VH1 Cancels Sorority Sisters – Sort Of

It seems like VH1 is quietly killing their controversial show “Sorority Sisters.”

The Atlanta Journal Constitution outlined the fiendish plot:

How badly does VH1 want to put this show into the grave? The final episode will start at the odd time of 11:10 p.m. and end just past midnight. Plus, it’s not even being repeated later that night for West Coast consumption.  And Friday tends to be a relatively low TV consumption night.

Some of the show’s stars were suspended or expelled from their respective sororities as well.

On top of it all, advertisers had complained as well as a social media movement of African Americans and Greek letter organizations that demanded the show be cancelled.

It would seem they have gotten their wish.

Whodini’s Legendary DJ Grand Master Dee Finds New Life

Grandmaster Dee (above, left) is one of the premier legends in Hip-Hop’s storied history and he has found a new life in the present day through new management and other positions.

Dee, real name William Drew Carter, was the spin master for the legendary musical group Whodini. While he has been quite quiet in the mainstream, the DJ has signed with Mickey Bentson’s PayUp Management to expound on his status in the rap game.

Benson already plays a part in the musical careers of Ice-T, Grand Master Melle Mel, Afrika Bambaataa, among others.

“I’m honored that I’ve signed with a great music industry veteran. Mickey Bentson’s proven track record offers both confidence and excitement about the next stages of my career,” said Grand Master Dee.

Bentson concurred.

“I cannot understate how great it is to work with a veteran that has such drive and commitment,” Bentson. “As important as Grandmaster Dee’s professional approach to business is his good nature and humble demeanor. It also helps that he has a great sense of humor. We are looking forward to a long and prosperous relationship.”

On the low, Dee has been busy.

Steadily working, he’s a featured artist by Stanton Magnetics, a manufacturer of professional audio products. In addition, he opened for Rihanna at the Feeding America Inauguration Event, Snoop Dogg at the Recording Industry of America Event and played the 2014 Kid Rock Cruise. His DJ skills were recently recognized with an International Disc Jockey Legacy Award.

He is also an Inductee in Long Island Music Hall and Fame and has been recognized with the VH1 Hip Hop Honors Award and featured on TV1’s document series, UnSung.

Grandmaster Dee is also one of the first DJ’s to bust a rap on wax with Whodini’s “Funky Beat.” With Whodini, he has won both gold and platinum plaques.

DJ Esco Freed From Dubai Prison

After being held in a Dubai prison for 2 months DJ Esco is now a free man. According to the website 7 Days In Dubai, charges against Future’s tour DJ have been dropped and he has been freed to board his Delta Airlines flight home at 11pm tonight.

Esco was scheduled to appear alongside Future at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix concerts on November 18th but was caught with 18 grams marijuana at the Dubai International Airport after arriving from Amsterdam.

“He admitted that he consumed marijuana before coming to Dubai. He didn’t have any criminal intention and was not aware that marijuana is illegal in the UAE. It was a mistake,” Defense lawyer Mohammad Al Redha. Esco was drug tested and they did find marijuana in his system, but consumption charges were dropped due to the fact he did not do the drugs in UAE. Also no possession charges were pursued.

Mohammad Al Redha says Esco has been in great spirits the entire time of his incarceration. “He is a charming and polite person – even his [prison] wardens loved his character. He will be back home soon.”

Hip-Hop Rumors: Keri Hilson Performs For Empty Crowd

Poor Miss Keri baby…and allegedly this isn’t the first time a situation like this has happened to the singer.

Instagram video had surfaced of the singer opening up for Lenny Kravitz, performing for a stadium filled with empty chairs.

RhymeswithSnitch reports:

“Two years ago singer/songwriter Kerri Hilson performed at a concert in Nigeria to the opposite of a sold out crowd.

Apparently not much has changed…
Over the weekend Keri Hilson performed at the AT&T Playoff Playlist Live!, opening for Lenny Kravitz at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, but hardly anybody showed up to see her get down.

Even worse concert reviewers claimed Kerri left the stage in the middle of her 30 min set for over five minutes with no explanation, no costume change, no nothing.””

Seems like she never could bounce back once she came for the BeyHive…
