Pusha T: Pushin’ “Cruel Summer”, Christianity and The Clipse Like a D-Boy

It might have been a Cruel Summer for Kanye West, but for Pusha T, it’s all G.O.O.D. One half of the celebrated Virginia duo, The Clipse,  Pusha T is all over the new G.O.O.D music project, and he feels like even though this is some of the greatest music ever compiled on a compilation, the best is yet to come.

Pusha T took a few minutes out from his Hawaiian vacation to give AllHipHop.com his thoughts on spirituality and G.O.O.D  music:

AllHipHop.com: God has been central theme in most of your album covers. Does this industry make you struggle with your spirit at all?

Pusha T: No, not actually. I think I’m pretty God fearing. My sentiments are usually just sayings, like I am a Baptist, raised in the church, and I am raised in VA, so it’s just Southern life. It’s like our talk, our lingo we use, so it’s a part of my upbringing.

AllHipHop.com: Is Clipse still gonna remain true to the group that we all know and love since one of you is a dedicated Christian?

Pusha T: I’m a Christian! What you tryin’ to say d#####? [laughter] I feel like Clipse is definitely gonna be. First of all, we’re brothers, so the breakup type of talk isn’t gonna happen. Number two, Malice has always been the introspective one, the consequential one. Spirituality has always been in the music. He’s the one who came up with the Lord Willing album cover and title. I just feel like Malice is growing, man, and when we get together musically, he’s still gonna have that because when he speaks, he speaks with that level of consequential thinking. So I think people should just be in store for that great music, and look for that dynamic to come together for something amazing.

AllHipHop.com: You think the time apart has helped make you stronger as an MC?

Pusha T: I don’t know if it’s helped me; I just think it’s opened me up to playing the rap game more. Like I don’t think I’ve been this much of a rapper in my life, and I didn’t have to be when I had my brother with me. I didn’t have to like none of these muthaf*ckas.

AllHipHop.com: Well, it doesn’t seem like you do like a lot of them. Who do you like?

Pusha T: Oh I’m fans of a lot of people, and people would never know that because I never kicked it with people outside of my family, meaning the Neptunes. But everybody knows I’m a true fan of Fabolous…I’m a true fan of Slaughterhouse. I’m a true fan of a lot of people, but it doesn’t mean that I hang out with these guys or anything, and people would think I’m on some snob sh*t, but really, people always said Clipse was on some snob sh*t, because we never really did much kicking it. And being in cahoots with a bunch of m###’s, we never did that. But I’m a fan of a lot of people; that’s just three I like a lot.

AllHipHop.com: Tell me what you like about Cruel Summer since you’re all over it.

Pusha T: The album itself is just like, people are going to look at the high level of the quality of musicianship and rap and it’s just a f*cking…like the songs on this album are like…people don’t treat a compilation album or a crew album like we treated Cruel Summer. Cruel Summer is really somebody’s album.

If Ye had’ve said f*ck all you all and just done this album, and said yeah, I’ll let a couple of y’all feature, but this is my sh*t…it would be stupid, everybody would be goin’ nuts. This album, man, the level of mentality in the verses and the musicality is like opposite worlds coming together on a record, and their sh*t comes out crazy! Like Raekwon and Common, yo? Raekwon, Common, 2 Chainz [screams!], and it comes out like we’re a super-group.

AllHipHop.com: Is there anybody, including yourself, who you feel stood out as particularly great on this project?

Pusha T: I think everybody’s great. There is so much greatness on there, but there are some days that I feel like hearing different songs. Like when I was here [Hawaii] about two weeks ago, me and ‘Ye drove around for hours and listened to this sh*t from front to back. It’s like one minute I may want to hear the Teyana and John Legend record, and that ain’t got sh*t to do with Hip-Hop. I mean, people are gonna be so happy to hear this album, because it’s really a strong album. Man, you got Raekwon on records, you got Ghostface on records – you know damn well I wanna hear that, but it’s just a collection of greatness.

AllHipHop.com: How is it your solo album going to differ from what we hear on Cruel Summer?

Pusha T: Just expect the best rap album of the year.

AllHipHop.com: I know you have to go, but can I just get your thoughts on President Obama and if you think we need him in office another four years?

Pusha T: We definitely need Obama for another four years. I feel like if nothing else for motivation and to show how much America has grown. Let’s not get over that so quickly, I need us to process the fact that Obama is really in office and he’s helping work things out.  No not everything is being done but one man can never do everything it’s too much for one man to do, but he damn sure has been finding and making his way and I think it’s an inspiration.

Check out Pusha T and his G.O.O.D. Music family’s Cruel Summer – available in stores and online now.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Clark Atlanta Puts The Money Up, T.I. Turns It Down?

You know T. I. is from ATL, right? Bankhead, I do believe. I thought it was Buckhead once and got totally messed up once. Nevertheless, the homey Tip must be doing very well these days. This dude , I am being told, was offered a MEAN $80,000 to perform a 45 minute set at the prestigious Clark Atlanta University! And T.I. reportedly said NAW!

Now, I don’t know what his money is like, but it must be GREAT for him to turn down such easy money. But, here is the thing. People around the way are mumbling a bit. “Why wouldn’t T.I. do a show like that for his hometown folks?” Nobody really knows the answer, but I’m sure the reasoning is good. I need a reality show, because the paper must be magnificent! CAU, hit me up at [email protected] and I will perform for yall…$10k!

Anyway, T.I,’s a busy man. He’s got an album on deck, a reality show that’s running right now and he’s on the hit cable series “Boss.”

We can’t question the actions of the ATL Boss!

Kanye West Sex Tape Being Shopped; Rapper Reportedly In “Tears”

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Kanye West could be “thrust” into the spotlight with his latest release – a new 20-minute sex tape featuring the rapper that is being shopped around.

RadarOnline.com reports that a source is shopping the raunchy tape to various media outlets.

The representative for Radar stated that they had seen the sex tape in full and confirmed it was indeed Kanye West.

The 20-minute tape was reportedly shot in a hotel room, with an unidentified female, who resembles Kanye’s current girlfriend, Kim Kardashian.

At the beginning of the video, the woman clearly states she is 18-years old.

She claims that she is married, and she’s there to have intercourse with Kanye because she and her husband “don’t have sex anymore.”

A source said that Kanye West is terrified of the tape being leaked and that he was doing anything to keep the tape private.

“If this were to hit the market it would be worth a fortune, there would definitely be a lot of people wanting to see this!”

The sex tape far outweighs the nude pictures that were circulating of Kanye West several years ago.

In June, Kanye “accidentally” tweeted racy photos of himself and a p### star named Amia Miley, from a hotel bedroom.

The tape could also be a serious “blow” to the rapper’s career.

“Kanye was practically in tears when he heard the tape was being shopped.”

Hip-Hop Rumors: Bizzy Bone, Jay-Z and 106 And Park!

Damn. I didn’t know so many people had hate for the show that Free and AJ and Terrance and Rocsi made awesome. Well, the rumors were rampant, but premature. The 106 twitter account has been deflecting rumors of the shows demise. AllHipHop’s news section even covered it. Here are the the tweets. Some of the replies were EH…harsh.

Anyway…I can’t help but be a bit sad at seeing Terrence and Rox go.

We really need Free on my…I mean, on the air over there at BET.

Honestly, I just did this lame rumor to post a picture of Free’s assets.

JAY-Z IS WINNING!

Hip-Hop has gone into the level above the next level with this one. As crazy as it sounds, its so true. Jay-Z, an ex D-boy-turned-rapper, is now the president’s friend. Wow. Beyonce smiling bigger than…wow.

Photo tweeted by President Barack Obama showing him with Jay-Z and Beyonce at last night’s fundraiser in Chelsea.

BIZZY BONE ADDRESSES DRUG RUMORS

AllHipHop got at the boy Bizzy Bone and got him to address those pesky rumors of drub addiction.

RELATED: Hip-Hop Rumors: Is Bizzy Bone On That Molly?

AllHipHop.com: Anytime you get to a point like that, everyone always wants to say something. Those rumors that MediaTakeOut.com had about you being on drugs – how much did that bother you?
Bizzy Bone: I mean, you know what, I’m gonna be very, very honest with you. I can’t comment on that, and I can’t talk about that particular situation at this point. But just on my behalf and in my defense, I’d like to tell my fans, as far as the Bone Thugs-N-Harmony core fanbase that believe in the music, them grateful dead motherf*ckers that been there for 10, 20 years, some of them been there for two, three years, some of them been there for five years, I want to let them know everything that I’m doing is not just for me, it’s so I can keep putting out great music, they can keep enjoying music, and their children can see a young, vibrant, healthy Bizzy Bone that they used to see. And that’s what I’m doing it for as well, if that makes sense to any of my muthaf*ckas out there.

Roscoe Dash Says Kanye West Didn’t Give Him Credit on “Cruel Summer” Tracklisting

(AllHipHop News) Atlanta rapper and songwriter Roscoe Dash recently took to Twitter to voice his displeasure with not being named in the credits on Kanye West’s newly released G.O.O.D. music compilation, Cruel Summer.

Roscoe voiced his opinion on the social media site, proclaiming that he deserved credit for the track “To the World”, and that he also wrote the hook to Wale and Miguel’s #1 hit song, “Lotus Flower Bomb”.

In the rant on Twitter, Roscoe referenced an interview that Kanye West released on YouTube.

“Everybody go get the G.O.O.D album and listen to #1 then watch @kanyewest interview … & tell me y I’m not on the credits,” Roscoe tweeted.

After several hours of comments from fans, and after setting the blog world on fire with his incendiary statements, Roscoe decided to clarify that he solely wrote the hook on the Wale song, and not the whole song itself.

“After getting off the phone with @wale I feel like I need to clarify I WROTE THE HOOK for “lotus flowerbomb” not his verses,” Roscoe clarified.

West has yet to comment on the situation. See Roscoe’s Twitter timeline below:

EXCLUSIVE: Imaginative Author R. Kayeen Thomas Reflects on How our Enslaved Past Shapes our Hip-Hop Present

Hip-Hop purists and die-hards often question the substance of today’s rap music. While “snap and trap” music dominates the airwaves, many fans of the music and the culture lament the “dumbing down” of the music where substance is relegated to the Internet. The question of “What Happened to REAL Hip-Hop?” has troubled author R. Kayeen Thomas for years and fueled the plot of his debut novel, Antebellum.

A teacher, activist, and author, Thomas penned a masterpiece with Antebellum. The fictional story of a famous rapper known by the inflammatory stage name, “Da Ni**a,” the book takes the protagonist on a journey of self-discovery when he is transported back to slavery times after being shot by a rival crew. While enslaved, “Da Ni**a,” who remembers his previous life, experiences first-hand the trials and tribulations of his forefathers and foremothers who were enslaved while yet yearning for freedom.

The book, which debuted earlier this year, takes readers on a hard-hitting and gritty ride through the entertainment industry and through the dark days of slavery as the main character is “broken,” and he deals with the decisions he made as an artist. Antebellum is an amazing and well-crafted story that will have people thinking about way after they turn the final pages.

AllHipHop.com spoke to R. Kayeen Thomas about Antebellum, Hip-Hop, and how our beloved culture is shaping future generations while carrying the legacy of those generations long past.

AllHipHop.com: So, how did you come up with the idea [for Antebellum]?

R. Kayeen Thomas: It was an idea that was really put into my head for about a year before I put pen to pad, of an idea going back to slavery times and what would that look like, and how would it change him. It was kind of representative of myself being a part of the Hip-Hop generation and Hip-Hop culture. But also having a really deep love for African-American culture, I came to a point where I was conflicted with my love of Hip-Hop and the music which had become, quite frankly, dangerous for the culture and the community. The negative images, the negative messages, the misogyny, the sexism, the drugs, the violence just being pounded over and over again. This book was my attempt to stay in both worlds, and to bridge the gap between the hip-hop generation and the previous generation.

AllHipHop.com: I find that interesting, because as we get older and the culture get older, our ears and tastes change. There becomes this inter-generational generation gap. I can imagine some of the backlash is going to be that there is this “conscious” brother who is attacking “snap and trap” music. How do you reconcile that sort of internal conflict that Hip-Hop has with itself?

R. Kayeen Thomas: Right now, there are like three different generations in Hip-Hop. I feel like I’m right in the middle. A lot of the new stuff, I just can’t get with it. As far as my own taste, I’m still with 2Pac, early Eminem stuff, early DMX, even that music wasn’t uplifting. I just do recognize that there was a substance with the Hip-Hop that I grew up with than what there is today. There was still more of a thought of quality. Even with music that has negativity, if it’s not artistic or purposeful, why is it even on the radio?

AllHipHop.com: But, who makes those decisions?

R. Kayeen Thomas: At this point, it’s very clear that whatever is introduced to the public as the new cool is going to become cool. This industry has more power than people even find comfortable to recognize. There is definitely some sentiment at the top coming down. There is only so much socially conscious music that you are going to hear, like a quota. We got Kendrick Lamar, as far as the new Hip-Hop people; he is by far, my favorite. With Kendrick, there is a balance. But, he is rare. The machine puts out a lot of people who don’t have substance; you get one of them for every ten others.

AllHipHop.com: The main character’s performance name is “Da N*gga.” Why did you choose such a controversial name?

R. Kayeen Thomas: I really wanted to play on that name and how it is so over used in Hip-Hop. Ninety-nine percent of the time, if you listen to an unedited song, you are going to hear the word n*gga. But what about people who are outside of the inner city urban community, people who can’t distinguish between n-i-g-g-a and n-i-g-g-e-r. What does it mean for them? How does it affect their psyche?

AllHipHop.com: In the book, you chose to put the character back into slavery – not in the field – but being broken in the most inhumane way possible. Why?

R. Kayeen Thomas: I think there are so many watered down images of slavery and of the civil rights era, it makes it really easy for people to say, ‘yeah, it was bad, but we’ve moved on.’ So I chose the most painful aspect of slavery because that’s how it was. That’s what Black people had to go through in this country. I wanted that to hit home. I’m not going to give you anything sugarcoated – that would be cheating myself and cheating my readers.

AllHipHop.com: What impact do you hope the book has on the urban entertainment industry?

R. Kayeen Thomas: I would love for this book to spark a national discussion on race and Hip-Hop. That goes beyond the entertainment industry. For people to really sit down and discuss are there parallels between the industry and slavery. How can we make our music more of our own? Because it’s fiction, people are free to take from it what they want. It’s open to interpretation. What I sought out to do was to create a character who embodies today’s mainstream Hip-Hop and put him through a situation and have it affect and change him. I want people to think, “If I had to go through what my ancestors went through as a rapper, would my lyrics still be the same?”

Antebellum: A Novel by R. Kayeen Thomas is in stores now. Connect with him on Twitter (@RKayeenThomas).

Mrs. Obama appeared on 102 Jamz, where she was discussing the importance of voting in this years election, as well as the music she works out to. Mrs. Obama revealed that one of her favorite tracks was the late Heavy D.’s 1989 classic “We Got Our Own Thang,” as well as Chubb Rock’s party rocking classic “Treat ‘Em Right.” “A little Chubb Rock, a little Heavy D. R&B singer Randy Jackson of the Jackson family fame recently won a legal victory, thanks to attorney Bret D. Lewis, who has also represented a number of rappers in the past. Randy Jackson was involved in a bitter child support battle with Alajandra Jackson. Court papers revealed that Alajandra waited until after the children were adults when she attempted to enforce a $500,000 award against Randy Jackson, stemming from a judgment in 1990. The court recently found that Randy Jackson was never served with a summons or complaint, and set aside the default judgment and all arrears. “I love my children, and I have always loved my children. I will always take care of them and I have always taken care of them. I thank my attorney Bret D. Lewis for all his hard work in bringing about justice for me,” Randy Jackson said. Bret D. Lewis has represented artists like Snoop Dogg, Daz Dillinger, Knocturnal and others.

Epic Fail Of The Day: App Maker Shows Hate For Chris Brown In New App

You know what? When Chris Brown beat up Rihanna, I was one of the loud voices of anger at him. Some three or four years later, ITS OVER PEOPLE! Not only has he been more or less cool with his life, he’s moved on. He has a new girl and is cool with RiRi. People have done worse. Go boycott “Killer Kill” Phil Spector and his hair!

Anyway, here is the point. Some idiot app maker has decided to make an entire app called the Brown Out, which allows you to erase Chris Brown from the internet. Why him? There are so many other annoying celebs. The Toronto-based company told CBS: “If he wants to get a tattoo on his neck that kind of looks like Rihanna we are going to write about it. But at some point, it reaches Chris Brown idiocy saturation. All we had to do is build a frame where it recognizes the word and ignores it and literally erases it. You can see everything except his name and his face.” They did this with rock group Nickleback too so maybe they got what they wanted – PRESS. Wait, I didn’t even say their name. LOL!

A Revisit With Bizzy: The Bone Thug Finds His Harmony [Part 1]

He was instrumental in building one of the most accomplished, innovative, and celebrated groups in Hip-Hop history, yet when the name Bryon “Bizzy Bone” McCane comes up, there seems to always be more questions than answers.

For years, Bizzy’s sanity, sobriety and commitment to his craft have come into question. For much of the new millennium, it seemed the Hip-Hop community had written off the Ohio rapper, and were quick to put him in the pile of athletes and entertainers that couldn’t shake the pitfalls associated with fame.

When one looks at the recent history of Bizzy Bone, it isn’t unfair to think the Grammy Award winner’s best days are clearly behind him. His weight ballooned to nearly 200 pounds, the turmoil surrounding his group reached and all-time high, and his profile within Hip-Hop was diminishing.

However, those who know the history of Bryon McCane, surely knew the Ohio native wouldn’t go down without a fight. After overcoming a childhood filled with abuse, a kidnapping, and poverty one would have to see to believe, getting his music career back on track was a walk in the park.

After putting down the bottle and dropping nearly 40 pounds, Bizzy has a new lease on life and a brand new outlook. In this AllHipHop.com exclusive, the Bone Thugs N Harmony member makes it crystal clear that the Bizzy Bone you think you knew is long gone, and that the rap game may not be ready for what a more focused Bryon McCane has in store for everyone in 2012 and beyond.

AllHipHop.com: Bizzy, anybody who saw footage of “Rock The Bells” noticed there’s a big physical change with you. You managed to get in much better shape. Tell us how that came about, and how much weight you lost.

Bizzy Bone: Well, you know it’s been a process and it’s like, 30-plus pounds thus far. It’s just beautiful, you know what I’m sayin’, getting back into shape. It’s everything you can think of – mentally, physically, spiritually – it’s the same story as it always is when a brother trying to do better for himself, you know?

AllHipHop.com: A big part of a change like that for anybody, there’s a large mental aspect to it. How much have you changed mentally in that span?

Bizzy Bone: Well, mentally, the drinking has stopped. I go the club, I get a club soda, you know what I’m sayin’, have a Swisher in the back with a couple of security guards, come back in and I be already on mine, grab me a Red Bull or something.

So thinking like that and thinking 17 shots of Cognac and whatever is flowing around that evening, it’s just a different mindstate, like a different world, especially in Hip-Hop. You conduct yourself a lot more reserved, open, but more reserved, and hella less intoxicated and sh*t like that. That sh*t been played out, being all drunk in public. Do that sh*t at your crib, man.

AllHipHop.com: The funny thing when I scour the message boards and hear people talking about you, you haven’t put out music since the transformation, but everybody is treating it as Bizzy Bone is back. You look like your old self, it seems like you got more energy. How close to true is that?

Bizzy Bone: Yes, the energy is back. The drink is in the gutter. Because when you get to a certain age it’s like, look, if I got a five or I got a 10-year plan I can’t really have them long nights with the bottle. Or if I only have a two-year plan, or a six-month plan. So I’m working on the five to 10-year plan, so when we done and we finally say you know what, I love music forever, right now it’s time for me to let the kids do what they do. You know, 50 [Cent], Jigga age type sh*t. When you get to be around Jay-Z age and you make your mint, you make your life, you enjoy your life, and you take the good with the bad, that’s what I’m working up towards. So I got my 15-year plan. Just had a birthday, so still the 15-year plan is in effect, and I’m just happy, man, just staying young, vitamin’d up and healthy as I can, bro.

AllHipHop.com: Now one thing to help a fan understand, and this doesn’t just apply to Hip-Hop, you lived that rock-n-roll lifestyle, and when you were doing it you were making your best music back in the day. But then I guess it hits a certain point where it becomes negative.  How do you get to a different place, be happy, not live that lifestyle, and still be able to put out that music that people want to hear?

Bizzy Bone: Being a musician…it’s not difficult to put out great music, it’s whatever you’re into at the time you enjoy. You smoke weed, you rap about weed. You drink alcohol, you sing about alcohol. You sing about the things that you do.

I’m the kind of musician that has come to terms with simply, no matter what, a solid voice and a beautiful voice, and when you can definitely sing and carry a tune, you can stay in this business.  So to me I’m more into that music, and keeping that Hot 16 lovely. I just did a song with The Game, and I’m killin’ it. Being healthy, you get to enjoy it more as opposed to being drunk.  So it’s like an experience that I know has happened for me, but I never experienced it, because I was too g######## obliterated out of my muthaf*ckin’ mind. So it’s a beautiful, beautiful thing.

AllHipHop.com: Bone came together recently for “Rock the Bells”; to be recognized and be on a stage like that in New Jersey and in California, how did that whole experience feel?

Bizzy Bone: It really started with a show and a festival when I was really right about there, but I didn’t put the bottle down. It started with a festival with DJ Quik, and I was watching Tyler, The Creator. And he was jamming to the Dipset show, and I had did a show with Quik and did a guest appearance, 30,000 people there. And right there when I seen the energy of that young brother, and I seen his excitement towards the love of Hip-Hop, man, it made me say that’s what I love it for! And from that point on, I started on a serious musical mission. I can’t complain. All of us there, everybody standing strong, all five Bone members, getting back into the vibe of things. So it’s just beautiful, totally, totally beautiful, back into the swing of things.  Man! It’s just a really good feeling right now.

I want to give the kids and the younger generation a shot to see the Bizzy Bone that their parents seen, or whoever seen.  So that to me is very important in a career.  This is a career, this is music, and I do love it. And before we leave, we want to do something really, really nice for the people, something great to remember.  I don’t want nobody to remember me, like, f*cked up and sh*t, you know what I’m sayin’, in some f*ckin’ back alley and sh*t like that.

AllHipHop.com: You mention “Rock The Bells” and the excitement that you had being a part of that. The past few months, things have seemed to be pretty good with Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, but there’s still that uncertainty. Do you think that being able to come together, the five of you, and being able to see people you’ve influenced, and being able to perform in front of a crowd like that, you think that gave you guys a shot in the arm?

Bizzy Bone: Well, I think the problem as we all sat back, ‘cause after the shows, we all sat down, all four members. Flesh stayed home because he needed to get some rest, but the rest of the members sat down and said okay, what the f*ck should we do after this? And everybody was just kind of trying to ponder on what the f*ck we was gon’ do. So the plan is basically, everybody get they passports on one super photo-imposed copy, so we can start sending it out, and then we all just gon’ get back on the road, get some road work done overseas, get the meshin’ and gellin’ back with each other, and put together a record that the people can love.

My personal opinion is, when we’re gellin’ together, it’s not just five members being alive, or five members being there, or their voices being there, I think when our hearts are into it like it was on that stage at “Rock The Bells,” and it stays that way to where it’s not just a two-day, or three-day, or four-day, or two-week thing, that’s when they gon’ get some of that original buddah lova bomb sh*t.  You dig?

Jada Pinkett-Smith, Alicia Keys, Pink Team To Tackle Pimping With PSA’s

(AllHipHop News) Actress Jada Pinkett-Smith and singers Alicia Keys and Pink are joining forces to help put a dent in the pimping game.

The three women have joined forces to help create Public Service Announcements (PSA’s) that focus on the plight of human trafficking.

The spots rolled out yesterday (September 19), as part of mtvU’s “mtvU Against Our Will Campaign.”

Each one of the ladies helped create six Public Service Announcements, where they voice poetry written by women who have survived being trafficked.

Alicia Keys reads a spot titled “Pimps,” Pink reads a poem titled “I Remember,” while Jada Pinkett-Smith recites poetry in the PSA “Nightlife.”

The campaign was launched in partnership with Girls Educational and Mentoring Services (GEMS), an organization that helps to raise awareness amongst students, about prostitution and modern-day slavery.

The spot debuted to over 750 college campuses and 9 million college students nationwide.
