EXCLUSIVE: Lil Durk Details Recent Gun Charge; Previous Incarceration

(AllHipHop News) Chicago MC Lil Durk was in Miami, Florida this weekend to promote his upcoming new mixtape “Signed to the Streets,” which is hosted by veteran, DJ Drama.

Lil Durk sat down with AllHipHop.com and opened up about his second gun charge, which occurred on June 5, in his hometown. The rapper was accused of tossing a loaded .40 caliber handgun into his vehicle as police approached him on South Green Street.

Lil Durk, born Durk Banks, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.

“Having a name, they so thirsty they want the name,” Lil Durk told AllHipHop.com “I’m going to beat it though, I’m not worried about that s**t. I’m still going to court for it. I had to do my parole time for my last gun case, this is my second gun case .”

Durk was sentenced to a year in prison for a gun violation in 2012, after being convicted of unlawful use of a weapon. The rapper was released in July of 2012.

“It was the worst,” Lil Durk revealed to AllHipHop.com. “I was in Stateville [Maximum Correctional Center]. You only leave out your cell one time a week. You eat three times a day, but your’e last meal is at 4:00PM. I was plugged in there though, so I was eating on the regular.”

Lil Durk only received one phone call per-day while he was incarcerated at Stateville. The strict limit on his phone calls hindered his communication with Glory Boyz Entertainment boss, Chief Keef. But the pair still managed to communicate while Durk was locked down.

“At the same time I’m in there doing me, I don’t depend on nobody else,” Lil Durk explained. “With the State of your s**t you only get one call a week. 15 minutes, so I ain’t calling them, I’m calling my baby momma. She gonna relay messages. ”

Russell Simmons Explains Harriet Tubman Sex Tape, Disses Spike Lee (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Russell Simmons understands that he has probably p##### people off in the past. He also understands his upcoming content from his All Def Digital will p### people off in the future. He is fine with both, but in his interview with Cynthia LuCiette of BRKDWN, the legendary media mogul explained what made him remove the controversial “Harriet Tubman Sextape”.

According to Simmons, the NAACP informed him of the droves of Black women that were angered by his skit and

The NAACP called me and I said, ‘Oh s–t, really, really, really?’ The NAACP has called me before and has been mad at me and I work with them regularly, so I don’t always listen to everything they say. When they explained to me this, and when other people that I really respect explained to me…it was my brain that made the decision to pull it. Not outrage. There’s outrage in almost everything I do.

Simmons also took time out to address one of the most vocal detractors of the video, Spike Lee. After viewing the controversial skit, Lee took to his personal Twitter account to bash it:

Simmons felt the energy Lee spent on his digital diatribe of the skit could have been spent on better things, such as making “a decent movie:

It’s what he does. It’s okay. Listen, I have five charities. Maybe he can work for the Foundation For Ethnic Understanding, or he can work for the Diamond Empowerment Fund and build schools in Africa, or maybe he can work for the Hip Hop Summit Action Network and campaign against the drug lords, or maybe he can sleep in the park with me and Occupy one day. Or maybe he can use his energy and make a decent movie. But he had a lot of energy that he put into this. Too much energy.

[NEW MUSIC] The Weeknd – “Live For” (feat./ Drake)

In-Studio photos manifested into the first record between Drake and The Weeknd in two years. Over The Weeknd’s signature dark yet bouncy (emo-trap?) sounds, Drake unleashes a verse comparing himself to Prince, reaffirming his XO allegiance and questions his eventual fall.

The Weeknd’s debut album Kiss Land arrives September 10th, a week before Drake releases Nothing Was The Same.

Kendrick Lamar Explains Formation And Plans of Black Hippy Supergroup (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) In 1993, Wu-Tang Clan released their debut album Enter The 36 Chambers which subsequently spawned volumes of solo albums from its group members. 20 years later and emerging Hip Hop powerhouse Top Dawg Entertainment is prepping the release of their second studio album, Schoolboy Q’s Oxymoron, since signing with Interscope Records. The label’s current spokesperson, soft spoken but lyrically abrasive Kendrick Lamar spoke with Guerilla Union about the history of Top Dawg Entertainment’s best kept secret, Black Hippy.

Black Hippy consists of TDE labelmates Ab-Soul, Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock and Schoolboy Q. They have only released four songs as a collective but promise more is on the horizon.

Kendrick explains that the four MC’s premeditated this long wait until a proper group album, using that time to establish each individual artist.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Who’s Kendrick Response Got Crushed By Politics?

Guilty as charged!

I have heard that the music industry has formed a force field around Kendrick Lamar in the aftermath of his verse on Big Sean’s “Control.” You forgot that was Big Sean’s song, eh? Well, I am hearing that the “game” tried to stop the Joe Budden joint, but definitely prevented a Loso response. Seems like people up the chain want and need Kendrick to be successful at this time. Kendrick’s success now means success for a lot of people, even those that may want to battle him.

I have been told, several responses have been talked out of rappers or outright squashed to prevent friction. Who is doing the crushing of these higher profile replies? I’m hearing Interscope may be doing damage control.

Would Fav have anything for K-Dot if he did reply? He’s not exactly a battle-type MC even though he’ got punchlines historically. Anyway…yep. After Joe Budden, I don’t see a lot more high-profile responses coming…except one, which I will tell you about in a bit.
