody made a hit during the time I was… Everybody had hit music. It was his responsibility to play it at that point. I ruined it?

On competition in Hip Hop:

You gotta pick and choose based on what you feel the public perception of yourself is at that point – do you continue to pursue it or do you let it go? In the beginning, I used to respond to anything and everybody. I was not picking and choosing who it is – if you want some, come get some. That’s because our culture is competitive. I felt like if you weren’t competing then you lost a big part of what Hip Hop is about.

On Bang Em Smurf alleging 50 put a hit on his life:

[Smurf] was like, “Yo, he tried to get me killed.’ He saw somebody in a room that shot at him. They’re all in the neighborhood. They’re gonna shoot each other anyway in the neighborhood. Now you put it together that I was getting you killed at that point because you saw them in the video with me? Nah man, he might have wanted to kill you for recreational purposes. You was saying some sh*t you wasn’t supposed to be saying… There was no specific situation where they were told to knock him off. He felt like that. When I saw he said that, I was like, “I wouldn’t do that. I don’t have that kind of sh*t on my heart for him.” He’s still one of my pee wees. He was alright.

On The Game showing love to 50’s Effen vodka:

I don’t know what that is. I don’t know what it is. It’s not even on his Instagram [anymore]. Sometimes you do stuff and you don’t even know if you mean it. The [cell phone] is right there in your pocket, so if you’re drinking that don’t matter. He took it down. He fixed it. As soon as he started to sober up, he took it off… I’m not concerned with it. I think either way, if he liked the product, then it’s cool. If he likes the TV show, cool. I’m not angry at his stuff when I see it.

“Phife really introduced me to actually taking it seriously to rap. I’ve known Phife since I was like 4 years old. We went to church and everything,” said Q-Tip. “We sang in the harmony choir, all that stuff, and he was always the one feeding me with different little things. He’s the one who kinda put it in me that I could rhyme, because he was always rhyming.”

He continued, “Phife was like, ‘Yo, man. We can rap. Listen to [Slick] Rick. You know, you been listening to that joint for weeks. That’s your lane.’ Basically, in that kind of way, he was saying that. So, he pushed me to rhyme.”

Killah Priest Discusses Being Openly Secular & How Religion Divides People (VIDEO)

During an interview with Mandisa Thomas of Black Nonbelievers, Walter “Killah Priest” Reed revealed he now no longer subscribes to any doctrine. Reed showed his support for Openly Secular, a campaign to eliminate discrimination and increase acceptance of atheists, freethinkers, agnostics, humanists, and other non-religious people.

“I’m not religious. Someone told me before that religion keeps everything divided. You can’t really kick it if your mom is a Jehovah Witness and you’re a Baptist. There’s no unity,” said Priest. He also challenged non-believers to be vocal about their views on religion.

The 45-year-old Brooklyn native has become known for addressing spirituality in his music. Priest’s most recent album, Planet of the Gods, was filled with religious and mystic references.

Boxer Adrien Broner Wanted For Assault In Ohio

With little more than one week until his title defense on April 1, 2016 at the DC Armory in Washington, DC of his WBA Super World super lightweight title belt against contender Ashley Theopane (39-6-1, 11KOs), boxing superstar Adrien “The Problem” Broner (31-2,23KOs) would seem to have a very serious legal problem by way of a warrant issued for his arrest for felonious assault and aggravated robbery in his home town of Cincinnati, Ohio stemming from an incident in the early morning hours on January 21, 2016 involving high stakes betting.

As per The Cincinnati Enquirer, Broner and the alleged victim, Christopher Carson had been bowling against one another at Madison Bowl that evening, wagering amounts that escalated to as high as $6000.00 a game.  According to court documents attained by The Enquirer, Carson won $8000.00 to Broner, who then ran out of cash and made another bet on credit for $6000.00, which Broner then also lost to Carson. $14000.00 down, Broner suggested to Carson that they make another wager for $6000.00.  When Carson refused, according to these same court documents, Broner subsequently “became upset and left the bowling alley.”

When Mr. Carson left Madison Bowl later that night at around 3:30 AM, as reported originally by The Cincinnati Enquirer, Broner was lying in wait for Carson in the alley of Madison Bowl with eight other men. It is then alleged that Broner physically assaulted Carson with his bare hands, nearly knocking Carson unconscious.  Then, according to court documents attained by TMZ Sports, Broner “retrieved a handgun from his vehicle, approached the victim, demanded money, then struck [the victim] in the face with a closed fist a second time, this time causing the victim to be rendered unconscious.”

Carson claims that when he finally regained consciousness from the assault that left him with a split chin, the $12000.00 in cash that he had previously had on his person was gone. The suit also states that witnesses saw Broner taking money from Carson’s pockets while Carson was still unconscious.

While Broner has downplayed the whole incident via a less than eloquent text response to ESPN reporter Dan Rafael, which Broner has posted on his instagram account, it would seem that Carson’s legal defense team via attorney Chris Finney is looking to paint a detailed pattern of abuse as a key part of it’s defense and method of recourse from Broner:

“Adrien seems to have a penchant for walking around town and slugging people,” said Finney, per the Enquirer, adding, “We want it to stop.”

As of this report, Broner has not been taken into custody and it would appear that his fight on April 1st, set to be televised live on Spike TV, is not in jeopardy.

Cornell University To Preserve Afrika Bambaataa’s Rare Record Collection

(AllHipHop News) Afrika Bambaataa, who just completed a three-year term as a visiting scholar at the Cornell University, will have his complete DJ collection archived by the Cornell Library Hip-Hop Collection.

Thanks to a grant of ($260,000) from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Bambaataa’s records will be available to researchers, students and the public, this according to the Cornell Chronicle.

Known as the “Godfather of Hip-Hop” and the “Father of Electro-Funk”  Bambatta is an international recognized pioneer of Hip-Hop.

Before becoming a famous hip hop DJ, in the 1960’s and 1970’s Afrika Bambaataa was the warlord of a Bronx gang named the Black Spades.

He went on to form the Universal Zulu Nation on November 12, 1973.

Afrika is reportedly the one that contrived Hip-Hop’s name and coined the basic elements of the genre (DJing, rapping, breakdancing and graffiti art).

“This unique, hand-inscribed documentation by one of hip-hop’s founding DJs will enable students and scholars to reconstruct hip-hop’s invention through its most celebrated and influential collection of records,” said Katherine Reagan on behalf of Cornell. “In preserving Bambaataa’s archive and making it open and accessible, Cornell University Library will support a growing body of international scholars and educators who study hip-hop not only for its global influence on popular music, art and style, but its role in articulating social and political issues.”

The 2007 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee’s record collection includes hundreds of boxes amounting to 450 containers with 20,000 vinyl records, most of which are annotated by Bambaataa himself.

Whats more amazing is that the records are in a chronological order by the date of purchase.

Ultimately, Cornell’s seeks to create a complete list of Bambaataa’s legendary vinyl that will be available to the public with images of album sleeves fully annotated.

Iconic Photographer Lisa Leone To Reveal Hidden Images Of Hip-Hop History

(AllHipHop News) Today (March 24th) iconic Hip-Hop photographer Lisa Leone is revealing never before seen images of some of Hip-Hop’s most iconic figures at a new exhibition of her work.

The unveiling takes place in Dubai and continues on through April 5th at the Sole DXB exhibition, in Dubai’s Design District.

Leone is a Bronx native that was raised in the belly of Hip-Hop’s birthplace during Hip-Hop’s “Golden Era.”

She captured a wide range of artists from Nas, to Snoop, to Hip-Hop legend DJ Grandmaster Flash (see images below)

Some of her most famous work includes photos of Nas while he was recording his first album, Illmatic, B.I.G., Big Daddy Kane, Wyclef Jean and Lauryn Hill during the filming of the Fugees’ “Vocab.” She also captured Eazy-E on the set of Run-D.M.C.’s “Down With the King” video.

Lisa got her start at the High School of Art & Design which she describes as, “the high school of graffiti and break-dancing in the 80’s. ”

Other notable graduates from the school include  Fab Five Freddy, Lee Quiñones (Wild Style), Pharoahe Monch, Mobb Deep, Fabolous and A$AP Ferg.

“All of the graffiti artists and dancers that are famous now for doing their thing were at Art & Design with me. So they were like ‘Hey Lisa let’s go take pictures, take pictures of me!” Lisa explained in a video piece by her publisher Minor Matters Books.  “Back in the day nobody had cameras, nobody had camera phones, it was simpler it just felt more raw.”

“I’m very excited about coming back to Dubai… although my last visit was short, I could still feel the enthusiasm and passion for a culture so close to my heart. The artists I met and photographed were so open and warm, I’m looking forward to my return,” she told emirateswoman.com.

In addition to the display of rare photos, Leone will be showing photos from her book Here I Am.

Check the video above of an interview where Lisa describes the development of her craft as a photographer and you can see more images.

Former Republican Blames Obama For Terrorist Attacks As Act From God

(AllHipHop News) In a new level of bipartisan passing the buck, former Tea Party Republican, and failed 2012 Republican Presidential Nominee hopeful Michele Bachmann, who represented Minnesota’s 6th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives from 2007 until 2015, has invoked God’s wrath and President Barack Obama as the culprit and instigator when it comes to the current egregious state of global terrorism and terrorist attacks around the globe.

In an article that Bachmann wrote today for WorldNetDaily, the former representative called the 44th President of the United States “little big man” and proclaimed, “we aren’t all the same. We don’t believe the same things, nor do we hold to the same values,” as she extrapolated from current world events that God is using recent terrorism in Brussels, Paris and elsewhere as a doomsday method of “humiliating” Obama for his overall “foolishness” in the face of what her ideal Republican party leadership would do with regards to international security, international relations and general diplomacy for America.

Religion and politics are seldom good bedfellows – as suggested by our nation’s staunch separation of Church and State.  However, to briefly play by Ms. Bachmann’s rules in critiquing our current president, perhaps she would do well to be more inclusive of everything that she can borrow from what she liberally cites as ” Western Christian” values to further bolster her decidedly religious attack of “our feckless U.S. President”.  To that end, she has conveniently ignored the theology behind Ephesians 4:29: “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”   Considering that Ms. Bachmann would seem eager to posit herself as a pious political watchdog, this biblical entreaty to not say anything if you have nothing good to say or good to contribute to a situation, might be the more prudent ticket for a failed 2012 Republican Presidential hopeful who is for all practical matters completely out of the current political game.
