EXCLUSIVE: Comedian Capone Talks Baby Mama Drama, Being “Gangsta of Comedy” + More (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Comedian Capone willfully accepts people calling him the “gangsta of comedy” and provided stories to the crowd at the UCB Theatre last week (Oct 11th) for Cipha Sounds’ Take It Personal.

The member of Shaquille O’Neal’s All Star Comedy Jam reminisced on transitioning from getting out of jail to stand up comedy in the 70’s and 80’s Bronx, New York. But none of the pimps and drug dealers could scare him like his unnamed ex-wife.

Abra Tabak and Phil Jackson turned that into a hilarious fight incited by realtor Cipha Sounds. Cipha Sounds’ Take It Personal is every Friday at 9pm at 153 E 3rd St in New York City’s Lower East Side neighborhood.

Tickets are $10.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Kandi is Still Gunning for Kim Over ‘Tardy For the Party’

Kandi Burruss and Kim Zolciak have been involved in a legal battle for the past few months over “Don’t Be Tardy,” the song we saw Kandi write for Kim on Real Housewives of Atlanta. It was all love at first but when Kim started making money from the tune and allegedly not giving Kandi her cut the legal battle began. It was recently reported that Kandi lost the battle in court (because Kim took to her twitter to announce that she won) but Kandi says she’s not done fighting.

US Weekly got the goods from Kandi who told them that she plans to re-file in federal court – and that the loss was a preliminary matter. “Kim really didn’t win. That was just one level of it,” Kandi said. “Now it goes back to other levels of the court and it’s still going on.”

Kandi doesn’t need the money but she says it’s more about the principal in the matter.

Hip-Hip Rumors: Kim Kardashian Sets Internet Ablaze?

OK, I’ll play the game. The game was meant to be played. Kim Kardashian showed her butt today and the internets have gone damn berserk! I simply didn’t care until I was told to care! So, here’s me “caring” and writing about something I didn’t previously care about. But, in the greater scheme of history, I think this will go down right next to the government shut down as one of the most important factors that will remember in 15 years. Here the picture!

I guess that pic is better than this pic:

N.W.A. And LL Cool J Up For 2014 Rock and Roll of Fame

(AllHipHop News) Legends LL Cool J and N.W.A. are included as the esteemed nominees for the 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The announcements came yesterday (Oct. 16) and included other legends ilk Chic, Hall and Oats, Peter Gabriel, Nirvana, KISS, among others.

Both LL and N.W.A. were nominated and denied entry in the past.

Should they be accepted, they will join other Hip-Hop Rock Hall inductees Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five,Run-DMC, Beastie Boys and Public Enemy.

Interesting enough, Chic provided the sonic backdrop for “Rapper’s Delight,” the 1979 song that brought rap music to the masses. 2013 is Chic’s eighth time up for nomination.

Louie V Gutta On Being Robbed: No Reason To Involve The Police

(AllHipHop News) During a 2007 interview on 60 Minutes, Cam’ron once said he would not go to the police even if he knew a murderer lived next door to him. Louie V Gutta is following a similar mentality after being robbed at gunpoint of $40,000 worth of jewelery outside an Atlanta Waffle House on September 30th.

Louie V Gutta, real name Vincent Lamar Robinson, informed Philadelphia Daily News that he would not involve the police in investigating his robbery. There’s no reason for the police to be involved,” says Robinson “If I heard on the streets tomorrow who did it, I wouldn’t go to the police.” The Dreamchasers Records artist even goes further to saying he does not wish jail time on anyone involved in the robbery:

That kind of stuff happens every day. It’s unfortunate this time it was on me, but I don’t want nobody locked up behind it. I don’t really live by that.

While Robinson is against police involvement, Sgt. Gregory Lyon, an Atlanta Police Department spokesman has stated that an investigation on the robbery is underway, however he claims the police are “having a hard time reaching the victims”

Robinson seems well acclimated to criminality as last December he took to his personal Twitter account to reveal that him and a few of his associates robbed rapper Tone Trump of his chain and assaulted him:

No word on if the two incidents are related.

Black Hippy Covers Upcoming XXL Issue, Ab-Soul Threatens To Leave The Group

(AllHipHop News) Top Dawg Entertainment has released a few of the most critically acclaimed music projects of the past 2 years from all their members and their Voltron-esque group Black Hippy is the centerpiece. The group, consisting of Kendrick Lamar, Ab Soul, Schoolboy Q and Jay Rock will appear on the October 29th issue of XXL Magazine.

The cover story will feature insight on the rising popularity of the Black Hippy group as well as each individual artist’s rise to prominence. One rapper of group, Kendrick Lamar, has already ascended past his group mates with a platinum single (“Swimming Pool”), classic platinum-selling debut album (good kid mAAd city) and an industry shaking verse (“Control”) in one year.

tde-ill

The title of the cover was “Kendrick Lamar & Black Hippy”, a title that Another one of the Black Hippy members, Ab Soul, has taken issue with:

Ab Soul released his highly acclaimed mixtape Control System in 2012 and was scheduled to release a collaborative project with JMSN entitled Unit 6. The album was completed but shelved due to their “management couldn’t see eye to eye,” Soul told XXL in August. He just recently announced he’s finished a project with TDE in-house engineer Ali:

Epic Win Of The Day: Fake Kendrick Lamar Goes Ballistic!

This was funny. The rap game is interesting…no its not. Its wack and its a daily struggle to get anything to talk about. But, here is something for you. There is a fake cypher where the fakes are better than the actual cypher. Peep the last one, which is the fake Kendrick. Dude…he talks about getting milk from Rozay…never mind.

OH, and since we are speaking of fakes. Watch the fake Paul Mooney’s commentary on the BET Hip-Hop Awards. Pretty funny.

Daily Word: Work Hard, Stick-to-It, and Persist!!

Happy Thursday my focused, determined, and persistent! Welcome to the best day of your life and the day you realize that if you want anything in life you are going to have to put in the work to attain it! Today’s Daily Word is dedicated to your Hard Work, Sticktoitiveness, and persistence! They say “To persist with a goal, you must treasure the dream more than the costs of sacrifice to attain it.” Before you start on your journey it is imperative to ask yourself “how bad do you want it? How much are you willing to sacrifice to get it? and If you don’t get it will your life be OK? The answers to these questions will determine your destiny! How bad you want your dream will allow you to put in the hard work required, and give you the strength to persevere when the going get tough! Understand that as mere mortals we have the right to want to give up but as children of our higher power we have NO RIGHT to follow through with that feeling! If ever you feel like quitting, remember why you started in the first place! Keep your end result in your minds eye and do everything in your power to make your dreams come true! NOTHING CAN STOP YOU BUT YOU!!!! ITS ALWAYS….ALWAYS…. ALWAYS….. TOO EARLY TO QUIT!!!!

-Ash’Cash“The three great essentials to achieve anything worthwhile are, first, hard work; second, stick-to-itiveness; third, common sense.”

“To ask, ‘How do you do it?’ is already starting off on the wrong foot. When reaching for the stars, there does not have to be a ‘how’ if there is a big enough ‘why’.”
-Criss Jami

Hip-Hop Rumors: Check Out What Timbaland’s Soon-To-Be Ex-Wife Wants Outta The Deal!

The divorce rate has hovered around 50% for the longest, but it seems to be going up up up more recently – especially in the “game.” Looks like Timbaland is next. According to TMZ, the famed producer has lost his wife to the epidemic called divorce. The pair have been married 5 years, but in a relationship for close to 10, she says. So, she maintains, she deserves all the rights and privileges of a decade old marriage. And, she wants him to pay for their 5-year-old daughter as well as one from her previous relationship. HUH? This chick is just throwing up a hail mary. Additionally she wants alimony, life insurance, private school, vacations, summer camp and a new kitchen sink (just kidding). She seemingly wants retroactive alimony, because they have been on the outs for sometime now…and permanent alimony. For a 5 year marriage? Lastly, she wants a lump sum of money to get things going.

Timbo is worth a reported $80 million.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Karlie Redd Spotted Making Out With Yung Joc

We all know that Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta’s Karlie Redd has a thing for any man with a little bit of a name who will give her attention, so it’s no surprise that she found herself a new rapper to latch on to. This time around she’s with Yung Joc. Yung Joc is preparing to launch a late night talk show and celebrated the occasion a couple of days ago in Atlanta. Karlie Redd was right by his side sharing the love.

According to Freddy O, the couple was caught smooching and gazing into each others eyes.

For Karlie, I’m going to assume that this is a ruse, you know, something to keep the interest in her going on Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta. For Yung Joc…well, she did once get quoted as saying, “I got some good stuff down here.”

Fail of the Day: Naked Lady High on Molly Busts it Open on Streets of NYC [NSFW]

Apparently, this woman got high popping mollies and ended up rolling our butt naked on the streets of New York City. Check it out but do it at your own risk because these flicks aren’t safe for work.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Do Drake and Lil Wayne Have Issues?

Here’s another one. The millionth time we’ve herd a rumor than Drake and Lil Wayne have some kind of issue. Just for the record, I Drake has repeatedly insisted that he has NO issue with Cash Money/Young Money and he’s also repeated said that Wayne is his brother. But Mouthtoears.com is getting something else in their chamber. See what they are saying.

Well what’s the problem now?

A few months ago, rumors about Wayne and Drake beefing were circulating around. Wayne quickly put those to rest by bringing Drake on stage to perform with him.

But was that all a front?

Our sources tell us, there’s some bad blood between the two rappers. You notice you haven’t seen them together recently. That’s not because of their “oh so busy” schedules.
The two are feuding and it has us wondering what does the future hold for Drake and Cash Money?

Now that Cash Money has brought in Game and he’s having trouble with Wayne, what does Drake plan on doing? Y’all know he can be a little sensitive…maybe he will bounce and be the first rapper signed to his own label, OVO Sound.

That might be his move and it probably wouldn’t be a bad one. Let’s just hope, whatever is causing issues between him and Weezy has nothing to do with a girl.

I don’t think I believe this one, ya’ll.

WTF News: Gas Station Clerk Fired For Pulling Gun on Robber

A gas station clerk in New Hampshire was fired for pulling out a handgun during an attempted robbery. Shannon “Bear” Cothran, the clerk, told the Telegraph of Nashua, NH that he was working at a local Shell station early Monday morning when a man approach him with a knife.

Police confirmed that that robber fled with Cothran pulled out a gun. Cothran filed a report with the company that owns the Shell and was fired hours later because the company mandates that their employees aren’t allowed to carry fire arms.

The company released the following statement:

“Make no mistake: We care about the personal well-being of employees like Mr. Cothran, whose years of service are truly appreciated — not about the money in the cash register. So, we are especially grateful that this situation was resolved without injury,” the statement said. “We do respect the constitutional right to bear arms. However, we believe the best way to keep our employees and customers safe is to prohibit weapons in the workplace.”

The store manager and district manager lobbied to help Cothran save his job but at the moment, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. In related news, you know what they say about bringing knives to gun fights, right? Sorry, couldn’t resist.

DMV Hip Hop Artist Oddisee Breaks Out The Box

(AllHipHop Features) While the federal government in the nation’s capital is trying to resolve a shutdown, the Washington, D.C. Hip Hop scene is wide open. The District of Columbia is quickly becoming the next big locale in rap music with several artists shining a light on the immense talent emanating from the Mid-Atlantic region. One of the leading voices in the DMV (D.C./Maryland/Virginia) rap movement is Hip Hop artist Oddisee.

“Growing up in D.C. influenced me in so many different ways,” says Oddisee. “That perfect blend between northern and southern culture a lot of times finds itself into my flow. I care about riding the beat the way a southern emcee would. I also care about lyrical potency like a traditional East Coast emcee would with metaphors and similes and wordplay. I come from both schools of rhyming.”

Oddisee was born Amir Mohamed in Washington, D.C. and later raised in the adjacent Maryland county of Prince George’s. He dove into music around the turn of the millennium, and eventually released over a dozen projects including 2011’s Rock Creek Park and 2012’s People Hear What They See. The current Brooklyn resident dropped his latest instrumental album The Beauty In All and the complimentary Tangible Dreams mixtape package in September.

“Every release I’ve done I’ve kind of jumped back-and-forth between instrumental projects and vocal releases starting with Rock Creek Park, and then after that People Here What They See,” explains Oddisee. “I kind of wanted to put them together instead of releasing them one after the other so I could display all of my abilities at one time.”

Oddisee makes it a point to emphasize that his gifts as a writer, performer, and producer are all equally valuable and essential. He understands the tendency for the media and the public to categorize performers as either a “producer-who-raps” or a “rapper-who-produces,” but for Oddisee those boxes cannot accurately contain the extent of who he is. He sees himself as an artist first, and an emcee/producer second.

“I really want my listeners to view me as a Hip Hop artist, because that’s a rarity,” says Oddisee. “A lot of people who make beats don’t rhyme that well. There a lot of people who rhyme well who don’t make beats that well. There are a lot of people who do neither exceptional well. I feel as though I’m one of those people who do both of them exceptional well.”

The Mello Music Group artist has managed to maintain that level of excellence, build a supportive fan base, and book international tours without the backing of a major record label. At one point in the not too distant past, it would have been hard (if not impossible) for an independent performer to reach audiences all around the globe.

In what is rapidly becoming the “Age of the Indie”, majors are now looking to smaller labels as the models of effective, economical promotion and artist development. According to Oddisee, the big companies are even masking as independents to build underground attention for their artists.

“There’s lots of artists who release free promo material and mixtapes and appear to be grassroots, but they completely have a backing by a larger entity,” shares Oddisee. “A lot of artists who release something and it gains some sort of buzz are immediately courted by a larger entity who kind of takes over. It still allows them to organically grow, but they’re being watched and observed and assisted.”

The idea of achieving success in the rap game without the financial support of music corporations was part of the inspiration for the Tangible Dreams mixtape. Throughout his career Oddisee has routinely been labeled “underrated” by his supporters who sometimes find it difficult to believe that an artist can sustain a comfortable livelihood without being constantly showcased in the mainstream media.

“I come across people who are surprised you can make a living from being a Hip Hop artist and not be on the radio or on MTV or BET or all over the major publications. It made me realize how unrealistic people think it is to be an artist or do anything you really want to do that’s off the beaten path,” says Oddisee. “Subject wise [Tangible Dreams] really talks about how things are feasible, how you can go about living a life of value and worth and excitement without being extravagant at the same time.”

While Tangible Dreams addresses the reality of reaching what some may think are unattainable goals, The Beauty In All allows the listener to reflect on those little, unnoticeable aspects of life that ultimately help push you to your eventual destination.

The Beauty In All is a project about how the imperfections of things really add to the beauty of the world. How certain conditions that make people struggle actually give birth to some of the greatest ideas in Hip Hop,” explains Oddisee. “For instance, Hip Hop comes from struggle. It comes from poverty. It comes from people reflecting on what they go through in life and making art out of it. Making art out of what they have whether that be back in the day plugging up a turntable into a street light for electricity or just taking what you have and making the best of it. That’s something that people in urban culture have done for so long. There’s a beauty that comes out of that.”

Oddisee continues, “That’s really what the record is about. Paying attention to those things that we find unattractive or imperfect and understanding just how important they are to contributing to the things that we do appreciate. This is just a musical interpretation of that.”

Oddisee reached out to other performers he calls “more popular than myself” to provide collaborations for his latest work but did not receive any answers back, so he stuck to his family of artists like Ralph Real, Olivier St Louis, Paolo Escobard, Toine & Trek Life, and Diamond District. Even without big name features, Oddisee knows his extensive discography has the potential to appeal to the lovers of many brands of Hip Hop.

“I’ll make more an upbeat oriented material or thought-provoking material or braggadocious rap or emotionally based music. I do my best to cover all the things I like and experience in life myself, and I leave it up to the listener to pick which one they want to subscribe to.”

With the musical combination of The Beauty In All and Tangible Dreams, the DMV’s multi-talented Hip Hop representative is offering varying soundscapes that will hopefully catch the ear of music fans who truly appreciate the artistry of the culture. Only a true artist like Oddisee could even recognize the beauty in exploring distinct styles and embrace the tangible ability to see them all flourish.

Breeding Ground Pick: League Of Extraordinary Gz: #LeagueSh*t

Austin, Texas-based rap crew League Of Extraordinary Gz are a rap group rooted in the tradition of groups like Public Enemy and Dead Prez, unafraid to tackle hot-button topics both political and socially minded, while still having fun. The group’s latest single, “Intercourse,” is an example of the latter as LOEGz teams with Dallas rapper Slim Gravy, of the group A.Dd+, and lets loose over hazy track. League Of Extraordinary Gz will release their new album, #LeagueShit, on October 15th. The album features Dead Prez, Bavu Blakes, and more.

[Project Link]

AllHipHop.com: What can the people expect on this album?

League Of Extraordinary Gz: Diversity, Quality, and Sonic Cohesiveness! The album has a good mixture of songs from party records to just straight lyrical tracks to songs that cover political topics to just some downright reality joints that anyone can relate to. We have been working on this album since we first started the League back in 2009 and in those years the project evolved musically and molded itself into what we embody as #LEAGUESHIT. We worked with a number of musicians to give each of the tracks some aspect of live instrumentation. Throughout the album, you’ll hear horns, bass, guitars, keys, and even a jazz flute. As for features we got the homie Slim Gravy of A.Dd+, Dead Prez, Bavu Blakes, and grammy award winning Latin funk band Grupo Fantasma.

League Of Extraordinary Gz Ft. Dead Prez

AllHipHop.com: How has the group grown from 3 years ago being first being in the Breeding Ground?

League Of Extraordinary Gz: We’ve been through a lot since being featured on Breeding Ground back in Nov 2010. For those that are unfamiliar with our story, a month prior to our feature on AHH we were faced with the sudden tragic loss of our brother Octavis “Esbe Da 6th Street Bully” Berry to a pulmonary embolism. Although it had put a strain on us when it came to the creative process for close to a year, dealing with his loss made us closer than ever. We knew that we had bond together as a group but our brotherhood was evident when we had to deal with Tay’s passing together. It was then we realized that it was more than just music and fame to us. We now had his family that we needed to take care of in his absence. Things started to pick back up for us in the spring of 2011 where we had a successful showing at the 2011 SXSW music festival. During the festival we were introduced to the homie Rittz through a mutual friend and later that summer went on his Revival Tour as a supporting act. We drove about 18k miles across the U.S. performing in 32 cities over roughly 40 days. It was a blessing for us as we were able to introduce our music and brand to markets we have never been to before. Once we got back from the tour, we got back into the booth and released an 8 track EP project in December 2012 on DjBooth which was produced entirely by the homie Shane Eli out of L.A. Earlier this year we went on a regional tour with our bro Scotty ATL. Since then we spent the remainder of our time this year finalizing the #LEAGUESHIT album. Although it seems like just yesterday when we were featured for the first time on AHH, we have been putting in work to grow our brand nationally as an indie act out of Austin. Hopefully, this will be more evident than ever with the release of our debut album.

AllHipHop.com: What is the next move for the League?

League Of Extraordinary Gz: Musically, everyone is working on their solo projects. There are 6 projects in the works right now. Reggie Coby is finishing up his W420 project. Lowkey has started working on his The Low Life project. Tuk and S.Dot are wrapping up their follow up to the Whiteboy Mixtape which will be hosted by DJ Burn One. Lil J is recording his solo effort Reality Rap. Slick Talk, who is currently stationed with the Navy, is almost done with a solo EP that was produced entirely by Eric Dingus. Lastly, we can’t forget about Dowrong’s Bully Basics solo project. We got a lot of music that we’re gonna hit people with in the coming months. Outside of the music, we are planning to get back on the road again and hit a lot our markets with an official #LEAGUESHIT tour. So be on the lookout. You can stay up to date with the League by visiting our website www.LOEGz.com.
