Black History Month: Aminah The Warrior Queen

Aminah of ZazZau (1533-1610), commonly known as The Warrior Queen, exemplified the term bada$$. The she was a leader with few peer. She expanded the territory where she lived, and unified the Hausa people of north Africa, modern day Nigeria, to the largest borders in history. Oddly enough, her real life persona would be the model for the wholly fictional television series “Xena Warrior Princess.” Ain’t that a bish?

Here is more on Amina The Warrior Queen:

Amina was born around 1533 in Zaria, a province of today’s Nigeria. She was the daughter of Bakwa of Turunku. Their family’s wealth was derived from the trade of leather goods, cloth, kola, salt, horses and imported metals.

When Bakwa died in 1566, the crown of Zazzua passed to Amina’s younger brother, Karama. Their sister, Zaria, fled the region and little is known about her.

Although Bakwa’s reign was known for peace and prosperity, Amina chose to hone her military skills from the warriors of the Zazzau military. As a result, she emerged as leader of the Zazzua cavalry. Many accolades, great wealth, and increased power resulted from her numerous military achievements.

When her brother Karama died after a ten-year rule, Amina had matured into a fierce warrior and had earned the respect of the Zazzau military and she assumed the reign of the kingdom.

Amina led her first military charge a few months after assuming power. For the rest of her 34 year reign, she continued to fight and expand her kingdom to the greatest in history. The objective for initiating so many battles was to make neighbouring rulers her vassal and permit her traders safe passage. In this way, she boosted her kingdom’s wealth and power with gold, slaves, and new crops. Because her people were talented metal workers, Amina introduced metal armor, including iron helmets and chain mail, to her army.

To her credit, she fortified each of her military camps with an earthen wall. Later, towns and villages sprung up within these protective barriers. The walls became known as Amina’s Walls and many of them remain in existence to this day.

According to legend, Amina refused to marry and never bore children. Instead, she took a temporary husband from the legions of vanquished foes after every battle. After spending one night together, she would condemn him death in the morning in order to prevent him from ever speaking about his sexual encounter with the queen.

Legend also decrees she died during a military campaign at Atagara near Bida in Nigeria. Her exploits earned her the moniker Amina, daughter of Nikatau, a woman as capable as a man. Her legendary escapades made her the model for the television series Xena Warrior Princess. Today, her memory represents the spirit and strength of womanhood.

50 Cent Reportedly Makes $29,000 A Month From Music Royalties

(AllHipHop News) By now, much of 50 Cent’s financial situation has become public knowledge. The “In Da Club” rapper famously filed for bankruptcy last year, but a new report by DJBooth suggests 50 is still bringing in nearly $350,000/year from music royalties.

Documents from 50’s bankruptcy filing have made their way online, and a paper labeled “individual debtor cash receipts and cash disbursements” show the G-Unit boss made $28,963.23 from royalties in December.

According to the Wall Street Journal, 50 (born Curtis Jackson) sold half of his on-air radio play royalty rights to Kobalt Music Group for $3 million several years ago. He then sold the other half in 2015 for another $3 million.

However, the deal allowed for the Queens native to collect some percentage of the royalties again after Kobalt recoups the $3 million advance. In addition, 50 still owns the rights to sell his albums, only having to pay for distribution.

Forbes estimated 50 Cent’s net worth to be around $155 million in May 2015, but that was before he filed for bankruptcy in July. In December, reports began to circulate that 50 now owes at least $28 million to various debtors.

Drake Hints Popular U.K. Series ‘Top Boy’ Could Be Returning

(AllHipHop News) There have been rumors for months that Drake was going to be involved in reviving the popular British crime drama Top Boy. The series ran for two seasons in the United Kingdom, but it earned a significant following in the United States after being added to the streaming platform Netflix.

Earlier this morning (February 4), Drake posted a picture of two Top Boy stars to his Instagram page. The caption for the photo read, “Top Boy will rise again.”

Only 8 episodes of the show were originally created. The last season of Top Boy ran on Channel 4 in the U.K. back in 2013. The series featured rapper-turned-actors Ashley “Asher D” Walters (Get Rich or Die Tryin’) and Kane “Kano” Robinson (Tower Block).

“We were going into meetings. Top Boy is the sort of brand we knew would sell to Netflix, Amazon. The numbers speak for themselves,” said Ashley last year. “So we had that power and the production company still owned the rights. And Drake made an offer and they turned it down. I don’t know what is going on with it – but I heard they are talking about a Top Boy Chicago.”

Billboard then ran a story stating the cover on Kanye’s Twitter timeline was “fake.” Kanye returned to the social media platform to address Billboard, telling the publication “never refer to anything that me and Tyler do as fake out of respect for musicians.”

As of press time, Billboard has not changed the headline for its story about Kanye’s alleged RS cover. In addition, Tyler posted a tweet that seems to confirm he believed the cover was real as well.

Fox Wins Lawsuit Against Empire Distribution Over ‘Empire’ Title

(AllHipHop News) A California federal judge ruled that Twentieth Century Fox Television can keep the name “Empire” for its popular music drama. Fox filed a declaratory suit against San Francisco based Empire Distribution, and the record label/publishing company then filed a counter suit against the network.

[ALSO READ: Empire Distribution Responds To Fox Network’s Lawsuit Over “Empire” Show]

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the judge sided with Fox on the case because the corporation is protected by the First Amendment to name its series and Empire Distribution’s claims that consumers could be confused by the matching names was less important than Constitutional rights.

“The word ‘Empire’ is clearly relevant to Fox’s work because the Empire Series tells the story of characters struggling for literal control over an entertainment company called ‘Empire Enterprises,’ and figurative control over the vast ’empire’ that Lucious Lyon has built. Additionally, the Empire Series is set in New York, the Empire State,” wrote U.S. District Judge Percy Anderson.

Anderson added, “Moreover, it would be a perverse result if Fox’s use of ‘Empire’ would be protected if Fox had claimed that the Empire Series was in some minimal way a commentary on Empire Distribution, but the use would not be protected if, as is the case here, Fox had disclaimed any such use.”

Empire Distribution has worked with Kendrick Lamar, Cam’ron, Too $hort, T.I., The Game, and Rich Homie Quan. The company has recently released projects by Tyga, Daz & Snoop Dogg, Anderson .Paak, and Freddie Gibbs.

Young Thug & Future Exchange Subliminal Disses Online

(AllHipHop News) Two of Atlanta’s most talked about rap stars do not seem to be feeling each other at the moment. Young Thug and Future posted several tweets yesterday that appear to be directed at the other.

[ALSO READ: Future Reportedly Debuting New Album On DJ Khaled’s Beats 1 Radio Show]

Future announced he is dropping his next album EVOL this week (his second project of 2016), and the Purple Reign mixtape creator also revealed he signed a deal with Apple. Thug posted a tweet with the words “slow down dropping all that BS music” which came off as a subliminal diss towards the Freebandz leader.

Future later sent out a tweet that read “b*tch wish u was me… in real life.” Thug fired back with several more tweets that included the “F Cancer” rhymer saying, “I hope Apple save u lil n*ggas.”

Last year, Thug also got into a Twitter feud with Future’s main producer Metro Boomin. The two eventually settled their beef, and some people speculated the Thugger/Metro spat may have just been a publicity stunt.

Styles P, Jadakiss and Some Beautiful Women Drops Straight Crack On “22 Convent”

(AllHipHop Music) Styles P and Jadakiss are a duo that has never been formally announced, but they make really dope music together. Now, after so many years, they come back with yet another banger. And, they brought Tatted Up Holly, Kimberly Colon, Ayisha Diaz, Yaya Flawless, and Jadakiss. The video plays out like a modern day version of “Set It Off.” The cinematography is dope. Scratch that: Riveting. The viewer really gets realistic view of these ladies lives and the extreme struggle that goes with it. No spoilers here. You have to see the star-studded ending of this mini-movie.

Is Young Thug Sneak Dissing Future?

(AllHipHop Rumors) It seems like Young Thug is on Twitter shading Future. This could be wrong because Young Thug claims he will NOT sneak diss, but the evidence says otherwise.

First of all, Future just announced a new album with a new deal with Apple. He speaks about “running out of gas” and disses “Slime Season 3,” the venture with Future.

Bad Boy: Look At Loon TODAY!

(AllHipHop Rumors) Loon has been in jail quite a bit of time now. He was put in the bing on drug charged, I am told. Anyway, French Montana recently posted “#FreeLoon” and posted the following picture. Some of the comments were quite ignorant, but it seems like the former Bad Boy is staying true to his spiritual and religious beliefs.

Martin Shkreli Continues To Taunt Ghostface: I’ll Smack Him On Sight

(AllHipHop News) There has been an interesting exchange between two unlikely characters. The legendary lyricist, Ghostface Killah, has voiced his opinion about Martin Shkreli. As an established pharmaceutical and financial exec, their paths would become entangled following Shkreli’s $2 M purchase of the Wu-Tang Clan’s, Once Upon A Time In Shaolin.

Last Thursday (Jan. 28), Shkreli released a satirical video where he insulted Ghostface Killah. When speaking to The Breakfast Club, illuminated his actions for the radio show. He said, “At the end of the day, it definitely felt like the guy was taking shots at me. In the Hip-Hop game, as we all know, it’s hard to be on the receiving end of those types of things…”

After Charlamagne challenged his contention, Martin then remarked, “It’s a man thing…” After being labeled as a “sh*thead” by the world-renowned MC, Shkreli offered, “He’s still a man, he still bleeds the same blood as me and it’s both red and if you want to talk s***, I’m not the one.” To further express his intent Shkreli added, “If he were here right now, I would smack him right in the face.”

“I would never call the police, it’s open season. Come at me, it don’t matter,” he claimed. A smiling Shkreli would then look directly into the camera and blatantly beckoned to Ghostdini and declared, “I wish you would.”

(AllHipHop News) Recently, Game earned more respect for his altruistic acts of kindness. The veteran lyricist teamed up with Avita Water to donate $1M to the help Flint, Michigan’s water crisis. It appears that Game’s finances will become more restricted.  On Monday (Feb. 1), the Documentary 2 MC was ordered to pay $10 million judgment in a sex assault case, this exclusively reported by Bossip.

Priscilla Rainey was victorious in her pursuit to obtain justice. Given that Game failed to appear in court to contest her allegations, the former She’s Got Game, contestant received a favorable outcome. Rainey met Game when the two filed the popular VH1 reality show.

Adam Horowitz, legal counsel for Ms. Rainey contends that his client “was damaged by the sexual assault.” He went on to provide her perspective and said, ““She’s been in therapy. Now, she’s anxious to tell her story.” She alleged that due to the  emotional, physical, and psychological contact, a host of issues have surfaced. She purported that Game forcefully rubbed her bare buttocks and v#####.

To help assuage the physical and emotional distress Ms. Rainey seeks to secure $10 M from Game. She is challenged to prove to a judge why that amount is fair.

Hmmmm…Jay Z Takes The Blueprint Off Spotify?

I got a little tip and it looks to be true.

Jay Z has removed his classic album The Blueprint from Spotify. This is the second classic album he has taken out of the competing brand. You already know, Jay Z is down with TIDAL and so this presents a classic conflict of interest. But, it also deprives fans from getting the album from one of the biggest streaming services in the market. Is this smart? I guess so. I guess not. I am sure he’s not making any money having it there. All good, Jay. I guess its download TIDAL or dig up my old CD.

Guess Which Rapper Admits To Having Threesomes With His Wife?

Photo via Kevin Gate’s Instagram

Kevin Gates is known to be a pretty controversial rapper from public assaults, his ideologies, sleeping with his cousin and more. It should be to no one’s surprise that his sex life is pretty interesting. Gates stopped by Angela Yee’s ‘Lip Service’ show to discuss a few freaky topics. Apparently Kevin and his wife Dreka have such an open marriage that they explore other women together. Many celebrity couples have been rumored to be open relationship loving swingers. In 2016 nothing is surprising. Gates even said he knew his wife tasted good but not necessarily through his own discovery. He said,

“I know she tastes good because when other women are sucking my D they tell me it tastes good.”

As time goes on, will more and more marriages be open? Would you be okay with a sexually open marriage? It seems like curiosity makes it hard to even desire to be with just one person. What are your thoughts?

Kanye West May Not Have Been Responsible For The Kim Kardashian & Amber Rose Meet Up

Photo via Amber Rose’s Instagram

Although Kanye West made the statement that he has the kind of love to turn exes into best friends, he may not have actually been fully responsible for Kim Kardashian and Amber Rose burying the hatchet. Apparently it was all Kim K’s idea. Well we’ve heard Kim is known for paying off people to make problems go away. Maybe she cut a check, or presented a collaborative business opportunity. According to an E! News insider, Kim reached out to Amber and asked her to meet her at her mother Kris Jenner’s home so that they could talk. We guess she felt bad about Yeezy’s comments about her child. According to the source, they squashed all beef, and Amber thinks Kim is great. Apparently Amber met up with Kim right before partying with her best friend Blac Chyna. Mannn Kanye has everyone in on this pre-album release publicity.

TBT Classics: When Big Kap Brought Lauryn Hill, Bahamadia & Other Dope Females In One Song

It may not be Thursday, but we have to pay respects to the late Big Kap,who died from a heart attack today. For those that don’t know, you may want to do some googling. Kap was a fixture in the New York Hip-Hop scene, especially in the 90’s. He was known to run with Flex and for a while his name was synonymous with The Tunnel, the infamous night club.

In 1995, Kap dropped this gem that highlighted some of the brightest females of the time: Bahamadia, Lauryn Hill, Precise, and Uneek. Check out “Da Ladies In The House.” RIP Kap.

Biggie threw water on Kap one time. This was a big deal for some reason.

When the people follow suit, it’s all good. I appreciate it. I love it. Thank-you.”

Although he hasn’t offiical met Yeezy,  Max B is humble that his artist integrity could inspire Kanye.  “It’s all good. I feel that’s what art’s about. We take things from each other…. He ain’t drop a diss record, he just called his album Waves.”
