Watch The Trailer For Drake's New Documentary 'Homecoming: The Lost Footage' (VIDEO)

Before Drake was Young Money’s golden child he was Jimmy from Degrassi: The Next Generation who was struggling to switch lanes from actor from emcee. After releasing releasing the short film Jungle and a new mixtape If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late yesterday (Feb. 12), he has announced that he will be dropping a documentary that chronicles his humble beginnings.

In the trailer for Homecoming: The Lost Footage, Jas Prince, son of Rap-A-Lot CEO James Prince, revealed that Young Money head honcho Lil’ Wayne didn’t always see Drake’s potential and had no interest in bringing him into his circle.

“Wayne told me he sucked,” Prince said.  “He was like, ‘Jas, don’t play me that s### no more. It’s no good.'” Wayne’s change of heart was imminent.

The film, which will hit select theaters on Mar. 19th, features never before seen footage of his 2009 performance at Toronto’s Sound Academy, commentary from Bun B, behind the scenes footage and early career interviews.

Do Out Of Towners Have To Check In For All-Star In NY?

I have been seeing a lot out there and its something that is not indigenous to the city of New York. I am seeing on instagram and what not, certain people are telling “out of towners to check in.” You probably already know that this came from the West Coast and I think later, places like Detroit. Trick Trick in the house! Anyway, this is weird to me, but apparently folks gotta pay “street tithes” in order to be safe out here. You think its just talk or cats might actually get pressed?

Talib Kweli's Action Support Committee Raises Over $100,000 To Support Ferguson Protestors

Six months after the death of Mike Brown, protesters and activists in Ferguson are still going strong and rapper Talib Kweli and his Action Support Committee have taken notice.

Back in October, Kweli along with Tef Poe, Tory Russell, Donna Dragotta and Autumn Marie launched an Indiegogo crowd funding campaign, the Ferguson Defense Fund, to offer support to those who had been protesting for over 60 days and fighting against heavy resistance from Ferguson and St. Louis police.

They started the campaign with hopes of raising $25,000 but have surpassed that goal tremendously, raising a total of $112, 052.

“These are young men and women who have put their lives on hold to stand up for all of our freedoms,” Kweli said.  “The overly militarized police force in Ferguson has attempted to criminalize them by harassing and throwing them in jail for exercising their right to peaceful protest. We hope these funds help to empower.”

The first wave of grants will be distributed Feb. 13th to organizations including the Jail & Bail Fund, Artists As Tutors, Revolutionary Reading Program: Freedom Fighters, Tech Impact Initiative: Hands Up United, The Transitional Housing Program, The Bereavement Fund and Juventud Raza Unida: Latinos En Axion STL.

Did Drake Just Get Out Of Cash Money With “If You’re Reading This…”?

The drama is THICK right now.

The latest on the streets is that Drake dropped this new album/mixtape to fulfill his contractual obligation with Cash Money. This is why it is on iTunes. But did you peep how uber fast it appeared on SoundCloud (some say at the same time it showed up on iTunes)? Some say it was at the same time, but others speculate it is not about the money, but all about getting that contract wrapped up.

Drake could be a free agent.

J. Prince shows up and the next day…

Cash Money will probably offer him a boatload of money to stay and he will likely take it, in my opinion.

Tyga Responds To Drake's '6 P.M In New York' Diss And Calls Him A B—h On Twitter

Drake surprised us all when he turned a playlist on Soundcloud into an album on iTunes entitled If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late. Within those 17 tracks is a song called “6 p.m in New York” where Drizzy officially clapped back at Tyga for saying how he really felt about Drake in an interview last year.

“I don’t like Drake as a person,” T-Raww told VIBE last October. “He’s just fake to me. I like his music; you know what I’m saying? I think his music is good, but we’re all different people. We were forced together and it was kinda like we were forcing relationships together. It is what it is.”

In response to the shade thrown, the OVO frontman rapped “I heard the lil lil homie talking reckless in Vibe/It’s quite a platform you chose, you should have kept it inside/Oh you tried/It’s so childish calling my name on the world’s stage/You need to act your age and not your girl’s age.”

When Tyga caught wind of the track. he gave his former Young Money labelmate an earful via 140 characters and even threw his BFF Chris Brown into the mix, who ended his beef with Drake last year.

EXCLUSIVE: Turk Warns Young Rappers To Learn The Business & Not Just Chase The Lifestyle

(AllHipHop) New Orleans rapper Turk is in the middle of a legal battle with his former label Cash Money Records. The original member of the Hot Boys is suing the company for unpaid royalties connected to his musical works with CMR.

[ALSO READ: EXCLUSIVE: More Details About Turk’s Lawsuit Against Cash Money Revealed]

While Turk still calls Cash Money founders Bryan “Baby” Williams and Ronald “Slim” Williams his brothers, the “Wodie” performer views the lawsuit as a necessary final option to recovering money he believes is due to him. Turk was just a teenager when he joined the label, and he now recognizes he was not fully aware of the inner workings of the music industry at that time.

“When it came down to business, there are things that we didn’t know coming into the game as youngsters. Throughout the years of reading, researching and seeing the numbers are not adding up, it’s like, ‘Oh yeah, something’s going on,'” Turk tells AllHipHop.com in an exclusive interview. “Of course, I was incarcerated, so there wasn’t too much I could do. My whole plan was to come home, get back with Cash Money, get the Hot Boys reunion going, and get back with the old family.”

Taking Baby and Slim through the court system was not Turk’s ideal method of resolving the situation. But ultimately he hopes his financial struggle with Cash Money will serve as a lesson to young entertainers that only see rap star’s glamorous lifestyle. For Turk, his story is a cautionary tale on the importance of understanding how the business side of the music game works.

“We’re young when we come in the game, and we’re impressed by the watches, necklaces, earrings, and grills. We’re impressed by that, but you gotta think about if your kids are going to be set for life. Or are you just selfish, and you just want to live for the day?” says Turk. “You gotta know. You gotta set up things. That’s how the white folks do it. I’m not racist, but they set up stuff for their kids and pass it down the line. We as a race have to come together and keep on doing what’s right. And get away from all the bulls**t.”

Later in the interview, Amber addressed comments she made on Light Girls. The OWN special featured her revealing members of her family feel they are superior to African-Americans.

“Let me make this very clear, because the White side of my family got really mad at me. My dad is White. It was not the White side of my family. Amber states she considers herself to be bi-racial, not a Black woman. Will Smith Discusses Race Relations In America + Jaden & Willow Dealing With Criticism

(AllHipHop News) Will Smith chatted about numerous topics with Esquire‘s Scott Raab at a recent Philadelphia 76ers game. During the discussion, the rapper/actor spoke about the contentious topic of race relations in America.

[ALSO READ: Nas: I’m Waiting For People Not To Be Scared Of The Race Issue]

Smith said:

I understand the difficulty and the pain, and there’s no easy way out right now. The change that has to happen is about to be so brutal and so painful. It’s not unlike the sixties. I think there’s actually a deeper issue at play that America is going to have to face. What we’re really talking about in this issue is people walking around the street with guns that can make a decision whether or not they’re going to kill someone, right? And that’s even more difficult, because there’s really no way back from that. This is a gun culture. And it’s painful for me, because I cannot figure out how to be helpful. I’ve always been telling my sons, We have to separate fault from responsibility—whose fault it is that black men are in this situation, whose fault it is doesn’t matter. It’s our responsibility to make it go right. It’s our responsibility. It’s a lot of people’s fault, systemic racism, and it’s a lot of people’s fault that the black community is in the situation that we’re in, but it’s our responsibility to clean up the mess.

The star of the upcoming film Focus was also asked about his children having to deal with online criticism. Smith stated Willow and Jaden are adjusting to the scrutiny that comes with being a public figure.

With this generation of kids growing up, the technological battering is almost the norm. They generally avoid the stuff. They’re really well-adjusted around this business and understanding the nature of having to take a battering. It’s a brutal world out there for young people, for everybody. Willow had one moment. The Young Turks are Willow’s idol. They have a TV show online. They’re like a really powerful group of young writers, hosts, and political commentators. Willow loves the Young Turks, and that was the only moment I saw her cry. Other than that, she’s really well-adjusted with it. And Jaden understands that that’s a part of this business. If he wants to do it, there’s a certain amount of battery that you have to be willing to live through. We have a quote that I put up in the house from Pema Chödrön: “Only to the extent that we expose ourselves over and over to annihilation can that which is indestructible be found in us.” We call it leaning into the sharp parts. Something hurts, lean in. You just lean into that point until it loses its power over you. There’s a certain amount of suffering that you have to be willing to sustain if you want to have a good life. And the trick is to be able to sustain it with your heart open and still be loving. That is the real trick.

Hip-Hop Rumors: K. Michelle Says She's Not At Fault For Toya's Marriage Issues

It’s no secret that Memphitz and Toya Wright are at odds at the moment.

In a recent interview with Necole Bitchie, Toya gave some insight on why the marriage is crumbling:

“I mean, what is going on with my husband, like I said when I spoke on it, is it’s bigger than me. Micky has been going through something for the last few years since the whole lawsuit thing against his ex [K. Michelle] and Viacom and it really took a toll on him and it caused him to be a different person. So I think that, going through all of those things, and having all of that stress and the world looking at you one way as a woman beater and person that steals someone’s money, it’s hard for you to get back into your industry when you had a career and not a job and somebody defames your character, I mean, it’s a lot to deal with day to day.”

Shortly after the interview hit the net K. Michelle made an obscure post via Instagram:

Hmmmm…could K. Michelle be sending some shots Toya’s way?

Lil Scrappy Calls Beck An Idiot, Blasts The Grammys For Snubbing Black Artists (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Atlanta rapper Lil Scrappy joined the week-long conversation about Beck winning the Grammy for “Album Of The Year.” In an interview with DJ Smallz Eyes, the star of Love & Hip Hop Atlanta shared his thoughts on the Grammys treatment of African-American artists.

[ALSO READ: Lil Scrappy Talks Racism, Michael Brown & Police Shootings (VIDEO)]

“I’m not prejudice at all, but it’s crazy how – it’s like they make us prejudice,” said Scrappy. “They make us prejudice with their moves that they make. And when I say ‘they,’ I mean the White people that’s in charge.”

The “Head Bussa” rhymer went on to add he feels the Grammys are supposed to be rewarded to the performer that is popular across demographics. He cites the Country Music Awards and the MTV Awards as showcases that are specific to one genre. For Scrappy, Beyoncé’s overall global appeal is the reason her self-titled album should have beaten Beck’s Morning Phase.

“Everybody knows Beyoncé. Beyoncé just came off a world tour. This idiot never did a world tour, and if he had we didn’t know it,” Scrappy stated. “Black people know, white people know about Beyoncé. Mexican, Chinese, Japanese, everybody knows about Beyoncé. This a**hole, f**king idiot – I call him an idiot cause I would have gave it to Beyoncé like, ‘Look I enjoy my music, but I’m gonna give this to her.'”

Scrappy sees the Grammy snubs as an insult. He believes the reason the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences gives “their people” the awards is because Black artists are making money despite not being recognized by the Grammy voters.
