The founding member of A Tribe Called Quest started hosting his own show on the Apple Music run platform in July. He joined other Beats 1 Radio celebrity “DJs” Dr. Dre (The Pharmacy), Drake (OVOSOUND), Pharrell (OTHERtone) and Jaden Smith (MSFTS FREQUENCY).

“I try to treat it like a DJ thing, it’s worldwide so it’s playing in 100 countries, so you have to be conscious of your audience. You’re not just playing in a club anymore,” said Tip about his Beats 1 radio show earlier this year. “Rather than just follow any sort of current, what’s popular, you want to try to figure out how to bridge many gaps and bring it all into one singular voice of good music. That’s been my philosophy and ethos.”

Q-Tip’s Abstract Radio broadcasts Fridays at 7 pm PT/10 pm ET on Apple Music’s Beats 1 Radio.

’12 Years A Slave’ Writer John Ridley To Direct Movie About Rodney King & The L.A. Riots

(AllHipHop News) The Oscar-winning screenwriter of 12 Years A Slave is set to tackle a story from more recent history. According to the Hollywood Reporter, John Ridley (American Crime) will direct a film about Rodney King and the 1992 Los Angeles Riots. The untitled movie is being produced in conjunction with Broad Green and Imagine Entertainment.

Ridley’s based on true events motion picture will focus on how LAPD police officers getting acquitted for beating King on camera led to six days of rioting in the spring of 92. More than 50 people were killed, 2,300 people were injured, and an estimated $1 billion of damage was done to property.

“This is a seminal event in our country’s history, the reverberations of which are still far too relevant today. We were blown away by John’s amazing screenplay and we know that under his direction and the aegis of Imagine, the film will be truly incredible. This is why we started this company. To make movies like this,” stated Broad Green founders Gabriel and Daniel Hammond.

The upcoming L.A. Riots movie comes on the heels of over a year worth of highly publicized news reports about unarmed citizens  – such as Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Walter Scott, Freddie Gray, and Sandra Bland – being killed at the hands of police officers or while in police custody. Many of those incidents were caught on video much like the King beating.

On September 20, Edward “Prohaize” Minta began running and cycling from the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta to Liberty Island in New York City. After 20 days, Prohaize completed his 750 mile journey to the Statue of Liberty.

Prohaize’s goal was to influence state officials nationwide to mandate body cameras for all active duty police officers. He made stops at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina and the 20th Anniversary “Justice or Else” Million Man March in Washington DC. The entire trek was recorded for the production of a Justice Trail documentary detailing his travels.

Justice Trail is an ad-hoc organization founded in July of this year. The group of like-minded individuals are working to create actions-based and results-oriented solutions for issues such as police brutality, sexual inequality, systemic oppression, and financial illiteracy.

Supporters of Justice Trail have already donated more than $1,200 through the Justice Trail GoFundMe campaign. Their goal is to raise $15,000. The funds from the campaign will be dispersed to Campaign Zero, It’s Bigger Than You, and Run For Justice.

Well it looks like Dej Loaf and Lil’ Durk have been getting closer and closer, and rumor has it that the two are actually a couple now. Allegedly Dej and Durk plan on going public with their relationship very soon. There’s one problem; everyone is not here for it especially Dej Loaf’s rumored female boo. Allegedly Dej Loaf has been in a relationship with Angeleah Speights (@AyeRedd), and Angeleah is not here for Dej Loaf faking who she is as a person, or who she is in love with. Guess What Famous Baby Mama Was Called Out About Hypocritical Matt Barnes-Derek Fisher Comments?

Photo via Kim Porter’s Instagram

Everyone has had something to say about the recent incident of Matt Barnes driving 95 miles to assault Derek Fisher, but it seems like everyone shouldn’t have an opinion, or some definitely shouldn’t express it. Fans recently roasted one of Diddy’s baby mamas, Kim Porter, as she offered her opinion on the situation. She basically said you shouldn’t sleep with a close friend or associate’s ex. Fans wasted no time in the comments “reminding” Kim that she was Diddy’s first baby mama Misa Hylton’s friend, and she was allegedly sleeping on Puff & Misa’s couch when her an Al B. Sure! broke up. To take it a step further they “reminded” Kim that Diddy and Al B. Sure! were very close and worked on music together. Well if all of this is the case, isn’t that the pot calling the kettle……..

Did Soulja Boy Post A Cryptic Message?

Photo via Soulja Boy’s Twitter

It seems like Soulja Boy has had quite a few ups and downs in his career. Most of the “downs” seem to stem from his tumultuous relationships and rumored drug use. Soulja Boy seems to have posted a cryptic message as well as a cry for help on his Snap Chat as he posted,

“I’m going to die soon. I enjoyed my life.”

Is Soulja just saying we all die eventually and happens to be reflecting, or is he suffering from some mental health issues? We hope he is not suicidal.

Are Travis Scott & Rihanna Still Going Strong?

Photos via Travis Scott & Rihanna’s Instagram

While Rihanna has been linked to a few high profile men lately, it really seems like her and her rumored boo Travis Scott are going strong. Rihanna has been spotted at several of his shows and after parties getting cozy with Scott, leading everyone to believe they are more than just friends. Last month she attended all three of his NYC Gramercy Theatre shows, and the two were seen dancing and getting close at a club. The two have been spotted once again allegedly kissing and making out in a club in Paris. We still wonder if they are just really good friends….. with benefits. Scott did almost blush when asked about Ri though! Who wouldn’t want RiRi?
