Yo Gotti Announces Road To Riches Tour

(AllHipHop News) Memphis-based rapper Yo Gotti has announced a nationwide tour that will kick off this May.

The rapper is launching the “Road to Riches Tour,” which will roll through 30 different cities, with more dates to be announced.

The tour will kick off on May 3 in Atlanta and will hit major markets like New York (S#####s), Los Angeles (The Key Club), and Toads Place (Connecticut).

Special guests on the tour include Pitbull, who will make an appearance on May 5 with Yo Gotti in Memphis at the Beale Street Music Festival and Zed Zilla, who is the first artist signed to Yo Gotti’s CMG record label.

“‘For Road To Riches,’ we wanted to do venues in more intimate settings, more up close and personal with the fans,” Yo Gotti told AllHipHop.com. “We’ll be bringing out guests throughout, so people can expect lots of surprises. I don’t measure my success by the internet or by charts, I measure it by how I see people reacting in real life.”

In addition to the tour, Yo Gotti is working on a new mixtape titled CM7.

“We have a lot of big records
already, some good features,” says Yo Gotti. “I’m working on the mixtape and a new album at the same time. The sound is just getting bigger and bigger as far as the production and quality.”

Jermaine Dupri Debuts Internet Sensation, R&B Crooner Brandon Hines

Someone’s got their eyes focused on the internet, having started his own social network and even discovering talented singers via YouTube (Dondria), super producer Jermaine Dupri is now bringing internet sensation Brandon Hines to the spotlight. Does he stand above the rest? You bet.

Hines appeared on the scene in 2006 with his independent debut Love Music: Fallin in Fallin Out, and then continued to post webcam YouTube videos of himself doing covers. It was in 2009 when Hines posted his cover to Maxwell’s Grammy-award winning hit “Pretty Wings”, that it caught the attention of the world, earning over one million views on YouTube. In 2010, Brandon released his second mixtape In Search Of, and the project received over 500,000 downloads.

He opened up for Estelle, and toured with John Legend, and now is signed to Durpi’s label, So So Def Records. His brand new single “Yes You Are” is out now, and here’s a behind the scenes look at the visual, directed by Benny Boom. For access to downloads, check out his official website.

Questlove Talks Jay-Z Advice and the Supergroup with Amy Winehouse That Never Happened

(AllHipHop News) Many artists who achieve success on the level of fame, money, and chart-topping albums agree that the urge to stray from what brought them to the table can be a challenge.

However, Questlove credits his former Def Jam boss, Jay-Z, for keeping him and his group, The Roots, musically and artistically intact.

“(Jay-Z) didn’t want to be known as the bad guy that killed The Roots,” Questlove told the Associated Press (AP), while highlighting an ironic difference between himself and the man who signed The Roots. “I told Jay, ‘Like man, that would be nice to have all my records debut at No. 1 and stuff.’ But he’s like, ‘Yeah, but you’re just looking at that. I got to deal with beef with this cat and that cat. Every year, some rapper’s going to take a potshot and I got to take the gloves out the closet and start training.’ … [Jay-Z] sees me as an artist making my dream come true. Like, he wants to be seen as a true artist, not the richest guy in Hip-Hop. Meanwhile, I would like 13 zeros in my account.”

While a No. 1 album debut is a worthwhile goal, the objective may have been easier for Questlove to attain if Amy Winehouse had her way. Speaking with AP, Questlove confessed that the late songstress planned to build a supergroup consisting of him, Raphael Saadiq, and Mos Def. Winehouse’s shared love of music with Questlove opened the door for the pair to broaden their musical boundaries by exposing themselves to artists outside their preferred genres.

“She’s such a jazz snob. I couldn’t stand it, but I was obsessed with it because, once we exchanged information, she would always be on her computer sending me MP3s (like), ‘Listen to this.’ … We spent a lot of time on Skype talking about crazy ideas and she schooled me about Sarah Vaughan. I schooled her about J Dilla,” said Questlove, who noted what could have been possible if his friend were alive today.

“And she was like, ‘All right, we’re going to start a supergroup. You, me, Mos (Def), and Raphael Saadiq.’ I was like, ‘OK.’ And she assigned homework: ‘All right, study this record.’ … I really miss not having her here to school me on jazz; I thought I was a music snob, and I thought I had my doctorate in jazz, but no. There’s so much more I could have learned. She’s a teacher.”

Due to Winehouse’s untimely death at age 27, the supergroup didn’t become reality, but Questlove will still be among friends celebrating the music this summer at the upcoming “Roots Picnic.” Tickets are available now for the fifth annual event, which will take place June 2-3 at the festival pier at Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia, PA.

In addition to The Roots, performers will include Kid Cudi, De La Soul, Wale, Major Lazer, Diplo, St. Vincent, The Tune-Yards, Danny Brown, Shabazz Palaces, Moosh & Twist, Flosstradamus, Stretch Armstrong, The Hood Internet, Star Slinger, Mr. MFN Exquire, Kids These Days, Chill Moody, and DJ Diamond Kuts.

Hip-Hop Rumors: A Rumor Gets Cleared Up A$AP!

It looks like something has gone wrong in the rumors world swirling around SXSW. While it is apparently clear that A$AP Rocky does not care too much about the XXL Freshman Class, one thing that’s not as clear is what happened between A$AP and Machine Gun Kelly (MGK). For one, we heard they had a conversation with each other. But that’s about where it stops. Some that were around when this convo happened said it was intense. We don’t know.

One thing that needs clearing up is the notion that MGK somehow ran up on A$AP or vice-versa. That did NOT happen. Anyway….that’s it. No beef. Nothing.

A$AP Rocky did manage to come down to the AllHipHop Breeding Ground event at the VIBE House at SXSW. Everybody was glad to see him. Later in the night, Timbaland and Snoop rocked the house.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Charles Hamilton Releases J.Cole Diss Track

Charles Hamilton raced back from his Sonic religious retreat to drop a diss record toward J.Cole. In the track, Hamilton accuses J.Cole of dissing Jay-Z , insinuates that J.Cole doesn’t write his own rhymes and takes credit for setting up J.Cole’s deal at Roc Nation. In the track, Hamilton raps:

“I remember when I met you, you was dissin’ Jay / Sh*t bothered me anyway / It’s not that I didn’t like him, I just heard rumors / And I heard you was my junior / Throwin’ up the Roc sign / I assumed that you knew what it meant / Apparently, you didn’t / N*gga you was fishin, barely was livin’ / And I’m the one who put you in your new position / Just remember, n*gga.”

This is so left field. In 2010 Charles Hamilton called J.Cole “one of the best rappers of the 21st Century” in his blog, and now he’s coming for him in a track not so cleverly titled “J.Cole Diss”. I don’t understand it, man. I don’t even think Charles knows why he’s doing it.

Either way, check out the track below. Is it hot or not?

Hip-Hop Rumors: Jay-Z Shelving Jay Electronica Album For Lack of Singles

Last week, Jay Electronica tweeted that his album was completely done and had already been handed in to his label, Roc Nation. Well, according to Questlove of the Roots, Roc Nation boss Jay-Z doesn’t feel the album is complete because it “has no singles on it.”

“Jay, Shawn Carter, has the record and listens to it constantly and says it’s his favorite record of 2012. It has no singles on it though, but it’s his favorite record,” Quest explains.

Questlove also revealed that he’s been in rehearsals with Jay-Z and witnessed him having to go over his lyrics over and over again.

“Oh yeah, he needs his lyrics printed out…Well, cause Tariq told me that an MC can only really truly hold like maybe 30 songs in his head,” said Questlove.

Lil Wayne Hits SXSW With New Clothing line Trukfit

Lil’ Wayne took the opportunity to introduce pieces from his new clothing line Trukfit.

Trukfit is a new line that Lil’ Wayne launched in January, as his first foray into the world of fashion design.

Lil’ Wayne rocked the line during his showcase, as did other members of the Young Money roster.

Hip-Hop Rumors: MGK Confronts A$AP Rocky Over “Corny As F*ck” Comment?

Although we hear A$AP Rocky initially refused XXL’s 2012 Freshman cover, in an interview with FUSE that was released this morning, A$AP seemed a little aggy about not being on the cover and even went as far as calling a few of the cover artists out as “corny as f*ck”.

“Personally, I’ma speak my mind, I think a lot of the motherf-ckers on the list are corny as f-ck. Shout out to Danny Brown. I think a few people on there are eligible for it and I think that they deserve to be on that cover.”

Peep the video below:

Well, it looks like MGK, who is on the cover, had a thing or two to say about A$AP’s comments. The two were seen earlier today at SXSW in Austin, Texas having an intense conversation.

Our insider tells us that while the two were not beefing, “A$AP was particularly expressive.”

Do you think A$AP was copping a plea, or was he manning up to what he said? These two have both expressed wanting to work with each other in the future. I hope this doesn’t ruin that.

Anyway, A$AP Rocky will be releasing his A$AP Mob album in May, followed by his debut in early July.

Non Hip-Hop Rumor: Is This the Man Who Sold Whitney Houston’s Casket Photo?

It looks like the mystery of who sold Whitney Houston’s casket photo is over, and all fingers are pointing to her confidant, Raffles Van Exel.

The Whigham Funeral Home in New Jersey where Whitney was buried is saying that one of their employees witnessed Van Exel take the photo. A source from Whigham’s says when they saw the photo on the cover of the Enquirer, they told the Houston’s that it was Van Exel and, “They didn’t do anything ab0ut it.”

“They’re protecting him. How come they haven’t gotten him out of their circle?” said the source.

After doing some digging, we found that this Van Exel dude is one shady person. First of all, he has numerous alias including Raffles Benson and Raffles Dawson. He even pretended to be famous R&B singer George Benson’s (“Give Me the Night,” “Turn Your Love Around”) son and weaseled his way into his mansion, all the while allegedly stealing $25K in cash and then disappearing. Van Exel is a washed-up, wanna be singer who is a well-known Hollywood mooch. This guy even mooched off of Michael Jackson for a while! It’s incredible how he could get so close to these legends.

Van Exel  was the only non-family member who accompanied Whitney’s sister in law/manager and newly appointed executor Pat Houston in her car to Whitney’s memorial, funeral, and viewings. He even traveled with the Houston family on the private plane from Los Angeles to New Jersey.

This sounds a little shady to me. Especially because when Pat Houston was interviewed by Oprah, and she said she didn’t care who took the photo of Whitney in her coffin. How could she not care?! Maybe she doesn’t care, because she already knew who it was and somehow has something to do with it. Could they have split the money? What’s even worse is that Pat was with Whitney in L.A. the week before she died and did nothing to stop her from drinking and taking prescription medication. How could you witness your best friend and sister-in-law going down a dangerous downward spiral and do nothing about it?  So many questions!

I wonder what Whitney’s mother, Cissy Houston, is going to do about all of this information that is now coming to light?

Hip-Hop Rumors: Did Snoop Dogg Jeopardize the Lives of His Fans?

Last December, Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa performed at the Wiltern Theater in Hollywood, California, and according to an employee of the theater, some shady and down right dangerous things took place to accommodate the habitual smokers. Here’s what the witness had to say:

“I was there when they were setting up the show and soundcheck. What tripped me out was when the fire Marshall turned off all the smoke detectors in the Wiltern Theater, because he knew Snoop Dogg had a reputation for smoking weed. I was shocked. I’m still shocked.“

The concert was attended by nearly 2,200 people. If a fire would have broken out at the theater, there would have been no warning since all of the smoke detectors were allegedly turned off.

Wow, if this is true, that was incredibly irresponsible of the Fire Marshal! I don’t think Snoop or Wiz would approve of this at all.
