#ATLRiseUp: MMG’s Tracy T Is On A Mission To Get His Hustle Up In More Ways Than Just Music

In just half a decade, Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group has established itself as one of the most productive companies in Hip Hop. The record imprint already owns six number one albums from Ross, Wale, and Meek Mill. Fellow Maybach representatives Gunplay and Stalley have also dropped well received LPs over the last two years.

MMG describes itself as an “untouchable empire.” In order for the “House That Ross Built” to continue its reign at the top of the charts, new princes must be crowned. In 2013, the Bawse made a move to help maintain Double M’s kingdom when he officially signed Atlanta rapper Tracy T to the label. According to the “Legit” rhymer, Rick Ross offers him more than just a stamp of approval.

“Ross is already rich, but he’s one of them dudes that keeps wanting to motivate you,” Tracy tells AllHipHop.com. “When Ross is talking, it’s different from anybody else talking. He motivates you to go get some money and be one of the greatest.”

Ricky Rozay is not the only person in MMG that Tracy has embraced as a mentor. Meek serves as a confidante as well. During the recent dustup between the Dream Chasers founder and OVO’s Drake, Tracy was on the social media frontlines defending his labelmate.

“Meek is like a brother to me. I f*ck with Meek so strong,” discloses Tracy. “Meek’s one of those dudes that says, ‘Come on, let’s do it. I’m gonna show you this sh*t. You’re gonna get sh*t too.’ He’s one of those real dudes that showed me a lot when I first came in the game. We’re all a team – iron sharpens iron.”

Since joining Maybach, Tracy has taken the baton and built a notable buzz off key features and his own DJ Scream hosted mixtapes. However, it was more than just a potent co-sign that allowed Tracy Richardson to go from a childhood in the traps of Decatur to living in a luxury high-rise apartment building in North Atlanta.

Those pre-MMG days included a young Tracy maneuvering through the perils of a hustler’s lifestyle, but the experience provided him with a level of discipline he applies to his current occupation.

“I’m from the streets, so I just apply the same hustle to the music industry. I had to learn the music industry, but it’s really the same kind of hustle,” says Tracy. “I just feel like I got the work, and I’m gonna sling it. The more I drop the work, the more I’m gonna put it out, and the more it’s gonna get sold. That’s how you become a kingpin in the streets. I got a crazy hustle and a crazy plug. I’m trying to be the kingpin of the music game.”

Tracy is now slinging musical projects, and he’s establishing a considerable cabal of fiends waiting for the next re-up. His 85,000 Instagram followers and 46,000 Twitter followers form a social network which patiently waited to cop his latest release – 50 Shades Of Green.

For the 2014 collection The Wolf Of All Streets, Tracy tapped his MMG comrades Meek, Gunplay, and Ross as well as ATL natives Que and Offset. But the big-name guests on 50 Shades included collaborators from outside his home team and hometown.

The 15-track mixtape has tunes with Yo Gotti, Boosie Badazz, and Shy Glizzy. Portions of the production were provided by hit makers Jahlil Beats, Childish Major, Sonny Digital, and Beat Billionaire. In addition, the latter sound architect played a significant part in Tracy eventually etching his name on the dotted line with Rozay.

Tracy states, “Beat Billionaire has been a longtime friend. He introduced me to Ross. That’s how I got to MMG. That’s my homie for life.”

Both The Wolf Of All Streets and 50 Shades Of Green display Tracy has an extended connection to some of the top producers in the culture, and the self-confessed perfectionist is known to spend entire days in Atlanta’s Twelve Studios writing to their beats. 50 Shades was only uploaded to the web a week ago, but the effort that went into crafting Tracy’s most recent release has been in the making for months.

“My tape had been done, but I kept recording, kept recording, and kept recording. I could have been put some sh*t out, but I just wanted to be happy with my work. I wanted to be happy with my art,” he explains. “I got into a zone. I was in a 50 Shade Of Green state of mind. I had to get comfortable with myself, comfortable with my tape in order to even produce the feeling in the studio to make the project.”

50 Shades Of Green is an obvious reference to E. L. James’ popular erotic romance novel Fifty Shades of Grey and the Sam Taylor-Johnson directed film of the same name. But Tracy T flipped the “fifty shades” to reflect his focus on the numerous ways he plans to rise through the ranks.

“The title represents different levels in the game, different shades in the game, different levels of paper, and different ways to get the paper,” clarifies Tracy.

Rap is just the first step in Tracy’s mission to increase the digits in his bank account. At the moment, he’s building his Money Bound brand with his day-one allies, and listeners can expect to hear TT contributions on Maybach’s forthcoming compilation Self Made Vol. 4.

Film endeavours and corporate partnerships are likely to come in the future as well. Jay Z, the quintessential hustler-turned-rapper-turned-businessman, functions as Tracy’s financial inspiration from afar.

“I look at music as the first platform, and everything else comes after that. It’s all part of the beginning stages. I start with the music, and then it branches off to acting, endorsements, and other things,” conveys Tracy. “I don’t look at myself as being just a rapper. I’m trying to spread my wings and fly. I gotta be an eagle out here.”

As the music industry shifts from CDs and downloads to streaming, artists are having to get accustomed to a modern business model. Tracy T came up in the Internet Age, but as a street-centered performer it is fair to wonder how will the industry’s nearly complete shift to the digital space affect his reach to his core base of support.

“It’s all about adapting to what’s going on. In order for a soldier to survive in the field he has to adapt to every climate, every situation. We ain’t nothing but some more soldiers in the field, and if you can’t adapt to what’s going on, you’ll be left behind. It’s not affecting me. I just got to switch the game up to continue moving,” he says.

While Tracy has been putting rhymes together since he was in elementary school, the East Side spitter’s career direction over the last three years has put him on the path to becoming one of the brightest emerging stars from Atlanta. His hustle is nowhere near complete. By 2020, Tracy T envisions himself standing among the elites in the entertainment realm.

“I see my label jumping off the ground. I see movies. I see a lot of different things launching from this platform. I see myself growing in the game as a boss, not just an artist,” Tracy declares. “I’m building an empire. Just like Rozay. Just like Meek. I’m on the same team. You see what they’ve done in just a few years. I got the same ability to do it.”

According to sources with the site, viewers should not expect Rose and Chyna’s series to be a ratchet affair à la Love & Hip Hop, Bad Girls Club, and Basketball Wives. The show is said to focus on the single mothers raising their respective boys and pursuing their careers which is more in the vein of La La’s Full Court Life and Nellyville.

Amber Rose is the mother of Wiz Khalifa’s son Sebastian. Black Chyna is the mother of Tyga’s son King Cairo. Neither rapper is still romantically linked with their child’s mom.

Lil Wayne Talks ‘Straight Outta Compton’ Movie & Rodney King Beating Verdict (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Lil Wayne stopped by ESPN2’s First Take to discuss the latest topics in the world of sports. The Young Money rapper also spoke about the record-breaking N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton.

[ALSO READ: ‘Straight Outta Compton’ Hauls In $60 Million Opening Weekend, Sets Box Office Records]

“The movie was amazing. I was a huge N.W.A fan,” said Wayne. “I walked away from the movie feeling like I never rapped a word in my life. I was just a fan.”

Weezy went on to add that their were certain moments in the film that felt very real too him. When co-host Stephen A. Smith asked him which particular scene stood out as authentic, the New Orleans born rapper mentioned the section that focused on the 1991 beating of Rodney King by LAPD officers. The incident was caught on videotape.

“When Eazy-E was sitting next to his woman and he was watching the verdict for the cops, he cried,” Wayne pointed out. “That’s something that’s so specific that I’m not going to tell them, ‘ Hey, make sure I cry when the cops get a verdict.’ I believe that had to happen.”

He continued, “If you would have ask me, ‘Do you think Eazy-E cares about the verdict?’ I would have said, ‘No, I don’t think he knows what the verdict is.'”

Wayne also admitted he cried when he found out the four officers charged with use of excessive force were not found guilty by a jury. The surprising verdict sparked the 1992 Los Angeles riots.

Lil Wayne’s “Lil Weezyana Fest” is streaming live this Friday (August 28) exclusively on Tidal.

The Notorious B.I.G.’s “Juicy” Has Been Translated Into Shakespearean Language

(AllHipHop News) For anyone that may have ever wondered what the poetry of The Notorious B.I.G. would sound like written by William Shakespeare, The Royal Frontier translated Biggie’s breakout hit record “Juicy” into the language of The Bard.

The website explained its task of turning the 1994 single off Big’s Ready To Die into the 16th Century English playwright’s metrical line:

This is the first installment in a series of classic rap songs translated into Shakespearean iambic pentameter. Every word appears in the works of Shakespeare except ‘ledger’ and ‘persevere.’ However, both words date back to late-Middle English and were in use during Shakespeare’s life.

Juicy

‘Twas but a dream sowed by antique texts —
Two delicious spices, one well fed man
United in an opulent carriage.
I decorated my dwelling with art
To honor those whose station I hope’d to
Achieve. Thus, I play’d ’til I could no more,
Focus’d, pausing only for herb and ale.
I cringe at old, ashamed memories
And the period of darkness before,
But remembrance reminds me of my quest.
How far I have come! My dream fulfilled.
Strangers surround me and praise my talents
And I enjoy rewards once so foreign.
As my fame grows, so too does my ledger.
A victim of Eve’s curse, I struggl’d for
Sorry scraps that men of fortune ignore.
Yet, despite my desperate beginnings,
Sage prophets forecasted my future feats.
Their faith inspired me to persevere.
Now, though I have fulfill’d my potential,
I embrace my origin. I am well.
If thou were unsure, thou knowest now, Moor.

To thine own self be true, a wise man said.
Free from binds to step galliards in the stars.
Let nothing interfere with thine crusade.
Once devoted, thou shalt win thine rewards

My fortune keeps an upward course, from thief
To gossip’s feasts among noble masters.
I stay generous and share my pleasures
With my whole flock so that they may partake
In the true-hearted spirit of our town.
In a pickle from mead and Canary,
Thinking of impudent maidens who burn’d
me but now yearn and compose me sonnets.
Poesy craft hath rescued a rotten life
Mired in infamy and violence.
Gamesters press me close as toasts-and-butter
From the Thames clear through to blanched Dover.
I repair to my mansion, contented,
While the vulgar visit that I may recite
To public ear in firm security.
Yea, my cherish’d daughter sparkles with spoils
As I grant favors beside sapphire pool.
Maligned for supposed ignorance!
E’er unheeded for my begrimed face,
Anointed majesty, a lord, His Grace.

To thine own self be true, a wise man said.
Free from binds to step galliards in the stars
Let nothing interfere with thine crusade
Once devoted, thou shalt win thine rewards

I pass time with billiards, primero, trump,
Such fanciful pursuits I never dreamt.
I sit in the wings above the groundlings
Atop fine leathern cushions of em’rald.
Two carriages of liberal conceit
At my service, plus my swift messengers,
Cost a purse, which, yea, needn’t trouble me.
My devoted brood repose as gentry.
Each day a high festival honoring
Our ascent from terrible wretchedness.
My mother, richly suited in fin’ry,
Is now a proud and doting courtier
Who trods on those to whom we were but soil
Fit only for paying tribute to them.
Woeful Christmas. No pagentry indeed.
We spirit our blood with fine wine from France
Remembering past, savoring present
For once life was harsh, now it is pleasant.

Sha Money XL Calls 50 Cent A Cheap “Walmart Ass N*gga”

(AllHipHop News) 50 cent and Sha Money XL were once business associates, but the former G-Unit affiliates’ friendship seems to be clearly over at the moment. 50 had been taking aim at the Epic Records executive for months over what he saw as a lack of support for incarcerated rapper Bobby Shmurda. Then over the weekend, the Queens mogul addressed Sha Money again.

Tyga Raps About Underage Sex…With Kylie?

Kylie Jenner may be 18 now, but some new lyrics from Tyga seem to pay homage to his girlfriend’s underage status. Tyga does not specifically name the Kardashian clan member.

The song “Stimulated” seems to suggests he’s cool with having sex with underage girls.

“They say she is young/ I shoulda waited. She a big girl, dog, when she stimulated/She a big girl dog, I’m puttin’ in. Yeah I’m penetrating,” he says on the song. To make matters more confounding, the song seemingly samples or re-plays the melody to “Children” by Robert Miles.

Kylie became legal this month and Tyga is still 25.

Adrian Swish – ‘On The Set: Crips & Bloods’ ft Dave East, Icewear Vezzo, Dubb, Glasses Malone

Adrian Swish of Tha Alumni Music Group has been on the Hip-Hop scene for awhile doing PR, hosting mixtapes and most recently managing the career of rising Compton artist, AD. What hasn’t been seen is the time he has spent in the hoods of Los Angeles, talking to the people living a lifestyle, most only see on TV screens involving 2 sets, the Crips and the Bloods.

What he found was, that there was something going on that the mainstream media wasn’t reporting. While most of what you hear and see is the violence between the two gangs, there is also a new rising of unity between the two entities, as they have found that they can respect and love each other, no matter what side they represent through. “On The Set: Crips & Bloods” is the mirror of this new reality.

The project starts off with a nod to the 1993 classic, “Bangin On Wax” with a track from an original member of the Bloods & Crips group, Big Wy. Fresh off the remix of YG’s, “Bickin’ Back Bein’ Bool”, the OG Blood releases an aggressive record, “Day Onez”. Joined by Compton’s Blue Pit, AD, the track keeps in line with the lineage of gangsta rap coming out of the Los Angeles for decades, while still using some of the popular bounce of today. Other features include AD, Bricc Baby, RJ, Dave East, Icewear Vezzo, DUBB, Slim 400, King Trell, Glasses Malone, Savuge, Jay Worthy, Earl Swavey, HopOut, Smoove, Hitta J3, G Perico and more. Most of Production is provided by emerging producer Larry Jayy, other producers include Imfamous Beats, David Wesson, Boomer, Mr Freeze, and Beat Lee.

This is a must listen. Stop the violence.

Tyga – “Glitta”

In light of the release of his new mixtape “F## Wat They Talkin Bout”, Tyga delivers visuals for the project’s standout track “Glitta”. The video sees Tyga swim through the streets of L.A. in his Bugatti and lord over the Beverly Hills skyline. Peep homie’s pad – thing is so sick!

Ezra Carr – “Want None” (P###. Justice League)

Zone 6 up and comer Ezra Carr gets a big co-sign from Justice League on his debut single “Want None”. This will be featured on his forthcoming mixtape “Book Of Ezra,” which is set to be hosted by CTE’s own DJ Kutthroat.

24 HRS Of Peace: An Emcee’s Plea

On the average day in Newark, New Jersey, the corner of Clinton and Bergen Streets is a war zone, a violent hotbed. The heat comes from the bullets that sometimes whiz by, and from the block being “hot” from the drug trade and the police’s (overly) watchful eye. But then there’s one day each year on that same corner that is anything but average.

24 HRS Of Peace is Hip-Hop’s offering to a world where young people have an opportunity to truly discover their individual intrinsic value to self and their connection to community. To that end, the Hip-Hop Culture’s core ethos of “peace, love, unity and safely having fun” is the back drop for the 5th annual gathering we produce each year with Newark Mayor Ras Baraka.

The Baraka name comes with a legacy of strength and action. 24 HRS Of Peace is privileged to have his support as a tool to address the rising tides of violence within the nation and our city.

24 hours of peace

I believe that Hip-Hop is the perfect solution to many of the ills we see in our community. It fosters self expression, it engages using culturally relevant content, and it provides the environment where young people optimistically take part – where self-expression and resources thrive, violence cannot. Hip-Hop, over the last 30 years, has become an economic force, and many of the skills associated with Hip-Hop are transferable to other areas of life and business.

Creativity has always the key to our economic upliftment as people of color. DJ skills opens the door to audio engineering, stage production, etc., with some DJs in 2015 consulting million dollar companies. A love for graffiti arts opens doors to all kinds of professions where an artistic eye and canvas are involved. The emcee is not just an emcee anymore, and the likes of Jay-Z and 50 Cent show and prove the point that we wield vast economic power and potential. Hip/Hop can be used to identify skill sets that naturally flow from the person…even those who don’t possess a college degree or opportunities afforded to the masses.

But what we sometimes lack is structure. 24 HRS Of Peace is structured to do this work in a very specific way. The annual concert is only one part of our mission. The most important feature of our work is the aftercare, the year-round work of our partners that is showcased in order to inform the community, as we engage and entertain during the concert.

It’s our work, in coordination with Mayor Baraka, across different platforms that makes 24 HRS Of Peace an important initiative to support. Our partners for this year’s event are GrassROOTS Community Foundation (co-led by Roots emcee Black Thought), 211 Community Impact, and Giant Thinking. My mission, with the help of these and many others, is to improve the lives of young people in Newark and beyond.

So, 24 HRS Of Peace is more than giving back – it’s my vision and Hip-Hop’s intentional effort to stop the violence by celebrating our unity and our power. 24 HRS Of Peace is my offering, within my ability, to bring about change in my own corner of the world. Now I ask…Hip-Hop, what will the rest of you do?

Hakim Green

Hakim Green of Channel Live is an emcee, activist, educator, and the founder of Newark’s 24 HRS Of Peace. Join him on Friday, August 28 at 6PM until Saturday, August 29 at 6PM for 24 HRS Of Peace 2015 (Clinton & Bergen Streets, Newark, NJ)
