ABSOLUTE REASON: What ARE You Waiting For?

“What’s for dinner tonight,” asked the newly signed rapper to his current girlfriend.

“Turnip Stew, baby,” she answered.

“Turnip Stew again… really,” replied the disappointed tax write-off, who has no clue one of the songs on his EP is being fragmented in the studio. The A&R that signed him has a money making client the song would work perfectly for.

“I don’t pick the turnips, you do,” she answered, finally showing her frustrations. “Damn, what are we going to do John?! I’ve invested my entire life savings into your Rap career. And where are we? In my apartment! Eating turnip *&^*ing stew! I believed in you John. You know what?! I’m not calling you your rap name until checks start coming in. Popping bottles? Please…”

“Absolute Reason” began a few months ago with rappers having this insatiable urge to steal your girlfriend. Today, this column will touch on his relationship at home. C’mon, show me a rapper without a girlfriend, and I’ll show you a rapper that NO ONE likes. He’d call her a “ride or die” or his “main,” anything but what she truly is. She is the pulse of his dreams, and the benefactor of his written riches. But what happens when he doesn’t make it.

In most cases, the rapper’s girlfriend is or could very well be a ‘model’ under today’s criterion. She grew up on Hip-Hop, loves rap, and loves (break) dancing. She has a favorite rapper of her own and is intrigued by the opportunity of one day becoming a Power Couple. Not to mention her level of education often trumps him. So, you’re the rapper who presents her with that opportunity to become that couple. She welcomes you in with open arms, becoming your cheerleader, your ‘manager,’ and your lead investor. You’re giving her the beginnings of a life she’s fantasized about. Sadly, she’s working harder at your career than you are.

Showcase after “sell 15 tickets for $10 each to perform” showcase, she’s in the front row with her girls, cheering on her baby. She’s working the room, using her ‘pretty girl’ looks to network efficiently. On special occasions, she’s purchases items which fit your image needs (jewelry, sneakers, jackets, etc). You “have very bad credit, she’d help you lease that whip.” She’s doing it all because one day she believes you two could become the next “T.I. and Tiny”. However, all you see is the next opportunity to waste away studio time smoking and drinking, joking around with your crew.

30 is creeping up on you. The only time you thought about a ‘Plan B’ was the morning after. Music is all you want to know in this life. Which is awfully selfish if you ask your girlfriend. She’s dealing with sleepless nights. Intuition is eating her spirit alive. Never in her nightmares she’d believe you’d turn a cold heart to her. You’re sleeping around with every low-end “Dirty Diana” you could find. She can’t seem to shake this ‘cold.’ She’s scared to set up an appointment with her gynecologist, fearing the worst will be confirmed. And with that being said, she still believes in you. She’s still investing in you. While you’re a mixtape dropping, stripper swapping, basement studio (no, disrespect) hopping shell of a professional, who hasn’t been and is scared to become! So what ARE you waiting for?

Here is my Absolute Reason:

Your lyrics speak of going hard or going home. Well, how about you go home to your girlfriend and apologize for being an arrogant burden on her life. Do something substantial for her like getting a job or finishing your education. UPS is hiring, and there is nothing wrong with that! There are thousands of young men sleeping on somebody’s couch, who think otherwise.

Further your education! Last week, Drake proudly announced that he received his High School diploma. There’s nothing wrong with that! I’m proud of him, by the way. And, if the rumors about the small piece of the pie Drake is eating from are true, you best believe he won’t stop at a diploma.

Be a realist for once in your life. Are you so full of yourself that you don’t see the type of engine an artist like Kendrick Lamar has behind him? The young man is powered by Interscope with a hybrid following of fans. He has the city (L.A.). He is the penmanship. He has the elite mentorship (Dr. Dre).

You have your girlfriend, and there’s nothing wrong with that! Accept it, and give her the family she deserves. Because if you have mainstream Rap dreams, and only the people in your State heard of you, and most of them are rappers, Turnip Stew is all you have. Hobbies don’t put steak on the table.

We all have a friend or family member on both sides of the equation who desperately needs to read this editorial. Just slip the link by them. It will save you from telling them, they’re wack!

Hip-Hop Rumors: Is There A Lil’ Wayne / Dr. Dre Joint Album On The Way?

In a recent interview with MTV News, Lil’ Wayne reveals that he has recorded “90 songs” with legendary producer and artist, Dr. Dre.

“I’ve always worked with Dre. I’m not sure if you guys know how Dre works, Dre always send you a song, so I done probably did like 90 songs for Dre. You just never know which one he gonna put out.”

Ninety tracks is quite impressive! I wonder if these two would ever be down to putting together a joint album. What do you think? Check out the clip of Weezy on his Dr. Dre collabos below:

Hip-Hop Rumors: Hilarious Throwback Footage of Kanye West And Ma$e!

Okay, throwback footage like this only comes around once every few years. Channel Zero.com has dug up some old footage of Ma$e and his group Harlem World taken way back in 1998. The footage was shot at Jermaine Dupri’s Birthday Bash and towards the end, a very skinny, very geeked up producer named Kanye West makes an appearance, and to say that he looks hilarious is an understatement.

Yeezy is super excited to be there with the Harlem World group, and after shouting out Cardan, he talks about a track he produced for the group featuring Nas.  In the clip, Ma$e also chats about Brandy having a “crush” on him, and makes it clear that she is not his “girl”. This video is too funny. Skip to the 1:53 mark for a young Yeezy.

What is going on with Kanye’s grill??? Did you catch Huddy Combs in the video? R.I.P. Hud-6.

Hip-Hop Rumors: T.I. And Jay-Z Collabo Coming On Trouble Man? Pharrell Mad At Song Leak?

Soooooooo! T.I. is really doing the rounds this week and his album is over a month out on December 18! The Trouble Man Cometh! Anyway, I am hearing some exclusive rumors sh*t coming out of the Grand Hustle camp! Now, last night the whole industry seemingly heard the new T.I. album. I wasn’t there, but I got something they didn’t. While T.I. is in NYC, I heard he got Jay-Z on the phone and the pair are plotting a song that wasn’t included on the events of the week. Not sure if said song will actually be recorded this time out, but that’s what I am hearing.

Also, last night while Tip was letting people hear the album, the obligatory tweets went out. Remember, the music industry people have to remind you that they are cooler and have way more access than the rest of us. Anyway. That’s what happened and Pharrell didn’t like it. When he saw the tweets going out he made a call before the listening session was over demanding to know what’s going on! He saw the tweets and thought the song had leaked, from what I was told. I’m assuming he was corrected.

More later, but for now, here’s “Ball” featuring Lil Wayne.

Breeding Ground: The “Mayor of Cleveland” Ray Jr.

It’s one thing to get the public to like an artist’s music, and quite another to get them to love the actual man. Yet, Cleveland native Ray Jr. has seemingly excelled at both, and has been dubbed the unofficial “Mayor of Cleveland” by his music constituents. With a 2011 smash hit “Sloppy” and a 2012 remix featuring Big Sean and 2 Chainz, Ray has making waves both for his music as well as his deeds off wax. We checked in with the “Mayor” to hear more:

AllHipHop.com: You had one of the hottest songs out of the Midwest in ’11 with “Sloppy”, which featured 2 Chainz and Big Sean on the remix. Do you think the spotlight is finally returning to Cleveland?

Ray Jr.: I’m just trying to show the music scene here. From Avant, to Bone Thugz, and even Machine Gun Kelly, everyone that comes out of Cleveland comes out big.

AllHipHop.com: The term “New Cleveland” has been used recently. How do you define it?

Ray Jr.: I think the term came when Lebron left, because that really took the heart out of the city. You can’t really be mad that someone decides to leave, but it was like sports weren’t great anymore, so now let’s focus on the music.

AllHipHop.com: So, how do you feel you fit into this new movement?

Ray Jr.: I’m from East Cleveland, which is really poverty stricken; but its not about glorifying the money or the streets, I’m just trying to show the struggle that we have going on.

AllHipHop.com: You’ve gained enormous recognition for your philanthropy throughout the city. How did you earn the unofficial title of “Mayor of the City?”

Ray Jr.: The people gave it to me. I’m out in the streets giving back to them. I’m not a rapper. I’m a person that uses music as a way to get my message out and raise money to give back.

AllHipHop.com: You’ve become known for your big acts of charity in the city, feeding thousands during the holidays alone. Do you have plans on expanding these efforts outside of Cleveland?

Ray Jr.: I actually do an annual food drive every Thanksgiving. This year, I’m making it bigger and going to other cities. You can not like a song, not like an artist, you can hate on me, but you have to respect the things that I do.

AllHipHop.com: You mentioned using your music as a way to help your charity endeavors. How do you incorporate the two?

Ray Jr.: Shows, tour money, a percentage of the funds from these are taken out and used for my work in the community. You can’t help or clothe everybody, but being able to say I helped feed a family is better than hearing my song on the radio or in the club to me. I make music work for me. For example, it brings groupies. Instead of having them on us, why not have them come help out at an event?

AllHipHop.com: Your new release,  Welcome to Legit Paper, is already creating a buzz for your potent portrayal into your city. What’s your next move?

Ray Jr.: I’m actually going to add a few more songs to it and re-release it. Coming from where I’m from, we’ve struggled, and I like to put that in my music. But I will be adding a few party songs.

Already on many people’s radar, Ray seems destined to make his mark in one way or another. Be it with music, or by reaching out to touch directly through philanthropy. Be on the lookout for this man with a plan.

RZA Releases “The Man With the Iron Fists” Soundtrack

(AllHipHop News) Wu-Tang veteran RZA has released the soundtrack to his highly anticipated movie “The Man With the Iron Fists.”

RZA directed the movie and executive produced the soundtrack to the film, which features guess like Kanye West, the Wu-Tang Clan, the Black Keys, Pusha-T, Talib Kweli, Freddie Gibbs, Kool G. Rap and others.

“I spent 150 days in China [shooting the movie] so I became very very homesick and very lonely,” RZA told AllHipHop.com. “I basically had to lose myself in work. I had no girlfriend and no communication. I spent 12-18 hours working and all that work went into this film,” said RZA.

RZA said likened “The Man With the Iron Fists” to Wu-Tang Clan’s classic debut, Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). If all goes well on opening day, RZA will continue to pursue a career as one of Hollywood’s top directors.

“If it goes according to my plan, as it does sometimes – yeah I will definitely be directing more films,” RZA told AllHipHop.com. “This to me is like Enter the 36 Chambers – the first. That means I still have Tical, I still got Cuban Linx, I still Got Supreme Clientele, I still got Return To The 36 Chambers, Liquid Swords, I still have that creativity in me, but in a film way.”

“The Man With the Iron Fists” movie will hit theaters on November 2 and stars RZA, Russell Crowe, Lucy Liu and others.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Who Swooped In And Snatched Nicki Minaj’s Pepsi Deal?

It looks like Mariah Carey isn’t the only person Nicki Minaj has p*ssed off lately. Rumor has it that the folks over at Pepsi Corporate have allegedly decided to pull the plug on the Nicki Minaj Pepsi ad campaign that launched last year. Since that time, the rapper/singer has signed a deal to become a judge on “American Idol”, which is sponsored by their biggest competitor, Coca-Cola. So, although Nicki is a Pepsi girl, part of her American Idol deal contractually binds her to drink from a Coca-Cola cup during the show. That’s a big no-no for Pepsi, who was dead set against her taking the judging gig in the first place.

Pepsi reportedly wants that old thing back and has recruited Beyonce to star in a new Pepsi ad that will run during the Super Bowl. Photos from the commercial shoot have leaked online, and they clearly show Beyonce back at that familiar Pepsi vending machine….just like her previous commercial with them in 2002. Check it below:

Jay-Z’s better half looks to be styled in ’50s attire, in what is sure to be an epic commercial. Bey is also going to be performing at the halftime show, so expect Jigga and Blue Ivy to be in the building. Who do you think is going to make it to the Super Bowl this year?

Hip-Hop Rumors: Was This Tupac’s Last Song Recorded Before His Death?

There is a Tupac track entitled “Let’s Get It On” that is circulating the ‘net claiming to be the final recording before his death. The song was allegedly written about Mike Tyson, who Tupac name drops at the end of the song, and was allegedly recorded on 9/5/96. Tupac died just a few days later on 9/13/96. We don’t know if this is legitimate, hence why it’s in the rumors section. Check out the track below:

Tupac and Mike Tyson were reportedly very close during the ’90s, with Tyson even saying that his biggest regret in life was “not smoking weed with Tupac.”  Tupac also recorded another track for Mike Tyson called “Road To Glory”. Tyson walked out to this song in his March 16, 1996 fight vs. Frank Bruno.  The sound quality’s not that great, but you can hear the beginning of the song pretty clearly.

Of all the things Mike Tyson can regret in his life – you know that whole rape thing, the jail thing, the biting the ear thing – his biggest regret is not smoking with ‘Pac. Crazy!
