Twitter Wars: Talib Kweli and Dream Hampton Battle Over Rick Ross Rape Lyric

(AllHipHop News)  Conscious rapper Talib Kweli for the past 15 years denounced Rick Ross’ highly publicized rape lyric on Huffington Post Live on April 2nd. In the interview, Kweli deems Ross’ rape lyric “unacceptable” however one of Kweli’s solutions was to embrace Ross who he deems  a “misguided 40 year old” (Ross is 37). Acclaimed author and journalist, Dream Hampton took issue to the severity the Black Star rapper placed on the rape culture.

A continuous back and forth debate ensued as Kweli reiterated his stance on the matter:

The two acknolwedeged on Twitter that they have been friends for over a decade and were actually with each other on the somber September 11th in 2001. The intellectual debate between friends soon turned personal when Talib reminded the co-author of Jay-Z’s Decoded book of his public support of hers against rabid Beyonce fans:

Dream Hampton is no stranger to Twitter confrontations turning into talking points in Hip Hop. In August of 2012, Hampton responded to a tweet regarding Jay-Z’s social awareness in music compared to Nas’ by claiming Nas had ghostwriters for his Untitled album he released in 2008

Meek Mill Helps Celebrate Relaunch Of King of Diamonds [PICS/VIDEO]

(AllHipHop News) “We at King of Diamonds throwing money by the case,” raps Meek Mill on his “Miss Me Freestyle.” Well on April 1st the Maybach Music Group emcee returned to the world-famous gentleman’s club in Miami for a grand reopening celebration.

Meek performed a set of seven songs in front of 2,500 guests that included Miami-based celebrities FloRida, Uncle Luke, and DJ Sam Sneak. The event, hosted by dancers Mink & Tokyo, was the highly anticipated relaunch for the recently renovated South Florida hot spot.

The remodeled KOD features a new floor-to-ceiling state of the art LED lighting system, a new blue and white color scheme, and of course new dancers.

“Disco” Rick Taylor (aka Mr. KOD) partnered with businessman Akinyele with the goal of making King of Diamonds the largest and most successful strip club in the world.

“We’re bringing all of the celebrities back to the club to make it the best it’s ever been,” says Akinyele in a statement. “We want the dancers and the people to have fun – to have the best time on earth because this is King of Diamonds.”

Akinyele and Taylor, along with the management team of Terry Elliott and Liz Cedeno, have a full week of festivities planned for the KOD relaunch.

Yesterday 106 and Park‘s Bow Wow hosted a college crowd at “Tuition Tuesdays.” Wednesday will feature appearances by former University of Miami All-American football player Bryant McKinnie and reality television star Joseline Hernandez from Love and Hip Hop Atlanta. Buzzing Atlanta rapper Young Scooter will perform at the club on Thursday night, and Jim Jones is scheduled to give a performance there this Friday.

“This week will feel like KOD Memorial Day Weekend here in Miami before the actual holiday. That’s how big this launch will be,” says Disco Rick.

Hip-Hop Rumors: The Game Got Some Explaining To Do! Baby Got A New Chick?

Well, the rumors come crumbling down as of late. Remember the rumor the other day about The Game giving a waiter a $6k?

RELATED: Hip-Hop Rumors: HOLY SH*T! THE GAME LEAVES $6,000 TIP TO WAITER!

The waiter commented in the comments under the pic that The Game didn’t really give him that money. Aw…that’s too bad. I guess The Game faked everybody out.

I was hoping. that one was true.

BABY OR SLIM SCOOPED PILAR SANDERS?

I don’t have the wherewithal to re-write this, but Sandra Rose is saying that Baby or Slim Williams has scooped Deion Sanders’ ex. At first I thought it had to be Baby, but Slim flies under the radar.

From Sandra Rose:

Deion Sanders’ estranged wife Pilar has a new man in her life, according to my rock solid source who demanded anonymity in exchange for this tea.

The reason this post is a Not So Blind Item is because I can’t publicly name Pilar’s sugar daddy. I am told that he is a very low key, very wealthy individual who prefers to keep his love life under wraps. I’m told that this recording executive based in Louisiana reaches into his deep pockets frequently and often to lavish Pilar with gifts and trips to faraway exotic locales.

deion-sanders-children_550x550

The multimillionaire record label owner also reportedly laces Pilar’s children with gifts including the custom t-shirts you see them wearing in these photos. I’m told that Pilar’s sugar daddy isn’t picking up her legal tab but he is paying for everything else, including a recent trip to Miami on a private jet. I was told: “That’s nothing but a phone call for him.”

Pilar and her beau have reportedly been dating for nearly a year. She will probably deny every bit of this post — as she should if she wants to keep that money pipeline open and flowing. I can’t tell you her sponsor’s name, but keep an eye on Pilar’s Twitter timeline; peep where she goes and who she associates with. His name should be obvious to you.

Top 10 Soul Singers Who Never Got Their 15 Minutes

Not all R&B singers are created equal.

In the world of Rhythm and Blues, many singers come in and become Pop superstars like Usher, Rihanna, Beyoncé and R. Kelly. But sometimes, even when the music is good, it seems that some singers just can’t get a break.

Not all singers are able to achieve mainstream success, and it can be attributed to legal battles, self esteem issues, laziness or just not being able to overcome industry politics.

Here’s a look at R&B singers between the ’90s and today who never quite received their fifteen minutes of fame.

10. Link

Link

In 1998 and 1999, there were two R&B songs that lit up the Billboard charts: “My Body” by LSG and “Meeting in My Bedroom” by Silk. Both songs were written by Relativity Records singer Link. Due to his writing success, Link was rewarded a record deal and released his first single “Whatcha Gone Do?”, which became a mild hit.

A song off the album, “Gimme Some” has become an underground sensation. As of March 2013, Link is planning a comeback and has released “Erotic“. Seems like some people are better off behind the scenes?

9. Sam Salter

Sam Salter

When you’ve got LaFace Records’ Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and L.A. Reid behind you, you’re in good hands, right? In 1997, Salter released his debut album It’s On Tonight, with the singles “After 12, Before 6” and “There You Are”. The singles became mildly popular, but failed to catch steam. The same year, Salter’s labelmate Usher released his sophomore album My Way which went on to sell 7 million copies and turned Usher into an R&B megastar.

Though Salter hasn’t experienced mainstream success as a solo artist, he’s written songs for artists including Babyface, Destiny’s Child, Tyrese and Omarion. Salter got his start early, as part of a group with singer Robin Thicke. He left the group and partnered with producer and writer Laney Stewart, who now works with popular LA-based singer Alex Jacke.

8. KeKe Wyatt

KeKe Wyatt

In 2000, KeKe Wyatt got her big break when she appeared on singer Avant’s debut album on a song titled “My First Love”. The duo worked so well together that Wyatt enlisted the help of Avant again on her Soul Sista debut for 2001’s “Nothing In This World”, a song that would prove to be Wyatt’s most popular to date.

In 2013, KeKe Wyatt and Avant teamed up for “You & I”. Has KeKe Wyatt’s appearance on TV One’s R&B Divas help further her career? No one seems to like the attitude as she usually appears as a “crazy” character.

7. Tynisha Keli
Tynisha Keli

In 2007, Tynisha Keli made her debut with the single “I Wish You Loved Me“. Though released that year, the song made its way on the internet years before it was officially released as a single, eventually becoming an underground hit. In 2009, her debut album The Chronicles of Tk was released via Warnes Bros. Records and was a commercial failure, with less than 11,000 albums sold.

In 2012, Keli surfaced again and released “Not Comin’ Back”, which failed to catch steam. Did Warner Bros. wait too long to capitalize on the success of Tynisha Keli’s independent movement?

6. JoJo
JoJo

In 2004, singer JoJo released “Get Out (Leave)”, the first single off her debut album that pushed worldwide sales to 3,000,000. Two years later, she followed up with her sophomore album, The High Road, which didn’t fare as well as the first.

In 2012, after a six year hiatus, JoJo returned with “Demonstrate”. The song, produced by Drake’s in-house producer Noah “40” Shebib, became popular on social networks but never gained any mainstream success. Later in the year, JoJo released her second mixtape, Agápēto great response.

What do you think is up with JoJo’s rocky rise to the top? Do you think European singers get flack for trying to do R&B? One thing is for sure – Homegirl can sing!

5. Brandon Hines

Brandon Hines
Singer Brandon Hines appeared on YouTube in 2006, with a song called “10“. It was followed up with several covers which includes the popular 1-million viewed “Pretty Wings” Maxwell cover.

The cover videos caught the attention of So So Def’s Jermaine Dupri who signed Hines to a deal. His first official single “Yes You Are” was released in 2012, but failed to garner mainstream interest. An album has yet to surface from this singer. Too much like Trey Songz?

4. Willie Mo. Jr. (formerly Pretty Willie)
Pretty Willie

In 2001, St. Louis native Pretty Willie signed with Universal Records and released his debut album Enter The Life of Suella. The album was a commercial failure and did not chart, but in 2004, the singer developed a deep underground following when his song “Lay Your Body Down” was featured in the film Johnson Family Vacation.

Today, Willie Mo has left the sex-filled music behind and chartered a different path as a gospel singer and motivational speaker. The gospel isn’t as good as his “Four Walls” bedroom jams, but we respect his change towards a man of faith.

3. Teedra Moses
Teedra Moses

Teedra Moses made her debut in 2004, with the critically acclaimed album Complex Simplicity. The album spawned two singles “Be Your Girl” and “You’ll Never Find (A Better Woman)” featuring Jadakiss. Though the album was a sales failure, Moses eventually independently released music via her social websites and garnered a cult-like following.

In a 2012 interview, Moses revealed she was working on her sophomore album, as the first lady of Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Imprint. She soon released “Another LuvR” featuring Wale. The album has yet to surface. Could the brash mouth and not-made-for-tv image be the cause of Moses’ failure to become a commercial success?

2. Marcus Cooper (formerly Pleasure P)

Pleasure P Photo

Considered an underground legend of R&B, Cooper got his start in 2005 as the stand-out singer of Hip Hop group Pretty Ricky.  In 2009, he released his solo debut The Introduction of Marcus Cooper with the singles “Under” and “Boyfriend #2”. The album was a moderate success, earning Cooper three Grammy nominations.

In 2012, he achieved writing success with Miami-native Flo Rida’s single “Wild Ones”, which has gone on to sell over 11 million copies. In 2009, Cooper got into legal battle when he was accused of sex offending. That one event, which came during his debut album release, seemed to cause the singer to lay low for a while. Cooper released the single “I Love Girls” in 2012. Did the sex offender charges cause Pleasure P’s image to drown or can he make a successful comeback?

AND NUMBER 1 goes to:

1. Jhené Aiko

Jhene Aiko

In the early 2000’s, with the success of R&B group B2K, we were introduced to a very young Jhené Aiko who was featured on many of the groups songs. Aiko utilized social networks and developed a strong following, eventually releasing her debut mixtape Sailing Soul(s) in 2011. The mixtape earned accolades and Aiko is now signed to producer No ID’s record label, through Def Jam Records.

In a 2012 interview, Aiko revealed her problem with authority, working with Kendrick Lamar and deets on her debut album Souled Out. In 2013, she released “Burning Man (3:16pm)”. No album release date has been confirmed. Could it be Aiko’s rebel attitude that holds her back from mainstream success?

Which of these artists would you like to see go mainstream? Please tell us in the comments!

Hip-Hop Rumors: Kanye Is P##### At G.O.O.D. Music?

UPDATE: I already got the update on this. This isn’t true. There is no connection with Cudi leaving and rumors and stuff. For whatever reason, some acts seem to feel music isn’t coming out of the camp fast enough. That is basically what Cudi leaving is – business, not beef

I don’t know exactly what for or what info, but world on the street is Kanye West is on a tear. He’s reportedly cutting people off and shelving artists. Why? All these damn leaks and rumors regarding him and Kim. I thought most of the rumors were trash and wrong, but perhaps there is more real to the rumors than previously expected. I personally don’t think Kid Cudi’s departure has anything to do with this, but others do. I mean, I can’t quite see it, but other people think there is a connection. I’m not sure who else could be on the shelf from that unless, perhaps, there are other reasons that extend beyond KimYe? I’ll be quite quiet for now, but I have a theory on who could be on the shelf

HERE’S SOMETHING FOR HIP-HOP

Good news. There’s no beef with CNN. My homie Glacierz hit me up and she’s down with Nore. You know her? She’s a dope chick.

Anyway, shout out to Glacierz. She’s about to make me dump Kelly Rowland with her repertoire there. Anyway, she hit me up and let me know that there’s no beef with in CNN. Not sure why my source insisted that something was up. I’m quite sure there is a different story with Prodigy, especially since that situation seemed to be open-ended. But, that’s the rumors, yo.

Anyway, CNN are reportedly working on new music. That is a good thing in the rap form.

What’s a funny thing is how cats act as if I gotta get it right every single time. No, I don’t. Die.

Nicki Minaj Says She’s “Lyrically Better Than Most Of The Male Rappers”

(AllHipHop News) YMCMB rapper Nicki Minaj made a pretty bold statement during an interview with MTV this week.

“I am lyrically better than most of the male rappers out there. Yes, I’m gonna say it. I don’t get the credit that I deserve.”

Nicki went on to speak about what she’s see as a lack of respect for her lyrical ability.

“I’ve put in my work lyrically, and people act like it doesn’t exist,” said the current American Idol judge.

This feeling of not being properly recognized may stem from Minaj not making MTV’s “Hottest MCs in the Game” list this year.

[ALSO READ: All Hail The King: MTV Names Kendrick Lamar The Hottest MC of 2012 + VIDEO]

Last year Minaj became the first female to be included in the annual countdown of top rappers according to the cable network, but the “Brain Trust” decided that Nicki wasn’t one of the 10 hottest emcees over the last 12 months.

She pointed out her inclusion at number four in 2012 on her song “Roman Reloaded” off her sophomore album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded:

You in the booth, but I’m who you be channeling
Why they never bring your name up at the panel then?
Hottest MC’s, top five!
You need money, I got mine

Minaj believes her skills as a rapper are not properly compared to those of her male counterparts because Hip Hop is a male dominated industry.

“Men run the Hip Hop game. Let’s be honest,” said Nicki. “They’re the program directors. They wanna be able to rap stuff and say it. They’re not gonna recite a female. They just feel funny.”

While Nicki is still dropping videos from her Pink Friday Roman Reloaded- The Re-Up she released last November, the Trinidadian-born artist is currently back in the studio recording her third official LP rumored to be titled Pink Friday: The Pinkprint.

Watch the interview below and check out Nicki’s latest video “High School” featuring Lil Wayne.

What do you think? Is Nicki one of the best lyricists in the game right now?

Kid Cudi Reveals He Is No Longer On G.O.O.D. Music

(AllHipHop News) During an interview with Power 106 in Los Angeles on Tuesday Kid Cudi announced he has decided to leave the Kanye West led G.O.O.D. Music label.

Cudi made it clear that the split is not over any beef with Kanye or anyone else at the imprint.

“Man, everything is cool. Everything is peace with everyone on the label,” Cudi told host Yesi Ortiz. “Me and Kanye were talking on the phone the other day… about me wanting to start my own direction, and he got it because he’s trying to start his new path and try new things as an artist.”

Cudi’s decision to leave G.O.O.D. was not a spur of the moment choice. He said that even though he did not reveal that he was leaving until recently, he made up his mind to go his own way six months ago.

He also disclosed that he ran the idea past two of Kanye’s closest confidants – his manager Don C and his mentor Jay-Z.

“I went through a process where I talked to Don C and then I went and talked to Jay-Z and got their opinions about how to approach him about things that I wanted to talk to him about, and everybody gave me their blessing.

None of G.O.O.D. Music’s remaining roster members will appear on Cudi’s upcoming album Indicud, but he said that he’s still open to work with his former crew in the future.

“That don’t mean I’m not gonna be making music with them. It just means that little baby [G.O.O.D. Music logo] ain’t gonna be on my album.”

Indicud is set for release on April 23. Cudi recently released the latest single from the LP “Girls” featuring Too $hort.

Talib Kweli: Lil Wayne Should Apologize, But Its Bigger Than Weezy

lilwayne_emmett_till

Talib Kweli is steadfastly finalizing his new album, Prisoner of Consciousness, he took the opportunity to tell AllHipHop he thoughts on the Lil Wayne’s comments on Emmett Till, where the Young Money rapper made a disparaging comment about Emmett Till and women as well. The punchline said, “Beat that p****y up like Emmett Till.” Talib comments for the first time on the matter and says it extends beyond Lil Wayne and into general culture, selling out and embracing violators to create real change.

From AllHipHop on Vimeo.

“My opinion, I think that Lil Wayne should apologize to the Till Family. But, its not for me to say, its for him to do. That’s what I would do. That’s what I think is the smart thing to do, especially since you apologized to LeBron for the Miami Heat thing. But, from my perspective, wherever he’s at with it in the world, and his mind space and the surroundings around him are not necessarily making him aware that he needs to apologize. The surroundings around him are making him aware that, “You know what? You live in Miami. You should apologize.” Do I think that’s a little backwards? Yeah. But, I think that its a little hypocritical of us to put that squarely on Lil Wayne’s shoulders.”

“We been listening to dudes talk about, “We gonna beat the pu**y up” records with all different sorts of metaphors before the Till family got affected. if we are going to encourage that and like it, we as a community gotta take the blame. I think its very convenient for people to take a certain line from a song that’s still creative. We’re not talking about censorship. We don’t wanna censor nobody. But I do think its a bit hypocritical. There is a line in the sand you have to draw. This is the part I find hypocritical. When you criticize Lil Wayne and it doesn’t stop. It becomes ‘He’s a monster and he’s destroying Hip-Hop. I wish he would die. I wish he would stop making records.’ When it goes to that, thats not something I can condone. And that will also make an artist say, ‘Well, f**k what you gotta say. My fans support me.’ What I think its the better way is through outreach and unity in Hip-Hop – finding the similarities rather than the differences. That’s why I work for these artists. For me, its art first. When you judge whether or not I should be working on an artist, the only thing you should judge is the song.”

Good lord. Karma comes fast and Karma comes slow. This time it worked a wonder on a would be purse snatcher! The Aussie their was in Perth and snagged a woman’s pocket book and thought he was running out of the door. But, he was actually running into a straight up glass window. The window knocked him out instantly and kicked his a$$ when he hit the ground. You gotta see this.

The only thing is…Karma allowed him to escape with this accomplice in a getaway car. People were helping the thief, because they didn’t know he had just robbed a 50-year-old lady.

Nate Dogg’s Son a Top Football Recruit; Considering Scholarship at USC

(AllHipHop News) Apparently USC and UCLA are the places to go school if your dad was a famous rapper and you’re looking to make it to the NFL or NBA.

First Master P’s son, Lil Romeo, played basketball at USC.  Then Diddy’s son, Justin Combs, made UCLA ‘s football team as a cornerback.  Then, Snoop’s son, Cordell Broadus, was offered a scholarship to UCLA shortly after that.

Now reports are surfacing that Nate Dogg’s son, born Naijiel Hale, is considering taking a football scholarship to USC too.

While fans of Nate Dogg still remember his uncanny ability to sing hooks, his son is making his own strides on the football fields receiving interest from a host of schools including Arizona, Cal, Oregon, Arizona State and the aforementioned USC.

Hale is reportedly ranked in the top 25 of all cornerbacks in the nation as part of the 2014 class, and he’s ranked in the top 25 of all ranked players from the state of California.

“I’m not sure right now (about committing),” Hale said. “I don’t even know. It may be, it may not be. It’s more about getting it first.”

Most recently in Snoop Lion’s new movie, Reincarnated, Snoop elaborates on his relationship with Nate Dogg and the loss he suffered losing one of the founding members of the legendary West Coast tri, 213 (Nate Dogg, Warren G and Snoop Dogg).

The singer and rapper, born Nathaniel Dwayne Hale, passed away just over two years ago on March 15, 2011 after suffering from complications with repeated strokes and cardiac arrest.

Check out his son’s highlight reel below and check for him in the coming seasons at USC!
